  1. I'm old enough to remember when Johnny Carson had black air. One of the best shows on TV, always funny but absolutely hilarious at times such as that clip. Carson was must watch TV. If you made it on the Carson your career took off. I swear I can not understand what Robin Williams is saying 3/4 of the time but I laugh anyway. Imagine what he'd be like if he had three cups of espresso before doing a show... or maybe he did. Can a guy like that even unwind? There's not much on TV today that can even come close the the humor and characters of the past. Saturday Night Live ~ once a fairly funny show (a long time ago) is now mostly a waste of time. Late Night nowadays, woke junk ~ sad. Look up the clip, naw, I'll do it for you...
  2. A peacock kind of has the same problem as a kayakers with vertical rods. So this is how a peacock handles it when not in use. Your idea of laying the rods straight back might be the best option.
  3. Man these face piercings are getting out of hand....
  4. 99% alcohol ~ that would hurt more than yankin' the hook out! You might want to take a couple of hits before you use that on a wound.
  5. Grab some pliers and give a hardy jerk.... One of two things will happen, either the hook will come out or you'll turn yourself inside out. So far with me the hook comes out (all 3 times).
  6. Apparently there are two kinds if science nowadays.
  7. Rock bass it is then~ can't argue with science.
  8. I have two buddies I fish with at times, either me in their boat or them in mine or each in our own boat. We are all decent bass fisherman and about equal in our skill and knowledge so there is usually a little money involved. I have found it to be interesting that on one day one of us will out-fish the other two. The next day same thing only another will prevail and put a whoopin' on the other two. So that five bucks gets passed around. Then of course some days it's about equal. As my one buddy says~ "The sun don't shine on the same dogs behind, all the time." Now I know that is not exactly Shakespeare but does make an interesting point. One day I had a buddy in my boat in the back seat and we were fishing a gnarly shoreline with skinny dippers and wackys, skipping them up under bushes. We are equal on our casting ability but that day he's catching two or three to my one. So I finally said ~ "Hey, is it my turn to sit in the back now"? If I take someone fishing who is a not experienced, I act more as a guide and try to put them on fish (I'm taking THEM fishing). I fish over 200 days a year so I'll get my time in another day. I will say that one of my faults is that If I go fishing and don't catch anything in say, three hours in a lake I know... I'm gone cause it's just not happening. At 73 there is pain that goes along with any fishing trip and if I'm in pain I better be catching fish!
  9. Looks like a warmouth, sunfish family. Aggressive with a large mouth. I have found them to be a rare catch in most lakes, I only catch 2 or 3 a year. Good fighters for their size but so are bluegill. I always said that if a bluegill weighed 10 pounds you'd never get him in.
  10. I've broken several bones, including compound fractures~ eww! It takes the bones about 9 days before they start "knitting " back to together. So if you have a forearm cast on you should be able to cast... I mean lob a spinning rod in about 3 weeks, IF the cast allows you to get a grip and you don't do anything crazy with it ( like in into a fight with a cast on ~ been there done that). If you have a cast that curves around to the upper arm it's gonna be a little more difficult to "lob" and zombie like moves will have to be honed. Simple rule: If it hurts, don't do dat! ~ Good luck.
  11. I usually have 8 or 10 rods on deck depending on where I'm going. My main baits for summer bass in a lake are; 5" wacky with 1/8 oz bullet split-shot Spinner bait or chatter bait. 10 or 12" Texas rigged worm with 1/4 oz pegged weight Some sort of frog (conditions vary) Black whopper plopper 130 (sometimes big rats, snakes, or stick baits) jerk baits deep and shallow Six inch Bull Shad ~floating Five inch slow sink Bull shad (or other swimming/glide baits) Four inch "Boil Trigger" broke-back, top water. Ned rig with skirt or small jig. I don't know what to do with the other 2000 baits I have.
  12. Well you sure don't need a 110 yards of line to bring in a crappie or a bass either. Never had a bass run off more then 20' of line at one time but then again I usually have enough rod for the species. Seems like every decade they find a way to make line thinner ~ 10# diameter line now days is nothing like 10# diameter 20 years ago. The advantage of 8# or 6# over 4# is that if you get hung-up you can usually pull and straighten out the hook on small jig and get it back. My buddy caught an 11 pound bass a few years ago on a crappie jig while crappie fishing ~ he uses 8# and was glade he did. I'm kind of an overkill guy anyway...
  13. Well first of all there really is no "all purpose" rod and reel for the species spread you mentioned. The average crappie is about 10"long, whereas a channel cat can easily go 20 pounds and much bigger. Bass average a couple ponds You're going to be over powered for one and under powered for the other with one rod. You need at least two outfits ~three would be better. For the money the Pflueger President is a solid reel, I've owned about a dozen of them over the years and have no complaints with them. Pflueger all so has their own combos for about $80. The Ugly stick is a strong rod and again, for the money it's solid. I'd suggest you get a 2500 for pan fish and at least a 3500 for the bigger fish. The two combos will cost you about $160. Rods ~ I'd get 6.6 for the 2500 reel and 7" for the 3500. Run 4 to 8 pound test on the 2500 and 10 to 14 on the 3500 and an extra spool with 20# braid for the cats. It you're gonna cut a tree down ~ make sure you bring enough saw...
  14. I think it must be a Barbie boat. Ken already jumped out and swam to shore. Good thing there wasn't a couple of blonds in there, they would have climbed forward onto the bow.
  15. On days like that I'm thankful for that little dark cloud that follows me around.
  16. https://biggeekdad.com/2011/02/bob-hope-christmas/#.YFyJlTvjjC8.link He selfishly traveled the globe performing for millions of American troops stationed overseas through four wars. I "almost" got to go to one of his many shows he did in Vietnam while I was there on a government expense paid vacation in 1969-1970... But unfortunately duty called and I could not go. He was indeed a special man.
  17. You need to take in weight consideration as well: Normal ~ Up to 200# Stout ~ up to 300# Heavy duty ~ over 400#
  18. "Houston, We Have Lift Off"...
  19. Yeah, Mikey was a trip.
  20. In the early 70's I've had a 1969 Road Runner (same body style as the GTX). Also had a 1970 Dodge Charger R/T with a 440 with two fours. Both fun, sleek classic cars at the height of American muscle steel.

    1911

I've had several 1911's... Like you I wanted one so bad 40 years ago but at the time all I could afford (with bells and whistles) was a Mitchell Arms. After that I got a stock Colt built in 1927 and carried that for years. Finally broke down and bought a "Custom" Kimber Gold Match in stainless. Bought some Wilson Combat mags. Got a top of the line holster (worn one out). Never had a problem with it from day one. Been packing for over 40 years.
  22. I had a vasectomy... Helps if you take the cone off first....
  23. It wasn't the dog in our family that gave us problems... it was always Mikey
  24. Man I dunno, my daughter was in the 82nd Airborne. She had 24 jumps under her belt and this is what happened. I'm afraid your bass will probably only be able to make left hand turns.
