  1. i tried the 5's. one step up in quality. expert? something like that.
  2. @casts_by_fly thanks!! i have been meaning to go and try to match hooks at the shop, but been distracted by life. great tip on cutting the split ring. noted.
  3. next time i step off the plane in Brazil, i will have three 6-foot short Bucoo Peacock Bass Rods. one guy had them, and he was the least exhausted of the group each evening. the boat-rods were heavy sticks. exhausting. i think two 5 powers and one 4 would do the trick.
  4. in Brazil, i had my GoPro turned on a lot. i waded thru and organized the videos. amazing how much dead-air i had. i can only watch myself fast-jerk a giant musky topwater so long. thank goodness for 10x viewing speed. i then went a bought a new Apple computer. and then after i figured out all that stuff, including remembering random passcodes..i got started on iMovie. i'll never be Tarantino in the editing dept, but the software is kinda cool. i had a fun Sunday. what video editing software do you use? i might have my first YT vid up soon. hahhaha...no need to subscribe..it is for friends/family really.
  5. i actually want LESS holes into my hull. my Outback has the big one up front i dont even use..i keep two boxes in the one by my "junk". most of my stuff is in the back box. i enjoy the side twist needed to get to the stuff. some days, it is my only calisthenics. helps me keep my boyish figure.
  6. the Fury 703 is the rod in my arsenal that doenst know what it wants to be when it grows up. i throw chatterbaits on it all the time. a chatter isnt a slack line techique, so i dont worry about sensitivity. it hucks the chatters, and the fish seem to stay pinned. no issues. i'll snip off the chatter and go to a 1/2 jig..well, i used to. now it is backup on jigs. i have a blindspot for that rod, since it was the first rod i bought as an adult.
  7. @Buzzbaiter i think the Mongolian version of that Taimen trip is gonna happen for me before i die. the biggest challenge for me is to figure out how to cast a fly rod
  8. can't you use the holes for the power anchor? the threaded holes?
  9. what a tough story. so sad.
  10. solid logic @VolFan. solid! but somehow the added adventure of foreign lands and foreign languages adds to the allure for any fishing trip. I could have gone for much smaller peacock in Florida, but I wouldn't have seen/done/tasted/smelled/heard the things I did in Brazil. its the package I am seeking.
  11. I got my K back in 2019. it still looks brand new. it feels giant in my hands, but I still love it. super solid, and truth be told, I should have filled it with braid and taken it to Brazil instead of the MGL150 I made ride shotgun. bigger line capacity and the extra size would have been welcomed going after the native peacock.
  12. i have this one life to live. trying to fit it all in. not a lot of info out there.
  13. i'm ready to focus on 2024. i didnt suck badly this year, but the weather we had and have has been messing with my mojo.
  14. like our Tennesee friend above. i am a pro-sleeper. i get 8 hours easy. i cant fall asleep anywhere, like on a plane or airport..but i am very regimended in my sleep habits. i try not to deviate from the routine. sleepy time is when we heal.
  15. @flyfisher incredible! 70+ hours is wild. I think we die after 10 days sleep deprivation. 3 days we lose mental health. and your first sentence and last sentence contradict each other.
  16. I’m not young anymore. Brutal. I woke up Oct 10, at 5:00am and fished until noon. We got back to the mothership, addresses details like tipping the staff, packing our bags. Dinner. Went to bed for the what seemed like the last time. We woke up early, got off the ship and went to a jungle dirt runway and flew back to civilization. We checked into a hotel for no reason other than to shower, poop, etc. we all went souvenir shopping, got therapeutic messages, and ate a group dinner. I took a two hour nap, and and we got on a bus to the airport. 24 hours later my wife brought me home. SOMETHING BAD HAPPENED which delayed any sleep for another 3 hours. ( sorry still can’t talk about it). The bad thing kept playing over and over in my head so I didn’t really sleep. I might have dozed, but I’ve now been up 40 hours or so. No sleeping in the flights or layovers. it was crushing physically and mentally. I caught a cold and everything. This past weekend I focused on rest. I slept 10-11 hour every night and I’m all better. I remember in my youth it was no big deal. Now? I should have packed an Ambien. what is you longest awake session?!
  17. i wanna come back as a Trophy Wife!! hhahaha..
  18. My favorite rod coincides with my favorite technique. Light bottom contact in the form of tx-rig, free-rig, or jig….and even a weightless senko rigged weedless. I love it and the rod that I chose as “the one”. well, I broke the one:( im in the middle of sorting this all out, but I will buy another one right away if it all goes sideways. the X-Bites.
  19. i thought you had a ProAngler?
  20. DUH!! sorry. exiting now.
  21. do it. sometimes things just go wrong. nobody's fault.
