  1. Daiwa... gave up Shimano back then for Daiwa... you can't convince to ever switch back LOL!!
  2. I was a Fenwick fan back in the day so when I decided to come back after a long vacation I bought two Eagle's ...worked out to $45.00US ($60.00CAD) each. They look and feel amazing although I have to wait till spring now to see how they do on the water I do wish there were those Daiwa's locally to see how they compare... they get alot of good talk!!
  3. I think this is great!! I put my CT on an Eagle and I'm super pumped to try it this spring!! One more thing... not sure how many of you do but I value drag more than anything. My CT came in last week and I think it'll be very nice. My BG2500 is on it's way and I'm hoping it'll be every bit as good if not better than the Penn Battle 3 I had in my hands the other day... that reel felt awesome!! Like a finely crafted machine... it felt better in my hands than any higher priced Shimano's!! But like BrianMDTX said I'm also new coming back so what the heck do I know
  4. I'm in the reel camp... I enjoy a nice reel... that's usually where my money ends up going... followed by good line. As I've had more expensive rods in the past... a decent lower cost one still does the trick... but a really good reel is just such a pleasure to work with!!
  5. Very interesting!! So how often does this have to be changed?? Now we are talking about the 1x19 and not the 7x7 correct??
  6. Seriously?? So my knot is a Palomar... I can do that with this??
  7. Good to know.. thanks!! I looked at that AFW stuff but I'm not about to go making my own... those days are past for me lol!!
  8. I'm looking at Finn-tastic titanium leaders... you can get single or 7 strand... Good topic... let's see what comes back!!
  9. WOW!! And here I thought I had limited selection LOL!! Sorry man... I feel your pain!! The only two I can comment on is the St Croix and the Shimano... neither was any better than the Fenwick for double the price as they were up here... IMO ROFL!! My wife doesn't know what the bait monkey is but I think she's about to find out this winter
  10. $25 is what I think is the norm for postal shipping to Canada... I paid $22 for my BG2500 and $18 for some Ande. I was also quoted $21 for some lures. I refuse to shop anywhere that does not give the US Postal Service as an option. Couriers to Canada literally r$pe you with brokerage fees. I don't mind paying the duties and taxes but I've seen a $45.00 brokerage fee before on an item that wasn't even that in price (UPS I'm talking to you!!)
  11. I hear ya... in my parts... if it ain't Shimano or a Pure Fishing brand it's very difficult to find.
  12. Thanks everyone!! I want to give an update on my status... as stated I'm coming back with nothing and thanks to the replies on some threads I started I've come away so far with: Daiwa Fuego CT and BG2500 Fenwick Eagle spin and cast rods About three dozen lures... mostly spoons and soft baits with a couple cranks And settled on Ande for line Total is almost $500CAD ($380US) which is right where I wanted to be. Other than a couple odds and ends terminal tackle I'm pretty much ready for spring!! I appreciate all the help since joining this board... thank you again!!
  13. Perfect!! Thank you!! I ordered 3 sizes of Back Country and a 15lb of both this morning!! Almost all outfitted with the two rods I bought yesterday ?
  14. Thanks so much on the Ande info... appreciated!! I've been curious on that line since way back before I took my hiatus. So do you think the Tournament is more abrasive resistant than the Premium?? Or is that Back Country?? I kinda like the sound of Back Country LOL!!
  15. Nice!! Just out of curiosity what did you have for a comment on Ande??
  16. The only split grip 2 piece were pushing $200CAD and I really didn't pay too close attention to them.
  17. K... update... I bought two Fenwick Eagle rods at the local this morning!! Now remember, I'm darn near 20 years removed from this sport and alot apparently has happened in that time LOL!! In my day exposed blank handled rods were expensive... these were retail at $80CAD and I got them for $60CAD on sale which is about $45US!! Insane!! The quality IMO is fantastic!! I remember my old Loomis rod being like this not the old Fenwick's!! I went afterwards to Cabela's... they weren't on sale there... but I wanted to compare them to a couple of rods; St Croix Triumph was slightly heavier and had more of a moderate feel with a slower action. Ugly Stick Carbon actually really surprised me... it was $100CAD but no 2 piece. And of course the good old Berkley Lightning Rod which I had a few back in the day... retail was $55CAD and for that price I would have bought a dozen... every bit as good as what I remember for the price but 100% better in terms of quality. I'm going to watch them over the winter and grab one if they happen to go on sale just for giggles to do a comparison with the Eagle That's all I could really find in a 2 piece to compare to. The HMX and HMG were very nice for a tad more at retail but being only a 1 piece unit. Oh and nothing Shimano or Quantum excited me... overpriced compared to the others mentioned. Hope this helps... if you have any questions let me know... here are a few pics!! One more picture of the guides...
  18. I'm going to go look at some Fenwick's this morning... I'll post some comments later.
  19. I was actually looking for an answer on this to... maybe someone will chime in I would like comments on their mono as well.
  20. Hey Tom I went through some Shimano back 20 years ago and granted yes that was a long time ago but there was nothing back then that made me want to go away from Daiwa so I'd imagine today would be the same lol!! I'm really a fan of their spinning reels so if anything I'll grab another!! Baitcasters... I used alot of Abu rounds... wouldn't mind having one of them back again at some point in time. I think two to get back into the swing of things is a good start
  21. Well... as posted in the Black Friday thread: 20% Off Daiwa Products (Now) - https://www.americanlegacyfishing.com/holiday-promotions/black-friday-sale-2020.html Was able to order a BG2500 for $79US... after shipping and exchange it's $130CAD... no way I can get that here so I figured I'd bite the bullet ? I figure with that and the Fuego CT coming in this week I should be set for the spring!! Now just need a couple rods LOL!! Thanks again everyone for their input... sure was appreciated and it sure helped!!
  22. You are welcome!!
  23. I will... you bet ?
