I don't pay very much attention to my gear ratios since I'm kind of a beginner-intermediate, but like others have said, I would buy the 8.1:1, especially if you are gonna use lipless cranks.

I prefer cork handles because I feel that they just feel better on my hands, but EVA isn't too uncomfortable for me.

I haven't caught a steelhead yet in Ludington. But I did catch some Brown Trout in January where I live in Southern Michigan!

I wish that my high school started a bass club, but there isn't enough people that I know of that like bass fishing to make it happen. If only it existed!

That is a really big fish! I'll bet that there has to be at least one that big around my area, especially since there are master angler reports for bass from around here.

I have been bass fishing a little bit, but after January 31st, I realized that in winter, the Brown Trout still bite! Now Spring, Summer, and Early Fall are for Bass, and Late Fall/Winter/Early Spring are for Trout. Winter Bass fishing in Michigan isn't too good for me. And no, I didn't get to ice fish .

I slay the Brown Trout in my creek with this lure! Sadly I've never caught a Brook Trout since I am too far south to catch one, but I'm guessing that if you try a fly, it may work. Just buy a clear bobber and tie a fly on, it may work. You never know. With the bobber, you don't need a fly-fishing pole.

Once, I was fishing a Jerkbait for bass around 2 years ago. The guy right next to me was fishing a bluegill head on a pretty small rod. He hooked something big, but since his line was pretty small, it broke off. About 10 minutes later, I felt my Jerkbait hook something big. I reeled it in, and I saw my Jerkbait snagged the guy's line, and attached to the line was a big snapping turtle! I got the guy's hook out of the turtle, and I luckily got my Jerkbait back. I have a picture, but I need to upload it to my computer tonight. I have only been fishing for about 4 years, so that is my craziest story.

In Michigan, I don't really see any pay-to-fish lakes around me. Michigan has some good public waters IMO. I am glad that the lakes around here are public because if they weren't, I would be pretty screwed!

Well, your luck must have followed me to my fishing spot, as I have caught my first Bass and first Bluegill of 2021!!!!! I will post the pictures later.

Fishing is hands-down my favorite thing. If I can fish, I will fish over pretty much anything else. Nothing comes close to fishing.

Finally the sub-zero Michigan temperatures have warmed to the low 40s and the Brown Trout have started to bite again!

Ok thanks everyone. I will check out the Maumee if I ever go to Ohio again, which I probably will, and I will try my Mom's friends house which I know has bullheads at least.

Hello. I want to catch my first catfish ever, but I don't know anywhere by me to catch a catfish. I have the rod and reel, I just need a spot near me to catch my first catfish. Is their anyone that lives by or visits by Portage, MI? If you have any spots, let me know. Thanks!

This lake is kind of far, and I am not a local, but when I visit my Great Aunt, I always like to fish Lake Maxincuckee by Culver, Indiana. I've caught some big bass there, one over 3 pounds! I've seen someone there catch a 5-6 pounder on Lake Maxincuckee from shore, so if you can make it, I would give it a shot. Some of the lake is private property though, so I would watch out. It is in Marshall county, so Idk if it is close to you

I caught this big brown trout yesterday on the Portage Creek. New pb, actually! Was released alive and well.

I will in the future, but for now, I'll just use my Dad's kayak
