The way you are feeling I'd suggest you just stop fishing. After a while the urge to go will get so strong you'll just be happy to be out on the water. Every late fall we put the boat away and spend all winter waiting for ice out. Come spring we don't always catch anything the first time or two out, but we're so happy to be on the water it doesn't matter much.

Thanks, I'm sure that wasn't prop wash. We made three passes over it 3-5 minutes apart. I've never seen anything like it.

I was out on the lake today and saw some things on my Garmin. I Don't know what they are. I took some pics. Any one have any idea what I was seeing? I made a couple of passes over it. Thanks Jim

Like many things in life, the few jerks can spoil it for the rest of us. I've seen fishermen casting near where kids are swimming, hooking docks , boats, etc. I can only assume that if I found property damage, got a hook in my foot, things of that nature, I'd be ticked too. My property is posted against hunting, because the first year after I put my house in, I woke up one morning to find a hunter with a high powered rifle leaning up against a tree 50 ft. from my house. Guy was an idiot! I can't tell who might be a safe, respectful person and who isn't, so nobody gets to hunt on my property. I'm guessing it's the same for some of these dock owners. They can't tell who the good guys are so they vent on everybody.

I was at work. Someone heard what was happening. We all went to the caf and watched it on TV. It was horrible and surreal at the same time. Where I worked / lived was on a major flight path between airports. Later on seeing the sky empty of any aircraft really drove home the enormity of that day. May we never forget.

Hi all, I'm sure this has to be listed somewhere, but darned if I can find it. Whopper Plopper sizes are listed in numbers 75, 90, 110, etc., but some places sell them just by listing their weight in oz. So does anyone know, or is there a list somewhere that says what the different size WP's are in oz.? Thanks Jim

My dad passed away. He was 90 years old. I still miss him terribly. Mentally he was still sharp as a tack, but his body was just worn out. His passing was not a surprise, he had been in hospice for a couple of weeks. I couldn't have asked for a better father. He was a WWII vet and always worked hard to support mom and us kids, but made time to take me fishing, hunting, all the things I liked to do. The last thing he did for me was to hang on and not pass until today, because yesterday was my birthday, and he made sure I would not always remember my birthday as the day he passed. To all of you whose parents are still here, I can not urge you enough to take every day with them as a blessing. To spend time with them, to talk to them about anything and everything. It was only after my dad passed that I realized all the little things about him and the family I never thought to ask. My wife and I will look at old family pictures, and I go to tell her about them and realize I just don't know. There are so many things about my dad I will never know, so many stories he could have told me that now are lost. Please! Please! take the time with your parents. Don't wait, don't put it off. This is one of my favorite pictures Even as a little kid I had the fishing bug. I was too young to "really" fish, but they gave me a toy fishing rod and dad would take me out around the lake so I could "fish". This was around 1956 and I still have memory's of it.

Well-- this is a bit of a bummer. Ordered an avid from my local sporting good store ( KTP). Just got a call from them, It's back ordered until around mid October. Called St. Croix and they confirmed it. ☹️

Local deer must know I don't hunt, and they feel safe. We see them in the yard almost daily. I've had deer munching acorns within 30 ft of me when I'm working in the yard, doesn't faze them in the least bit. Every Spring we see does and fauns around. Now the acorns are starting to drop and some land around my back steps. This one visited this A.M. Even after taking these pics with a flash in it's face it just walked around to the other side of the house and kept eating.

Up here most water is clear, visibility 8-18 ft. I could spend hours just drifting along staring in the water, watching all the life in it.

Looks like mine's big brother. They are great boats.

Hi All, Spinning rods-- I currently use a Shimano Compre as a pretty much general purpose rod. I use it to throw paddle tails, spinner baits, any thing along those lines. I am thinking of replacing it with a St. Croix Avid. I am thinking a Avid will allow me to cast a bit further, easier, be more responsive ? I would think a rod for double the $$$$ would have better performance. However, I am just guessing at this point because nobody locally carries them in stock, so I can't pick one up/try it out. A friend of mine has a couple of Avids I can look at, but they are different length, action, then what I am looking for, so I can tell if they feel comfortable, look nice, but can't compare apples to apples. So here's my question, given everything being the same, length, power, action, in your opinion, would a Avid be an improvement over a Compre? Or at least enough of an improvement to be worth the upgrade? I know common sense would dictate waiting until I can get my hands on just the one I want, doing my own comparison, but For a limited time I could order one for just about 1/2 price, so If I decide to get an Avid it needs to be now. UPDATE-- I was out on a clear body of water today and the SV was amazing. I was picking up rocks, logs, 50+ feet out. I can only assume the lake I was having SV issues on had so much silt, weeds, floating in the water column, it was distorting the image. Thanks again for the input everyone. Jim

I was out fishing a 200 acre pond today for LM & SM. I was pulling a ned rig up off a drop off when the line went heavy. Didn't feel like a very big fish but when I got him up it was quite a surprise. Turned out to be a land locked salmon! Every one says ned rigs catch a lot of fish but I didn't expect this. It was pretty thin but went 18" long. Not the best pic but I didn't intend to keep him so I handled him rather gently.

I would drop a dime on him in a heartbeat, however I don't work with him. If you turn him in how would that affect you at work? I've worked at places that can be kind of cliquey. I've seen guys that have got on the wrong side ( in my case the union ) and had a long miserable day at work. Only you can be the best judge of what to do in this case.

Here in southern Maine early fall had started. It's been cooler at night and the water temps have started to fall. however, starting yesterday and for the next couple of days summer is back. It's supposed to hit the mid 90's today and tomorrow. I was out in the yard last night and heard the peeper frogs in full chorus. That's only supposed to happen in the Spring. Poor little buggers won't know what hit them when the temps drop back down.

thanks for the input everyone. I'll give split grips another look.

I'm thinking of picking up a new spinning rod and it seems most rods now are split grip. I've tried them and don't really like them. They just don't feel right to me. However it seems the selection of full cork rods is kinda slim. So I'm wondering, do you get used to split grips? Or is it just more of a love hate thing. Thanks Jim

How much play does your draw bar have? I was surprised how much play mine had. It makes for a lot of noise.
