  1. You should try it once and report back. I come out of the world of snowmobile, jet ski, and atv racing. All of those powersports share one commonality. The throttle is usually your friend. At some point it creates trouble, but until then it is the easiest way to make things smoother. Even my wife will tell you how much smoother our fishing boats have been when we throttle through. I wasn't sure on the Pro Bass how it would handle as I haven't driven one and there are exceptions. Our Malibu does worse and we have to go at the waves like you did. Exactly why I asked.
  2. Looking for a single manufacturer for all actions isnt logical. Pick what you want for actions and power and then shop for the right rod. Brand loyalty is a waste of $$
  3. Exactly. Super easy to filet boneless and you can never have enough homemade stock
  4. Mounds aren't the problem, it washes away the sand at the end of the concrete. That was a really early on learning experience for me. My buddy backed my trailer in so I would float off WAY too far. Needless to say the trailer tires went off the concrete and the trailer dropped a foot onto the cement while the tires were off the ground. Getting into 45F water to lift the trailer up SUCKED.
  5. Ignore that. It is EASY to train your hand to reel, hard to train it to cast. What arm do you cast with? Whichever it is buy the reel with the handle on the other side. In reality I would suggest used as well, but wouldn't start with a BM. A better used reel that is saleable later when he learns what he likes makes sense. As for a spincaster, I will be a bit more harsh and direct than the rest here. They have no place in fishing every IMO. They suck at casting, their drag isn't worth a crap, and they make a mess with line. If you want "easy" just use spinning. Spin casting is a terrible abomination.
  6. Used to use Spiderwire &/or Fireline until I tried PowerPro about 12-15 years ago. That killed me ever buying Spiderwire or Fireline again. I've never tried their mono, but there braid was awful for break offs, backlashes, and castability compared to PP.
  7. In a stocking cap I get mistaken for Aaron Rodgers somewhat regularly.
  8. I haven't used the X, but have the same SC5 blank kicked out to 7'10" and it might be my favorite rod. I primarily use it for fishing jigs and spinner baits, but it is a killer all around rod.
  9. Wet cell or lithium. AGM's are way overpriced now for their performance.
  10. I went out Fri for a couple hours after work. Found a bucketful of dinks. 2 nice crappies...which I forgot to let go until we got to the launch and one strange looking crappie.
  11. X2
  12. I was just looking for a garage camera solution that I can see in the car. Preferably Android Auto compatible so it can be in the dash of the Jeep. Interested in any recommendations. Love the digital transformation. I got sick of the stock Cadillac nonsense and put a windows computer with touchscreen in my dash.
  13. That looks peaceful compared to a Saturday afternoon here on Tonka. Worst is when you have wind like that AND 50'ers throwing monster wakes in different directions. Did you try to take them a bit faster? My 521 was much better at waves like that when I put the hammer down a bit.
  14. I was more or less in the same boat, but everyone covered all the new stuff already. One positive is that your "greenies" are still one of the most reliable reels made. Focus on what you did before. Ie, the spot, depth and cover denote your lure choice and you are fine
  15. That was exactly me today. Got too shallow, but the trolling motor shimmy got me out.
  16. 17-20lb Big Game for learning. Do not spend more on line until you are thumb competent.
  17. Have 12lb fc on my crankbait rods and no others.
  18. Yes and use cheap mono for learning so you don't feel bad respooling when you mess up. Perfect use for Big Game
  19. Mine would cover both. The mechanical is $50/yr, lol. Already had 2 stern drives replaced. Buddy anchored my 30' Sundancer over some rocks and left the motors down. Both lower units were replaced. Need to be careful who you let use your stuff.
  20. Only if you hold your baitcaster in the wrong hand.
  21. You haven't met my neighbor.
  22. I will take accuracy over distance ANY day of the week.* Acuracy is best taught by you doing all the work. Also achieved that way. That being said, I bought my first DC reel. Putting it on my spinnerbait rod. Hoping it saves the occasionally oh expletive when throwing in the wind. One thing to be capable with your finger in a normal cast, but in gusting wind with light or sail like baits good luck. *except today. Today I want that one long cast that is out of reach of everyone including me.
  23. I ordered some hot dog roasters from Scheels on a Monday morning and they came on Tuesday. Big fan of buying at Scheels as I grew up hanging out with one of them.
  24. Which is crazy because the big ones don't eat well. Little ones are great OUT OF COLD water.
