  1. Fantastic information here... thanks everyone!! I've taken a few of your suggestions and made some purchases already. I was hoping someone would take me up on that Rapala baitcaster I have listed in the flea market and trade me for some lures!! I've already spent my budget!!! FYI... I have used Mepps Syclops spoons before to great success... in fact not only them but Krocs and of course the Effzetts were my favorites... I just purchased the Effzetts below... spoons with slight bends to them work well up here... they gots the wiggle LOL!! As for leaders... usually 6" wire for me... black or silver...
  2. That's in Canadian dollars which is sitting at about a 28% exchange rate... I just looked on Amazon and a 2500 is $150CAD plus my 11% sales tax. I can't remember where I saw one for $135. I know the Fuego is $130 on Amazon but nothing in stock... pretty much nothing is in stock anywhere in Canada unless its 4000 or 5000's!! I picked it up... going to have a look at it... should be here by the weekend methinks!! I usually don't have anything that is over an ounce... possibly a spoon but if one is it won't be by much. I just ordered a few dozen lures... some of the ones that were suggested to me in another post I started I figure wrapping it with some 12-14lb Sufix would work well... hopefully it's like riding a bike and I don't end up with a mess LOL!!! FYI... haven't seen anything for Black Friday yet... everything is mostly gone to the ice fishing gear. I'm not in any hurry, I just want to narrow down my searches and focus on a couple models. This way I'm not all over the place this winter without a clue!!! Maybe I can get lucky and pick up a BG or Fuego for a $100 as well ?
  3. Thanks for that!! I still have not ruled it out. And newapti5 ... thanks for the suggestion of Amazon Warehouse... I checked this morning and found a Daiwa FGCT100XSL Fuego CT ... left-handed which is perfect... for $100 CAD... it's an 8.1:1 retrieve but I really don't think that'll be an issue???
  4. Pike, Walleye and Rainbows!! Just a note... I pay 11% sales tax here... so a Revros is $70 + taxes is $77... Fuego would be $154... any spare spools I can find is going to run me $40-$50 I'm just trying to figure out the best way... and maybe you are right Finessegenics ... maybe I should just go to one spinning and one casting?? I like Fenwick as well... have had the Eagle GT, HMX and HMG in the past... $75, $99 and $125 plus taxes locally. Maybe a couple Eagles and then I can pay around with the reel budget LOL!!
  5. All my fishing will be done from shore either the river or at a few local lakes... I use two different test of line... either two mono or a mono and braid. Granted I can buy two different reels but to put things in perspective a Revros will cost me $80.00 here in Canada so two is $160.00... if I get a spare spool I can still outfit the two tests I like using and put the remaining funds to better use. See what I mean?? I just edited to add this comment... I have nothing... I'm coming back to the sport so I'm in a rebuild. I'm trying to keep this rebuild under $500ish... so $100 each... spinning reel... spinning rod... casting reel... casting rod... tackle... that's my goal. I already spent $80 in lures yesterday that I don't even have storage for LOL!! I'm pretty sure I can grab some rods cheaper than $100 as I have lots of options here... unlike reels which is either Shimano or come from Pure Fishing. I really like Daiwa for a spinning reel. Casting reel I'm not limited to Daiwa as I've had Abu, Shimano, Quantum and Browning in the past. I welcome any help... thanks!!
  6. Remember I'm in Canada so there is about a 25-30% exchange... so $80US is $105CAD And if my reading is correct no new Daiwa's come with spare spools these days...
  7. Thanks A-Jay I used alot of Powerbait back in the day... totally agree!! Rattlin' cranks are good up here to and jigheads are a must!! And I have never caught anything here on spinnerbaits and inline spinners... I purchased a whole whack of custom spinnerbaits from the US... went out for a week with them and never caught one pike... I'm not sure of our pike around here ?
  8. I had an old Stadic back in the day and traded it off for Daiwa... I found casting Daiwa nicer but that said I liked the old Curado I had!! I'm trying to keep this rebuild under $500... so $100 each... spinning reel... spinning rod... casting reel... casting rod... tackle... that's my goal. I posted in the Rod\Reel section about a Daiwa Exceler I found for $100... trying to drum up some comments about it.
  9. OK... so other than it not being a current model and not being sealed... that's it?? I'm rebuilding so I'm looking for bang for the buck... the spare spool gives me a second option... AND which could potentially lead to me grabbing a baitcaster this spring as well... that's an added bonus to me!! I only have so much funds put aside LOL!!
  10. Love seeing the pics on catches ? And jigheads... pretty much a staple around here... thanks!! I have a really nice shopping list going... yesterday I picked up 20 spoons... DAM Effzett's which I used back in the day... and some soft baits... should be here in a few weeks... gives me time to find some storage... maybe Black Friday will be good to me up here LOL!! IF you guys have any comments on spinning reels or rods let me know... I used to fish all Daiwa 2500's and MH/F in multiple brands... mostly 12lb mono as well... Thanks!!
  11. There is also a Ninja BG, Procaster and Regal Xia for $85... Lots of what is called 16 and 17's... Joinus and Crest... and Mission's to on the 'bay... There is pretty much nothing available in Canada... even on Amazon most is out of stock...
  12. Thanks guys!! I really appreciate the input!! Other than the common spoons and half waves I was a little out of my element when I went looking at the local and all the "new to me" stuff hanging there LOL!! Back in the day my box was loaded with DAM Effzett's... those things were amazing up here!! They are non existent locally today.
  13. Better yet!! I really hope you enjoyed your time here!!
  14. I will be only shore fishing... no boat purchase in the foreseeable future lol!!
  15. Nice!!!
  16. Thanks!! Gotcha on the spoons and leaders... Going to have to look at plastics and spinnerbaits...
  17. That's pretty interesting!! Thanks!! Going to have to look closer at those!! FYI... my box is empty... in fact I have literally not even bought a box yet lol!!
  18. I have honestly never caught anything let alone a pike on an inline spinner lol!!
  19. I found this for $100... thinking it's a pretty decent deal coming with a second spool. Any reason why I should not go with it?? Daiwa is kinda hard to find at decent prices in Canada ... to put things in perspective these are the other models... Revros $70... Eliminator $110... BG $135... I appreciate the input!! Thanks!!
  20. Thanks for the reply!! At this point in time I'm rebuilding...everything!!... so the consensus was Sufix so I'll stick with that seeing it's a good value... I need to spread out my $500+ bucks as much as possible LOL ?
  21. Morning I found some 1000yd spools of Sufix Siege for just under 20 bucks shipped which is a pretty good price around here. Question... clear or smoke green with this line?? Thanks!!
  22. Hey people!! I would appreciate some help picking out some lures for pike. After a long hiatus I'll be back at it in the spring. I went looking around locally the other day and although I recognize a few items, there are alot of things I just couldn't find anymore especially some spoons that I used back in the day. So if anyone has their favourite lure of choice I would appreciate hearing about it!! Thanks!!
  23. I'm in a total rebuild state... right from the ground up... so a couple of spinning outfits and possibly a lefty casting. Tackle box and tackle... even line!! Going to be an expensive winter to get ready for spring LOL!! Started the other night with a local purchase of some spoons and a couple cranks ? Maybe some good deals will show up on black friday up here... sometimes Canadian sales follows their US counterparts.
  24. Well after doing a little bit of looking... Fenwick, Penn and Shakespeare all have spinning rods between 7ft and 8ft that can handle that lure weight. Personally I like Fenwick... back in the days when I was active, I fished their entire line and never had any issues... trout to walleye to pike all on the same rod was a normal outing. I think they should be pretty easy to find in your area if I can find them in my little neck of the woods LOL!!
  25. I'm glad I found this thread... I'm having the same issues as you TripleG although not as bad yet. I like the look of the Fastach Clip... I don't remember it being around back when I was fishing... just remember the regular snaps like the P-Line although up here they came from Falcon or Lindy.
