  1. Last year I received a TW shipment that had a pack of berkley chigger craws that I didn't order. I asked them about it and they said to keep it on them, it was a nice little surprise. I had never added them to my cart before though.
  2. Thanks, do you think the Okuma heavy will be able to drive the hook through soft plastics that are rigged weedless, I.e. 6 inch magdraft, weedless hudd 68?
  3. Here's my question then, because I think I actually read you talking on this topic in another old thread I found where you recommended the okuma. Are you saying you don't think the Okuma is a good swimbait rod anymore or are you just saying the irod gen3 is much better? Also, if that rod starts at 3 ounces and I'm going to be throwing a lot of 2 ounce lures, how would that rod handle them?
  4. So, I'm trying to get into larger swimbaits. I already have a 300 size reel and because of a gift card I have to BPS, I can get an Okuma Guide Select in heavy or x heavy for around 100. This is my question, I plan to start with 2 to 4 ounces lures in both soft plastic and hard baits like glide baits. I've read some on this forum say there's no need to go past the Okuma heavy if that is the case as it's rated up to 6 but is actually comfortable maxing out at about 4 ounces. However, I will start with several weedless style lures as I fish weedy areas from the bank and I've read some on here say they had problems driving the hook home through a bait like the hudd 68 weedless with just the heavy rod, so, should I just get the x-heavy? I only ask cause I saw one guy say it's not wise to get get a rod rated up to 10 ounces if you're really only going to be throwing lures that are 2 to 4 ounces at max. Thanks for any help By the way, I understand that many people would get a different rod for treble hooks verses single jig hook style lures but I'm just starting so I'm trying to cover multiple bases decently rather than specialize for now
  5. Midway has Shimano SLX Casting, Spinning and their Glass casting rods on sale for $80 if anyone is interested.
  6. Do they actually list anywhere what is excluded? I got the email saying some exclusions apply but they made it seem like there were at least some rod and reels included?
  7. Oh, thank you for clarifying that. It's a strike king bitsy bug and it's a pretty thin hook. I'm using a medium heavy baitcaster. Could you share how I need to set my drag? I'm pretty new to bass fishing
  8. I'm going to try out a smaller profile jig with a 2/0 hook. I've read some say with smaller hooks you have to worry about bending the hook out and I want to avoid it. I have 30 lb test braid to a 12 lb mono leader on my baitcaster, is that too heavy for this kind of jig? I'll be bank fishing a pond for bass if that matters. Any help is appreciated
  9. Is that free shipping cause you're a member?
  10. Do you have any experience with their sales in the past? I've never purchased from them but I'm wondering if they do something like TW where they list a company as excluded from a sale but will give you the discount after you check out?
  11. So I was mainly thinking of a rod for a frog and some swimbaits but based on what you're saying, you think I could get a 7 ft mh/f and that would handle what I'm talking about well (provided the swimbaits aren't over the weight limit of the rod)?
  12. If I understand you correctly, are you saying I can use my MHF Tatula Elite for frogging and be relatively ok? I know MHF is used for a ton of different applications but I've read and heard many people say you "need" a heavy powered rod for frogging This is really what I was trying to get at when I asked the question, but I guess I want to know how far does that go really? I have the money to spend 100 now on a heavy frog/swimbait rod but what will be the difference between a Dobyns/diawa/st. croix brand rod in that price range and say a Berkley H/F lightning rod I saw for 35 the other day at Cabelas. I don't want to sound naive (I know some things are faked and some people just don't know what they're reviewing) but it did have very good reviews online..
  13. Sweet, just bought a booyah the other day. A toadrunner though, can't wait till the spring!
  14. Good grief, nice, on what kind of frog? Let me guess, 6 to 7lbs?
  15. Ok yeah this is more of branching into new techniques. I've had no success with topwater fishing to this point. I will try it cause I bought some frogs but I'm still expecting my bread and butter to be the other things I've had the most success with thus far. I definitely won't be spending several hours frogging though I understand the reasoning for those who do and are good at it.
  16. Thanks, I hadn't thought about the warranty piece I see where you're coming from. Another question then. I can get a daiwa tatula Xt Heavy for about 20% off, do you think that's worth it for my purposes?
  17. Since I started bass fishing, the majority of my time has been with Texas rig senkos/other plastics and jigs, I'm branching out, I've never really frogged but I want to learn so this will admittedly be a rod I use less. In this situation, how much would it take me to get a quality heavy rod do you think? What else do you do with the heavy rod, just the traditional punch/ flip, bigger jigs, frog and swimbait?
  18. Thank you for the response, just for my understanding, when it comes to buying a more expensive heavy rod for frogging, is the difference going to be how it casts since I'm not talking about a feel type presentation?
  19. Thank you, I actually saw some of your posts in other threads about that rod, even if I don't go up to 2oz swimbaits (I'm just learning and trying new stuff, I've never actually used any that big) would that rod be worth it mainly for frogging and some swimbaits? If i can afford a 100 dollar rod, do you think the difference would be worth with it?
  20. Good Morning, I got into bass fishing last year and have really become addicted. I've done a lot of reading and video watching and finally decided to branch out into (what was for me) more expensive gear. I got a MHMF Falcon rod for 99 and a MHF daiwa tatula elite for 179 last year. I can't say I've noticed a massive difference from cheaper rods but they are fun to fish and I've caught fish with them. I give that context because I'm thinking of getting a heavy powered rod this year for frogging and some smaller (1-2 oz) swimbait fishing. (I do love to jig fish but my tatula elite is rated up to an ounce and I haven't fished heavier jigs than that thus far.) My question is, how much do I really need to spend to get a good quality Heavy rod? What I'm doing is not bottom contact stuff so would a Daiwa Aird-x heavy rod for 55 be sufficient or will I notice a big difference spending around a 100 for a heavy rod with those techniques? I have the money, I'm just trying to figure out if it's worth it after branching out into some more expensive gear? Thanks for any help!
