  1. Hello all, I have a chance to join my colleges bass fishing team later this year and want to build my skillset this summer before I go back to school. I haven't been able to fish off a bass boat many times and am wondering if there is someone around the San Jose, CA area or nearby who would be willing to take me out once or twice? Thank you
  2. Ive been wanting to get a travel rod for a while and seeing how my buddy broke my ST. Croix Premier in the car door yesterday and 6th sense has a 25% off sale, I think its a sign to pull the trigger. Is this rod worth it or a waste of money? If it isn't what's another good option around that price point?
  3. I finally learned that the only way to consistently catch fish where I live is to go fish the bay for leopard sharks lol. I live down in San Jose which makes it hard to try new spots when you have to fish by the tide. Does anyone have a few spots they'd be willing to give up? When is the best time to go? Not looking for big fish, just consistent action.
  4. I recently got a Penn Fierce 3 4000 and after 3 trips the bottom 1/16 of the spool is not any line on it. It looks like the spool itself doesnt raise up enough when you reel it in to lay the line on the whole spool. I read a few things about changing the washers below the spool and was wondering if anyone had any other input? -Used in saltwater for small leopard sharks -Plenty of grease -Super clean on the inside -Spooled with 50 pound braid(Put on by local fishing shop)
  5. I spent a whole lot of time making rage craws look just like the crayfish in our locals lakes, never got bit. Tried with scent to see if they smelled my hands, never got bit. Get back to a pb&j craw and it got smacked even thought it looks nothing like the crayfish we have.
  6. Went fishing with a friend today and somehow he managed to break the tip of one of my rods off. It broke about an inch off above the next eyelet and took about 2 inches off of the total length. I was planning on buying a new tip and gluing it on but was wondering if anyone had any other suggestions. The rod is a diawa presso and is 5'6 long.
  7. Thanks! What leader length do you find yourself using? Do you deadstick it or twitch it like fishing for bass?
  8. How do you drop shot for trout?
  9. I hooked some big bass on an ultra rod with a rig like that but toned down for trout. Might need to try it again.
  10. I fish from the shore. The spot I'm talking about has a spillway flowing into it and turns into a rocky/weedy beach that has 1 small spot to drain out and I'll walk the beach.
  11. There's this spot in one of the creeks I like to fish that has lots of rock and riff raff for about 5 feet and then drops down to a sandy bottom(I think). There's lots of bluegill and baby bass that hide in the rocks and I've seen bas from 1 to 5 pounds go in 6 inches of water to try and feed. The creek I fish is insanely pressured and probably doesn't go a day without getting fished. Ned rigs get stuck in the rocks and the bass will seem to turn around if they see something that's the tiniest bit unnatural. What are some other good options?
  12. Los gatos creek still has some water and some small bass in it around the percolation ponds. The ponds have some good ones in there but they are nearly impossible to catch.
  13. Getting a jig to the goods comes in a close second!
  14. Thanks for the replies everyone.
  15. Thank you! It looks like it is essentially a texas rig with the weight pegged on the opposite side as normal and left further away from the bait.
