  1. It has actually happened to me a few times. I realized fixing the bird nest was leaving the worm there waiting like I should have been. So it made me a better fisherman.
  2. Like their kids grades? Color of the lawn? Money donated? Money made? Hot dogs eaten? Beers drunk? My personal fav: the people that just have to accelerate faster than you at a light. What?!?!!
  3. Also better equips you to see the conditions that will cause it before you cast. But it doesn’t prevent them.
  4. I just can’t imagine doing it now with a surgeon generals warning and such taking up half the box for any reason other than because someone told you not to. So here you go: DON’T run your car off the road and rid us of stupidity. (Or frankly the ridiculous hospital bills that you are leaving.)
  5. I have 6 spinning rigs and 4 BCs. As a bank fisherman my success has more to do with finding a decent spot than which rig I’m using. Rod length also has a huge impact and not just for trees. Trying to work a jerk bait (this I only do Bc) when you’re standing in shin-deep water that is rolling at you is a rather tedious experience. Flipping (also only Bc, not fast enough on my spinning to catch the line) to cover when you’re surrounded by grass and bushes can be frustrating, or standing shin-deep in water that’s rolling at you. But you do you man. The setup matters less than the person fishing IMO.
  6. Yeah the kayaking was insane. Looked fun though. I like watching the Olympics. It’s fun to see people dedicated to their craft.
  7. I have a shimano slx. It was clearance at academy for $80. That’s my most expensive reel. IMO, if you think something is worth it…it is. Who cares what others think? I’m also not in a financial position to tie up $500 in a fishing combo my son will probably break. But it doesn’t mean it’s not worth it to others. To each their own.
  8. Yeah that’s my point. I think this will be totally unsustainable to the detriment of athletes and fans alike. And probably echo up into pros. Kid: What’s the base NFL salary? Lol, I made more than that in “college.”
  9. This. For me the murkier the water the more noise/thump I do. Color is my last thought when I can’t see my boot 3” in. I just use the same colors I always do.
  10. I think getting paid to go to college for a sport is the complete opposite of what college is supposed to be. Remember, those facilities all those other losers use are paid for by…those losers there for actual college. And when push comes to shove the player is gonna go with their money. No loyalty to school. No sense of responsibility. Just entitlement Pure and simple. Don’t believe me? Watch what happens if a conference is stupid enough to say their players can’t get paid for name and likeness. Lol. They don’t play for anyone but themselves. “I’m gonna get mine.” This will prove it. I agree that the next 10 years will change sports more than the previous 50 or even 100. And it will be gross.
  11. All this at the same time Saban said his QB is approaching 7 figures on name and likeness…and he hasn’t even played yet.
  12. Ditto. Although if you’re struggling with palomar, I’d just go uni. No double wrap to worry about.
  13. Roland Martin has a video on knots and somewhere shows that the Palomar is stronger (cinches tighter) with braid than mono/floro. But he even says it’s not the strongest knot, it’s just simple. It also wastes a ton of line to get it tied on larger lures. I use it on my hooks before worm is on, but I’m inclined to agree with him. I started using the trilene knot on most everything else so I could still have a double wrap but it’s easier to tie on bigger lures.
  14. Was in academy today and they had a bunch of lures/plastics clearances at heavy discounts. Googan 8”worms for $4, 6th sense worms for $3, some H2O big pre riggedswimbait 3 packs for $2, etc. Not sure if it’s local but some of the stuff was 50-60% off. The Googan stuff was the cheapest I’ve ever seen. Cheap enough for me to finally try.
  15. Same. I also t rig it and pull it through the less dense stuff. Always gets a reaction.
  16. I like paddle tail zoom super fluke on my buzz baits. Bulky but durable. I use it on spinners and swim it t rigged weighted and unweighted as well. Just a great all around plastic at an affordable price. I only use white (pearl I think.) I have a friend that always uses trailer hooks on buzz/spinner baits. Never throws without. The trailer he can do with or without.
  17. I like light little jigs with hair that I toss and pull across the surface or just under it. I pop em a little and try to look erratic. Berkeley minnows aren’t my favorite but they also get the job done in the same way.
  18. I don’t think braid backlashes worse either, and it seems easier to undo with far less damage to the line. I’ve had my lure and a good amount of mono set sail after undoing a backlash where I missed how the line had burned itself when locking down. A bird nest is a bird nest. The type of line won’t fix it if you are causing it.
  19. I hear ya. If I can stay near the truck, I take all of them. Now all of them is 6 if I take the frog. Much more manageable. And if I decide to walk a ways I can lock a couple in the cab.
  20. My wife helps me keep it under control. I’m not a hoarder really of anything, but she definitely makes me think twice when I have to submit a proposal and budget review followed by a PO in triplicate, notorized, for any purchase over $20. Actually she just wants an explanation and she doesn’t understand why 1 rod/reel doesn’t cover it even for me. I do want to replace my frog rod with a heavier one, but that won’t be an option until this one breaks. So I might help it at some point…
  21. I’ve seen dudes in golf shoes doing their boats. It was my guess that’s why.
  22. So I have 10 setups for bass. 5 from 15-20 years ago and 5 newer. Yesterday I realized and recognized that I was tired of worrying over what setups to take with me cause I’m strictly bank (also I’m just so tired of trying to throw light plastics on a md BC into 15-30mph wind ALL THE TIME)…so I changed up and cut down. I now have a 7’ md H BC for spinners and swimbaits and such, a 7’ md BC for cranks, a 7’md h spinning for lighter plastics/Carolina, a 6’6” md h BC for heavier jigs/Carolina, a 6’6” m spinning for shaky/drop shot/ned. And then a frog rod. And I am so pleased. My son now has 4 spinning setups (spinners, cranks, plastics, lighter plastics and such) so he can switch (which he does nearly every cast) to his hearts delight. And I still have our 2 very light panfish rigs. And I’m happy. Took my crank, spinner, and trig setups with me today and and it was glorious not feeling like I left things behind I could have needed. Those 3 setups covered everything I was doing. And it feels good to have slimmed down my gear. And I caught a fish. I must be crazy. But I’m satisfied. ?‍♂️
  23. Texas or wacky rigged yum dinger or Texas rigged zoom fluke. Always have one on a rod cause theyre just so versatile.
  24. All my BCs are lefty cause my right works the rod. There’s no accetpable reason to teach my left the same skill…only to go back and forth. Always struck me as a waste of my fishing time. My shimano slx was actually on sale because it was lefty.
  25. Summer is shorter anyway. I started school after Labor Day and got out around May 20. Now we start Aug 15-18 and go to almost June depending on calendar.
