  1. Where do you buy metal sheets to stamp out your own spoons? Looking for .01-.04" thick to replicate some JDM micro spoons (5/8" & 0.5-1g).
  2. I once read that soft plastics can degrade fishing line if stored in the same container, is this true? I'm having a hard time finding any articles that discuss this, so I'm curious to hear what you guys have to say.
  3. Any recommendations on fisheries management books? I would really like to see what the educators use to teach A&P, ecology, limnology, etc. The internet is a great way to access this info, but it would be fantastic to have access to scholarly publications with everything in one place. I suppose I should clarify that I am looking for an introductory book with general information on freshwater fish, if that sort of thing exists.
  4. Surprised nobody has said outback, pathfinder, 4runner. I should have assumed it would be mostly American/pickups!
  5. What are you driving? How do you transport your rods? Do you wish you had better mpg? Saw my friend's trailblazer, and I'm jealous of the headroom! It got me thinking, what's the best vehicle for fishing.
  6. I'd use it for anything in that range I could get away with. I've only ever used spinning gear for stuff that light, so I wanted to give it a try. Thank you very much, I'll take a look!
  7. Is there a baitcasting rod rated for 1/8-7/16oz lures besides the Cashion Icon? All the BFS stuff I've seen is rated for much lighter lures. My apologies for posting in the wrong forum, thanks for the move!
  8. Some interesting colors, which pattern is that on the right? FYI, I tried to rig my teeny torpedo in reverse without the propeller last night. It obviously didn't work, but I was curious to see what would happen. It runs the same forward as it does back, but it was worth a shot, and I guess I learned a little.
  9. What's the difference between the Rapala Ultralight and the Teeny Pop-R? They look to be similar, and weight is listed as 1/8 oz for both.
  10. Thanks for the follow up, I'll have to pick up a few and give them a try. I have a tiny torpedo, but it has not seen much action. I was thinking about rigging it backwards to see if I could get it to walk, but I have a feeling that won't quite work.
  11. Are the current Rapala minnows on the market the same, or would this be a different model? I have an old floater I found in a tree that I usually reserve for trout fishing, maybe I'll give it a shot.
  12. Thanks a lot guys! I've used BFE before, I guess I could try some JDM. I was really hoping to find something smaller, but I'll give it a shot. Thanks!
  13. Apparently they used to sell a 2-1/8" model, looks like it's discontinued. Thanks for the input!
  14. Looking for a 1-1/2 or 2" spook for my ultralight rod, does this exist? I thought about removing the hardware from a Heddon Teeny Torpedo and retrieving it in reverse but it's not exactly the same shape. Normally I would try to turn a few of my own, but I sold my lathe and it's getting picked up tomorrow. I am able to walk the dog with a Rebel Tiny Pop-R, but I wanted to see if I have more success with an actual spook. The Heddon Zara Puppy feels like it overloads my ultralight rod, so I wanted to stay at 1/8 oz on the dot. Thanks for your input!
  15. The rod was on sale, before I knew it I had a ton of flies, accessories, tying materials. After a trip down the rabbit hole and just wanted to reset. I could have kept it, but I was happier to make my money back, since I don't really make that much in the first place. Its a big box of stuff I don't have to move, worry about breaking/losing, or feel like I wasted my money on. I know a lot of anglers learn in waves and cycles, but I felt it was the best idea at the time. Who knows, maybe after I have kids and have time to myself I'll circle back.
  16. Will be moving in August, kind of glad I sold my 9 wt, because we are purging everything to make the move easy. I'm a bit of a minimalist, and I'm much happier with a couple of spinning rods, even if fly fishing the surf is a ton of fun.
  17. Been a year since OP, and while I have been focusing more on ultralight lately, I can say without a doubt you guys were all correct. I most definitely was not setting hard enough! I spend most of my time swinging lures for stripers and trout, so I'm used to the fish doing most of the work for me. I was also fly fishing a lot when I posted this, which is an entirely different set. Just wanted to say thanks to everyone for the helpful insight!
  18. Wanted to circle back in the event someone stumbled onto this thread. The Dobyns bait caster has been great since I've had it, no issues with its intended use. I do suck at baitcasting, so I've spent more time spin fishing with an ultralight rod this season with great results. I will be practicing in the daylight with the Dobyn's again, because I'd like to get after largemouths over the 17" mark and just pull them in quick. Lots of great responses to the OP, so I just wanted to say thanks.
  19. You know what, that's the one thing I never thought of.
  20. Ended up selling the 9 wt, wasn't getting enough use, plus I've been more successful spin fishing the surf anyway. Looks like I'll reserve the 4 wt for drinks, and use the other gear when I need the power. Thanks to all for the helpful replies!
  21. Turns out the amount of coverage was sufficient, I assumed it should be greater, but I have not had a problem with it anyway.
  22. Might try cutting the dividers on the one I have to see how it works out. I have actually sold off a lot of my stuff and have been limiting my selection to two containers in a waist pack. Thanks to all for the help!
  23. Thanks all for the replies, turns out the 703SF is kind of redundant, so I will be swapping that out for something lighter. I've actually had a lot of success dusting off my JDM ultralight rod that I had posted for sale on craigslist, so something a bit heavier would be a happy medium between the two. Thanks again to everyone for the helpful replies!
  24. Thank you, I'm going to take you up on that!
