  1. I've caught a few on it... Only 1 with size. The "Whopper" must hypnotize little fish. ? What the fish sees ? what the fish gets ?
  2. I would say it depends on what rod and reel you're using. I like to use the lightest line I can get away with on a rod and reel set-up that will have multiple purposes. For a 7ft M/H casting rod I use 12lb Yo-Zuri hybrid. Not saying what you're doing is wrong, this set-up just works for me. Kenny Yi is right, trial and error will teach you what works for you and what doesn't.
  3. I use the "Wacky" quite a bit. Most times I'll cast out, let it sink, let it sit a short time. Lift a little, reel in a little. The main thing to successful hook ups with a wacky rig in my opinion is watching the line... Detecting a hit in slack line can be hard at first. A lot of times even with slack in your line, you can feel the initial tap. Watch for line tighting even just a little, a jerk then slack...etc. when in doubt, set the hook. If your late setting the hook, there is more of a chance the fish will throat it.
  4. If you do get a fish that has a hook in it's throat, as long as you can see the point or push the point through until it is exposed, you can cut your line a few inches above the hook( this allows you to prevent the fish from swallowing with it's reflex by using the line to keep it exposed) then grab the point with needle nose pliers (I use my Leatherman) and work it through the opposite way the barb is facing. You may have to re-grip the hook a couple of times as you pull it out. It can be done rather quickly. If it's totally buried and you can't do this, cut your line as close to the hook as you can and get the fish back in the water.
  5. ☝️This! In an age of video games and garbage television, what better gift can you give a young boy or girl? Take a kid hunting or fishing. Or just teach them about the outdoors and to enjoy nature.
  6. Got the skunk off my back yesterday! After fishing Sutton Lake Wednesday and getting skunked ( my buddy got two) I returned to pond fishing Thursday. They had just stocked a gazillion bluegills on Tuesday, so l figured I'd give it a try. Caught a lot of fish but a lot of them were dinky. Also, my old friend the Koi was back for a visit! He's about 2ft long and fat as butter.
  7. My first one was a cheap tiny plastic box... Now, I have a huge BPS bag that holds 12 3700's plus a lot of other gear.
  8. I wouldn't be proud of myself if I recorded some of my exploits.?
  9. Like others have said, my opinion is first and foremost to find the fish you have the best chance of catching based on your gear and skills. Then maybe it boils down to just changing color or how you present your bait. I always start with the bait I have the most confidence in for the conditions I'm fishing and go form there.
  10. Yep... Been there... Done that. Some days, I could cast in the middle of a football field and get hung up.
  11. Eagle Claw Trokar hooks. Recently switched over for all my wacky and drop-shot rigs. Great penetration and holding power.
  12. I hate when that happens ? always watch for Ninja trees!
  13. Fishing in a light to medium rain has been very productive for me. Especially, in on and off rain. Like others have said, I start with spinner baits and chatterbaits. I have caught a few on jerkbaits when the water temperature is cooler.
  14. Man! That's a mean looking mug!
  15. I Have L.E.O.'s in my family...it's becoming an even more thankless job. I'm glad someone still wants to do it!
  16. ☝️This. I don't know how many times I've caught bigger bass and found a large bluegill or small bass hanging in it's gullet, sometimes a bigger bait will work. You'd be surprised at how large a bait a small bass will hit.
  17. Welcome from N.C.
  18. My bad... I don't think the link is on this site. https://www.in-fisherman.com/editorial/bass-length-to-weight-conversion-chart/156649
  19. Could be 12... Long fish. Regardless, beautiful fish. He doesn't seem to worried about the record. The estimated weight of a 27"LMB on the In-Fisherman chart linked on this site(I believe) under "Tools" is 11.95lbs.
  20. I think gray would look good. Nice boat! Do a follow-up when you get it done.
  21. I love my Lucky Craft lures, but the Ratl-Trap has been one of my best year round producing lures. Also, Berkley has some good jerkbaits. The "Juke Shallow 100" is being used a lot and producing well. Plastics...I have a lot of Zoom stuff. As far as rods and reels, I have a mixed bag of mid-grade stuff, but I'm really liking my Dobyns/Shimano spinning set up.
  22. Two days of fishing ponds, loads of fish but only 3 above dink status! Jigs continue to be productive. Black and blue with red strands tipped with a Paca chunk. Water levels are real low in most ponds.
  23. Looks are definitely deceiving, I was thinking my scale was broken when I first got it years ago...seems my expert estimation skills weren't so expert! Every bass my Grandson catches is 5lbs... He says so?
  24. Right there with ya... Many a times I've had to turn back. ??
  25. Nice! She rocks... Anything by Merle or the "Possum"
