  1. I thought about the transducer. I know guys that run FF with the transducer sitting a a wad of silicon glued inside their hulls. It never sees water. Dunno - just Food for thought. I thought about an ice chest full of cold water, but I already wired it into my kayak. Which involve crazy yoga moves. Removing it is difficult to stomach. What about the guys that mount them (transducers) to the trolling motor? They shut down between spots? Argh- this is too much. Haha. maybe a 10 hour fishing day is in order. I’ll pack a huge lunch. Hehe. Thank you everyone. Great forum.
  2. chirp will scroll by, but down-scan will be a black screen I imagine. Think I’ll burn an image on the screen? I feel my Nocqua battery is running down faster than the math indicates. But I didn’t do well in me EE class.
  3. Any public body of water. Shore fishing to boats. All open. I don’t know what it’s called, but it does sound interesting. ‘’that and those month long tournaments sound like fun. The month longs are KBF events I think. So kayaks.
  4. Not sure. Is this still bass fishing “fall”? 60 deg days here. ‘I’m not getting skunked, but I’m also not impressing myself. I got three fish two days ago, one tonight in the hour I had to get my kayak out on the water. Tough tough tough! will fishing get even tougher January and February? I’m in NorCal. Suppose to rain Saturday, I do have good rain gear!
  5. Got mine installed yesterday. Out on the water today. Mine is accurate. Learning the buttons has been surprisingly fast and easy. my nocqua battery is suspect tho.
  6. I’m having bass-boat envy. Sick rides! here’s mine. Simpler times.
  7. To be clear. I have the best wife. When I was single I had credit card debt and $2211.00 in my bank. Haha. She should have run for the hills. now? I’m at a level I never imagined possible. She bought me my kayak. we are a great team. She wants stuff moved or holes dug. Sure. Where and when ? I’m good with all of it. Hell, I’m Cinderella at my house. I cook and clean. She keeps the finances clean. It’s a good deal. she said I could buy a second kayak if I wanted. But I didn’t. I want the Hobie PA 360 in 12’. That’s a big chunk of cash. I’ll wait.
  8. That’s the worst run forum ever. I can’t seem to get my email validation thru. Login is impossible and now my email is in this vortex of oblivion where I am locked in and can’t attempt a new membership. I like their Delta sub-forum. Haha. I guess I just lurk.
  9. Ambushed. Total ambush. I was gonna go fish and then come home to remove an ancient potato-vine hedge from a wood fence destined for replacement. The fence contractor won’t touch the vines. Instead I moved everything around, organized, and then removed the ancient vine from the wooden fence. In my youth, I would have skated thru. Now, I’m so tired! Haha. I googled earth a new lake for tomorrow, but my kayak looks so heavy now. Maybe I should pretend to go fishing and sleep in my truck under a shade tree. btw - who grows vines in wooden fences anyways? It is a bad idea. I bought my house this way. From a crazy lady. She planted the vines AND BAMBOO! the moral of the story? Dont flake out on yourself and skip fishing
  10. I have a Lowrance on the way. im probably not done shopping. But I’m on a kayak and swapping units is fairly easy and without drama. My Hobie is set up fir Lowrance which really compelled the choice.
  11. I thought the ocean guys call it a “high-low” rig? at least the surf guys do. Same or diff?
  12. Front; because you get first crack at the fish? or back: because you fo not have to drive at all. ? I like the back except the casting obstacles of the motor and power-poles. But it’s forced me to cast creative like
  13. I have a Hook reveal 5 coming. I’ll look out for this and compare it to my handheld GPS. Thanks. I bought it from a store so I can give it back. Sucks you have to install everything to see and find ant potential issues.
  14. my Delta plans fell thru. I’ll go try a new spot at Berryessa Saturday
  15. Open communication. My friend works a lot. He fished a few tournaments. He hired a guide to help him practice and prefish unknown lakes. my recent guide would slow down and point out good kayak spots for me.
  16. Good luck. I lost a good LMB when it jumped. I call it a skunk.
  17. When fishing is tough I bring one rod. Makes me feel like I’m getting back to basics like I did as a kid. Especially bank fishing. I like to rig a z-man finesse Texas style with a pegged worm hook. It kinda acts like a Ned jig, but rarely snags and I can whip it far.
  18. Are they fun? Or did they ruin fishing for you? I can imagine you get way better at fishing going so often. I don’t even know where to begin. Are entrance fees exorbitant? Living in the Bay Area California, there is no shortage of organized events.
  19. Without a clue to how much a Johnboat cost, I’d venture a guess a kayak isn’t far behind. BUT! I’ve notice some kayak people are like mtn bike people. They want the latest and greatest. The used kayak market is pretty good! get a pedal drive kayak and never look back. The CPR. style of tournaments HAS to be healthier for the fish. Catch -photo -release has to save more bass lives than banging and stressing in a live well. I met an older gent that bought a use Hobie Pro Angler. Cheap. It was dirty but perfect. He stands and sits with ease. My Hobie is much less friendly to standing up. I can stand, but standing up is a challenge because the seat is so low. but I love it. It gets me places a boat can’t go or isn’t allowed. Like the lake 7 minutes from my house.
  20. I’m buying from West Marine. If I hate it I might jump up to the 7CV. But oddly enough, I want a smaller unit. I want less stuff to hang up on. By hang up, I mean me. I need all the real estate to shimmie back on board if I go over. I climb back easy with the tiny Garmin Striker 4. It’s in the other side of my entry point and I slide up next to it. It’s just me.
  21. I didn’t like the 703 much when I got it. It felt heavy. But as I got used it it, it became my favorite rod. I plan on buying another one soon. It’s my multitasker rod but usually sends the chatterbaits/jigs flying for the most part. (At the store) I picked up a Dobyns spinning rod the other day. Med-LT; it made me question buying my Phenix Maxim recently. It felt so great. I might grab it one day for a second finesse rod, since I love fishing that style so much. .
  22. I just ordered a Lowrance Reveal. It will be nice since the Hobies have teamed up with Lowrance and I won’t have to fabricate brackets and stuff. You selling it?
  23. I’m rigged up. Nose hook drop shot, a pb&J finesse jig, and a lipless crank bait trying to “match the hatch”. On the bench. Spoons and jerk baits.
  24. Headed back there tomorrow. Hopefully I’m better prepped.
