  1. Merry Christmas to everyone here from me and the Mrs.
  2. The best winter fishing tip I can offer is, push the snow aside before boring the hole in the ice.
  3. As said above, I really admire your talent for doing this.
  4. As always, a great video ?
  5. Far as I know you can use them at any time. From time to time the KTP has buy three lures get the forth for a penny sales. Use the gift card then and it's like a 40% off sale.
  6. First thing I showed my wife how to use was a Senko. To this day that or a swim Senko is all she uses, and more often than not she'll out fish me.
  7. Hi all, So, we are looking to have some work done on the house. We were looking at a local contractor, good rep, thirty years experience , that sort of thing. I gave him a call, had a good conversation, picked a time for him to stop by, talk about the job. Well, the time comes, and he doesn't show up. I called, got his voice mail, said good morning, gave my name, said Hey. we were supposed to meet, did something come up? Give me a call. This was yesterday morning, never did here back from him. Was talking to my wife about it and realized I was not too surprised. Seems the way things are today, people saying what they mean, and meaning what they say is more the exception than the rule. Have medical tests done, am told they will call with the results, they never do, you have to bug them to get answers, order something, am told it will be here on X date, it never is, so on and so on. Guess it kinda snuck up on me, but I realize that the way things are to day, having someone actually do what they say they are going do is what surprises me. When did this happen?
  8. Maybe one of the reasons I like fishing in bad weather is because if it gets too bad I can duck under cover. Sometimes having a multi species boat has it's advantages. ? Gets you out of the sun too!
  9. The last couple of years I've found overcast, drizzly days have been by far the best fishing for me. I'll fish days like this over sunny days anytime.
  10. The real advantage is, it gives us another option in choosing a rod. As you've read, some prefer split, some solid. We have the option to use what feels best to us.
  11. Hi all, We are thinking of getting new floors in our house. Vinyl sheet flooring ( used to be called linoleum?) seems an inexpensive way to go. To anyone who has gotten new vinyl sheet floors, are you glad you did, any issues, problems? I understand these have to be professionally installed but any floor we get would have to be, ( bad back on my part). Thanks Jim
  12. It's been talked about here from time to time, and it just works.
  13. I found this online. this is just a drop in the bucket to what I saw.
  14. My wife had both knees done, six weeks apart. She still out fishes me.
  15. Another southern Mainer here, welcome aboard.
  16. Thanks everyone, appreciate the info. Jim
  17. As of right now the current overnight temperature in our fishing area is down to 29 degrees. By this weekend it's supposed to be in the eighties. We are seeing 30 - 40 degree temp. swings between night and day. Couple that with the usual fall draw down of the lake levels, and it gets interesting figuring out fishing patterns. How do you handle major temp. swings ?
  18. I'm a retired tool and die maker / machinist. I've worked in prototype toolrooms and have built some cool things. I thought I was clever, I thought I was good , until yesterday. Besides fishing, I enjoy woodworking as a hobby. Most of the furniture in our house I've designed and built, and again, and thought I was pretty good, until yesterday. I was looking at Craig's list yesterday and came across an ad for selling a woodworking tool, a jig for making mortice and tenon joints. It was cheap money and just the next town over, so I called and arranged to go see it. I met the older gentlemen, and he took me into a rather large building, what I thought was his house. Turns out I think he slept there, but it was mostly filled with wonderful things. We walked into a room and I was struck by a couple of old iron woodworking machines, in particular a band saw with 36" diameter wheels. He said he had restored it ,and boy did he do a good job. He then took me into another room full of yet more amazing things. I was looking at a late 1800's early 1900's metal working tool room lathe, polished brass indexing gears, shiny metal, ornate cast legs and frame, covered in black lacquer paint. It looked museum quality but OMG there was another lathe sitting right next to it, it's twin. He explained that he had been asked to restore it ( he would not say for whom), so he stripped it down , repaired or rebuilt parts as needed, and this was the finished result. As for the second lathe, it's twin? He told me he loved the craftsmenship so much he wanted one of his own. He made patterns of every part of the original lathe. Had them cast, then he machined, fitted, polished, every piece to original specs, then assembled it. He showed me his woodworking shop, machine shop, things he had designed, built, invented. Room after room of such amazing things. As far as I can tell he just seems to have the time, funds, inclination, skill, and a quirky mind to make just about anything he desires. My mind is still spinning with the things I saw. As for the jig I came for? I bought it from him. He had bought, tried it, and built one of his own, his does things I never would have thought of. Jim
  19. We tow our 16 ft. boat with a Ford Edge ( with a factory tow package), tows like a dream, very nice ride.
  20. Way to busy on the water for us. Think we might head to the local DQ, pick up an ice cream , and watch the backed up traffic. People spending half their holiday getting into Maine, then turning around and spending the last half trying to get back home.
  21. I'm sure I saw you last Friday trolling past a rock pile I was fishing. My wife and I fish Mousam all the time. We're in a black Lund fury XL sport. Will stop and say hi next time we see you.
  22. I've fly fished off and on for 50 years, and have caught just about anything on a fly rod that you can catch on conventional tackle ( in this area) I have to say I've enjoyed salmon in fresh water and stripers in the ocean the most.
  23. My wife loves being out on the water, and yes, she will often out fish me.
