  1. Hi, I'm trying to get out on the water as much as possible and the closest finger lake to me is Silver Lake. I haven't fished the lake enough to really know where to find them, especially in the weather where nights are in the 30s and day temps are 50-60s. This week I went out and the water temp ranged from 40-45* based on location on the lake. I saw fish (don't know if they were bass) in the center of the lake where its ~35 ft deep. Fish were suspended from 10ft to the bottom but I couldn't get any to bite. I want to go back next Wednesday with a game plan. Simply put, I don't know enough about breaking lakes down esp with cold water. Docks were not out yet, there were no metal structures to radiate heat down like dock poles. I stayed towards the south end of the lake as I am using a Kayak with trolling motor. I can make a run to the North, it's on my list of things to do, the lake isn't large. The weather for the next 10 days for context, thank you!
  2. It seems like I can get a decent gain by throwing another $30 at it, would that change your suggestions? Range up to $180? I can swing the Tatula 100, IMO I will be using it a lot so that's not an issue. Is the main difference the HyperDrive? Thanks @FrnkNsteen && @MN Fisher!
  3. I'm going to be putting together a spinner bait/chatter bait setup for next season and need to pick a reel. I already have a Daiwa Tatula CT and it's been great. The 13 Fishing G2 Inception causes that itch in brain and I wanted to find out for those who use it, how it is it? Thoughts on comparing both reels? I'm thinking a 6.x:1 ratio would be good?
  4. Joining FB won't happen, I wish they used forums instead of that privacy disaster of a site. You are spot on with the fix, it's the exact reply I just received from Old Towne ? I've attached the directions they sent me in case others find this thread.
  5. It's past 2 years since purchase so I believe it's out of warranty. I found the purchase paper work and it should be under warranty ? I went to the local Minn Kota ASC which was only 15 minutes away, I got lucky, however we couldn't find the motor on the minn kota site. We needed the parts diagram and parts list but no luck, we tried every number we could find and only found the motor itself. I'll have to call Minn Kota or Johnson Outdoors tomorrow and hopefully get some information. Does anyone know what model / part # would help us find the parts diagram? Thanks!
  6. While I was fishing this week, my Minn Kota got jammed and wouldn't spin anymore. I looked at the unit and found this piece sticking out and jamming it. I was able to pull it out but what is it? I need to replace it as I doubt it's a good thing, and the trolling motor didn't act as it should for the rest of the trip (spinning spinning spinning and then catching). I should have gotten a peddle unit and added a motor My finger is showing where it came out, assuming I remembered correctly. Also while lubing the shaft I found that the ball where my finger is pointed slides up and down. Not sure if that is suppose to happen? Maybe the part was to hold it still? The part Thanks!!
  7. Thanks! Hoping he catches a few, I have real worms and dried wax worms to try. Do you think any bass will be around docks this time of year? Weather has been pretty chilly, not sure if they would come up to the docks for warmth?
  8. Hi, My son is interested in fishing and I plan on taking him out on the kayak this weekend. Silver lake is the closest finger lake to us and I'm not trying to push the driving distance much farther yet. I was wondering if we will have much luck on Silver Lake fishing for any pan fish? I was thinking of using worms and a bobber with a split shot weight in between. Being that I don't normally fish for pan fish, is there an area on the lake that we should target? I think I can get him hooked if he can catch *something*. Thanks!
  9. Thanks, I'll have to roll the dice as it's my own chance this year. How does the high water affect the bass since the lake is pretty shallow?
  10. I'll be in Florida for the week of Sept 3rd for a conference and I have two days to tick off a bucket list item, fish the big O! I'm looking for recommendations for guide services for a single 8 hour day, I've also never hired a guide. No gear with be brought with me to FL, the guide will have to have the necessary gear. Who have you used in the past? What should I expect weather wise in FL at that time? Tips? Thanks!!
  11. Thanks! I assume I would need to buy the lake maps to load via the SD card from Garmin? If so, happen to know the price on them? I'll start searching now, the $699 price tag is hard to beat, so we will see how much the maps are. Edit: Maps seem to be $149.99
  12. Thanks - is the only difference between the two maps? The 93SV is out of stock. Edit: I noticed the 93SV comes with the GT54 transducer from Cabelas while from Garmin it comes with the GT56. The Garmin rep. told me the GT56 is the one to get, it's suppose to be better. Another option: $999 Lowrance Elite FS 9 Fish Finder/Chartplotter Combo - Active Imaging 3N1 https://www.basspro.com/shop/en/lowrance-elite-fs-9-fish-finder-chartplotter-combo I have to say, the way all the units are named/marketed/etc. is absurd. It does look like the HDS Live on sale is better than the Elite... Why does Cabela's include an older transducer when Garmin ships a newer one? Stuff like that is a shady way to save a few bucks and not tell the consumer.
  13. 1 - The "mini-ultrex" functionality is limited, it cannot pair with any unit. I didn't know that until after I purchased the yak. 2 - Good feedback, thank you 3 - yes, it included the transducer. Based on the part #010-02343-01 it should have the Ultra High-Def SideVü, ClearVü and Traditional CHIRP transducer. 4 - I am going to use an arm off the kayak for the transducer. It has a spot to mount underneath (not sure if that's good for both side and down scan?) but it's already a heavy yak and I don't want to risk damaging it.
  14. I'm looking to purchase a fish finder for my Autopilot 120 kayak, but I am very new to the electronics portion of fishing. My in-laws will be giving me a gift card to Cabela's, thus I limited my searching to that retailer. Requirements: 7-9" screen - leaning towards a 9" screen. Ability to add a second transducer for Live scope/imaging/etc < insert whatever the brand calls it > Price can't be insane, ideally < $1500 with transducer for side/down scan. The options I found below are on sale, which helps, as I still need more camping gear. Mostly targeting Bass in NY (finger lakes / Lake Erie). So far I found two options: Lowrance HDS LIVE 9 Fish Finder/Chartplotter with transducer $999 https://www.cabelas.com/shop/en/lowrance-hds-live-9-fish-finderchartplotter Garmin ECHOMAP UHD 94sv Fish Finder/Chartplotter Combo - Transducer $699 https://www.cabelas.com/shop/en/garmin-echomap-uhd-94sv-fish-finderchartplotter-combo My only experience was playing with the Garmin unit at a Bassmaster Elite Series event. I don't need the Live scope/imaging/etc this year, I need to learn the side/down scan first IMO. Thoughts? -Frank
  15. Thank you @bulldog1935!
