  1. Sorry to revive this older post, but how heavy of cover are we talking? I just got a 7’2 Heavy Expride paired with a Curado K and 65 lb braid I intended for jigs 3/8-3/4 oz and open water frogging. I was planning to get the 7’3 XH for frogging heavier cover (slop/weeds) and punching. I’m curious if I would get away using the heavy for frogging and find other uses for the XH.
  2. I saw a post that you were selling ALX rods, by chance, is the Expride replacing them? I was planning to dabble in some of ALX, even looked at Cashion just to support the US-based companies. What’s been your experience?
  3. I can get behind this ^ I have the TP1 black speed stick in a 7’ medium mod fast and it’s been great with a shakey head, traps, and smaller keitechs, great multi-purpose rod. I wouldn’t be selling mine if I didn’t have so much overlap already.
  4. Nice. Yeah the bantam is one I want to eventually get. I am still in the process of filling holes in my line up and after I get a frog rod I’ll be looking to get another jig rod. I’ll definitely be taking a hard look at the Zodias. But more than likely I think I’ll try and get an OrochiXX rod or another Expride.
  5. Out of curiosity, why are you choosing the bantam mgl? Have you found one at a good/reduced price or on sale? couple reasons I ask: 1. I have not used one yet, I have only gotten up to the chronarch mgl and the bantam is one I’ve been looking at but never committed to yet. 2. IMO, I would splurge a little more on the rod and set myself up to increased sensitivity and detect more bites and downgrade to a chronarch or curado level. To me, saving at least 100 on the reel to put into a rod would make for a better fishing experience.
  6. I use a 7’2 Expride for Texas rigs If OrochiXX ever restock I am looking to get the pitch perfect for 3/8-1/2 jigs. That’s also a 7’2 rod
  7. What is KTP?
  8. Do you happen to know the price, the webpage says call to order, but I like the way the reel seat looks here compared to the shiny plasticky looking Tatula. Never mind, after a quick google search I found out, I just need to see if there is any in stock, I think I might go this route and slap a curado k on it (I only have Shimano reels)
  9. Thanks I’ll take another look at those, I almost got the e6x cranking rod and ended up with the Dobyns Kaden 735cb and wish I would’ve went the e6x route. For heavy rod/ frog rod I’m looking at the 7-3 XH expride, 7-4 H Tatula. Would bumping up to 7-6 give me a little more of a softer tip for that type of fishing? Would it double as a flipping stick? (I was also looking at daiwas kage but they don’t look to be in stock)
  10. That’s great feedback, a frog rod is definitely something that is missing from my current lineup. What kind of action makes a good frog rod?
  11. Hmmm, that’s unfortunate. I usually don’t have to wait till my birthday for that @Born 2 fishwhere would one find these Kage rods? This is line is new to me.
  12. So with the birthday coming up next month, the wifey gave me the green light for a new rod. Since I only recently got into fishing (August 2020), I would love to get SME feedback on what holes I could fill given my sparse current setups and what I’ve been looking into. I’m trying to prevent overlap. Current lineup: 6-8 Medium Fast Daiwa Tatula (cork) Spinning - Ned rig, wacky rig, neko, finesse swimbaits (1/4 or less). 7 Med. Mod fast Lews TP1 black Casting - shaky head, finesse swimbaits (1/4 oz - 3/8), traps 7 MH fast Dobyns Sierra 703c Casting - finesse swimbaits, traps, 1.5 squarebills and smaller, plopper 90, T rig (1/4 oz or less), senko. This seems to overlap the lews and I am considering selling the lews combo I have. 7-2 MH MFast Shimano Expride Casting - Texas Rig (1/4 to 1/2), swim jig, chatterbait, paddletails up to 1/2 7-3 MH Mod Dobyns Kaden 735cb - bought initially for shallow squarebill up to 1.5, but seems like it’s too much rod and won’t load up. Strongly considering selling this one since the Sierra handles the squarebills I plan to use, still holding on to it in case I start getting into bigger cranks like 2.5 and up to 3xd. What I am looking at: 7-2 MH expride glass for chatterbaits, traps, topwater 7-1 MH Tatula (cork) just to add another Tatula. I am just not a fan of the silver surfer color scheme of the elites. 7 M Reg Tatula (cork) for the cranks I had intended to use the Kaden for 7-5 H Zodias (new) for frogging and light flipping/pitching ALX toad face or deputy (I like the idea of a USA made, but no current sales on kistler) What holes am I looking at here? As mentioned, I like the idea of getting a USA made rod like ALX, Kistler, Cashion, St Coix. But I haven’t been fishing for a year and haven’t had the chance to experiment with the different brands out there, I also get that blasted FOMO. I want to like Dobyns, but I’m starting to think paying a higher price for a warranty won’t justify a real quality rod that Shimano and daiwa are capable of putting out. I love my expride and only have a Tatula in spinning, but enough about that, I can clarify more later. so, what are your thoughts??
  13. I would take that with a grain of salt, still see my order pending and ordered 3/16 with shipping estimated for 3/23. I fear it’ll get worse ?
  14. Personally I would go with the mgl spool if your goal is to either get away with throwing lighter jigs like 1/4 or 5/16, or to cut the cost of the reel. I think it’d be redundant for the former considering the rod, but for the latter the mgl spool should cast very easily. I run a curado mgl on a Dobyns Sierra 703c for senkos and finesse swimbaits and it’s butter, it casts like a dream for me. I also have the chronarch mgl coming in soon for more line capacity. So that might be something else to consider is if you’re trying to maximize your distance, you’ll be better off with curado k and the 200 size spool. If distance isn’t an issue try out the Slx mgl. But overall, I like the curado K for that specific rod (pitch perfect). If the Orochi xx ever restocks, I plan to try and get the Tour Versatile for sparse cover jigging, on that rod I would probably go with curado mgl or chronarch mgl.
  15. I have the curado mgl 70and absolutely love fishing with it for lighter 3/16 jig head and swimbaits. I have a chronarch mgl on the way and will be putting that on my 7’2 mh expride for heavier jig head and swimbaits. Thinking about using it on the Dobyns kaden 735cb as well. I decided to get the chronarch mostly to test out how the bigger spool comes into play. I am expecting to make longer/easier casts with the added line capacity and maintain the ease of using lighter lures.
