  1. Well, good news! As I said before, I took my wife and daughter back with me and they picked the Tatula CT 100. Today is my birthday and I woke up to a brand new Tatula SV TW 103! Very excited to try this thing out...
  2. Thanks to everyone for the replies. I took my wife and daughter back with me. My daughter pointed at a Tatula CT 100H, and said she liked the color better than the others. It’s a bluish gray color. The guy said it’s the new ones for 2021. It was $75 cheaper than the the SV. I ended up getting it, and a Tatula XT 7’1” medium heavy/fast rod. I got it home, put some line on it, set the tension/brakes, and took it outside to practice (I’m still new to baitcasters). I casted a few times with no sign of back lashing. I started throwing it aimlessly, just to see what would happen. A few times, I even casted it all the way across the yard, into the storage building without thumbing, trying to make it backlash. It never did! I have a Lew’s custom black (same price as this setup), and a Lew’s Mach crush. I’ve gotten pretty good at casting both of those, but I could never do that with either of those. I’m amazed by this setup already. I can only imagine how good the SV is if it’s better than this. Thanks again!
  3. Thanks! I’ll have to look into this Asian Portal. Also, do you have any experience with the Tatula CT? A little cheaper and seems to get good reviews...
  4. Hello, everyone. I'm in the market for a new baitcaster reel and rod. I've been looking at Daiwa Tatula SV TW 103HS for $199. The same store also has the faster one also (XS). They also have a Daiwa Tatula XT medium heavy rod for $89.99 (I'm not very familiar with these rods). Would this make a good all around combo? Are there better setups for this price? Thanks in advance.
  5. I didn’t know all this. Thanks again for all the tips!
  6. Way2slow, when I replace the bunk boards, I’ll cover them with that carpet. If I can’t find pressure treated, I’ll paint the bunk boards before putting the carpet on. We have a staple gun. Can I use that with stainless steel staples for fastening the carpet to the boards? If not, I’ll look for aluminum nails. I’ll keep the boards the same length and make sure they fall to the back. When I replace the rollers, I’ll adjust them as you described. I went ahead and slid the winch/stop bracket forward some because the boat was hanging off the back some. I’m not sure how to tell what percentage of the weight is on the tongue though? I’ll figure that part out. Thanks for all the advice, it’s very helpful!
  7. WRB, I’m gonna replace the boards and cover them with carpet. They are adjustable. There is some rust on the winch and the Jack, but no rusted out areas as far as I can tell. I already have new tires and wheels, just haven’t changed them yet. It’s definitely a tilt trailer. And I’m pretty sure the previous owner had the winch set too far from the front of the trailer, so a lot of the boat was hanging off the back of the trailer. I’ll try moving it forward some, so that the transom is supported by the bunk boards. When I change the wheels, I’ll check the bearings, but how do I check for spindle wear? Thanks for the tips!
  8. Way2slow, I was wrong. The 2 rollers closest to the rear of the trailer are adjustable. The other ones are not.
  9. I got mine in yesterday. It’s not the prettiest thing, but it feels WAY more sturdy. I did put the extension piece back on. Not sure if I should have, but it was on it before, so I put it back on. I’ll probably never run more than a trolling motor like the one that came with it...
  10. Slonezp, it is a tilt trailer. This is my first boat, so I wasn’t sure if someone had shortened the 2x4s, or if they’re supposed to be that way... Way2slow, I’ll have to look at it again, but I don’t think the rollers are adjustable (I could be wrong). The 2x4s are on brackets that can be adjusted up or down. Thanks.
  11. Hello everyone. I have this old Cox trailer. It has 3 keel rollers and a smaller (bow?) roller. It only has the 2 short 2x4’s in the back. Is this normal? I’m gonna replace the rollers, but I’m not sure that the 2x4s shouldn’t be longer. Picture below.
  12. Thanks, TNRiver46! I’m not sure if I should put that makeshift transom extender back in it or just leave it off... Good luck with yours.
  13. Hello, everyone. I recently purchased a 14’ aluminum jon boat and trailer. The boat needs painting and the wood on the transom was rotten. I’ve already removed the old transom and made a new one out of 2 pieces of plywood. I’ve coated the plywood with fiberglass resin and I’m allowing it to cure for a while (it’s been in the 30’s and 40’s this week). I want to lightly sand and paint the transom before putting it on the boat. What kind of primer and paint should I use to paint over the fiberglass resin on the wood? Also, the transom is 15 inches, but someone previously put a piece of aluminum on top of it to extend it to about 17 inches. Should I put that piece back on it, or leave it off? Most likely, I’ll never have more than a trolling motor on this boat. I’m adding a couple of photos. Thanks in advance for any replies.
