  1. I have a heavier Feather. Still warming up to the grip. but GREAT suggestion. Thanks.
  2. A shop my friend frequents has a few in stock. He called them from the lake yesterday and they are holding a right hand version for me. what line? I’m flying blind! 3 months ago I didn’t even know what the acronym BFS meant. I’m thinking 8 or 10LB braid (?). I hope this replaces one of my spin outfits. Tiny swimbaits, small weightless worms, etc. I really don’t know what I’ll use it for. Tiny cranks? I bought it on the fly. now the rod. Thinking the 7’4” Dobyns ultra finesse. thoughts?
  3. It didn’t suck. Two lost fish. Talking and not paying attention to the subtle bass cost me twice. Huge losses. It was so windy! 30 mph gust, but we handled the kayaks fine. Some gust felt like it would lean me over big time. I did get one fish to the boat. It was a good fish. Just shy of 5lbs. my friend landed FOUR! he is killing it this January. my fish.
  4. We are camping for three nights. I’ll cast from morning to dusk. It’s a far trip for me. I’m not bowing down to a skunk.
  5. Bring back the old school SASSY SHAD. The one that was printed to look like a real shad.
  6. thank you sir!! I have a 8" long jerk bait I bought when I must have been dreaming. hah.
  7. well,it's happening. my brother just called and told me airline tix are really affordable now. I bought my tickets. now to buy up some striper lures. I am REFUSING to buy a new rod and reel. this is probably the only time I'll do this trip. no sense buying a one time use rod.
  8. I ordered some plastic from Zoom in June-bug. what an interesting color!! I can't wait to try it on some of our California Bass. I think it would be a good dirty water color. the water I typically see in Clearlake, at Springtime. I got the 6" lizard!! I killed them in Green pumpkin last year. in Texas, we had a bug called the June Bug because they showed up in June. the insect was NOT purple. it was a rusty, brown color.
  9. When my wife’s coworker gets her new car she is offering me her old one. It’s a cherry low miles Honda Accord Hybrid. She brags about 50 mpg. She just put new tires on it. If she doesn’t hose me on price, I’m buying it and putting my Hobie on the roof. i think I’m gonna run my kayak on the roof upside down. So I’ll have the added move of flipping it over. Im Game to give it a try.
  10. You nailed it. they have their own tags. $12!! I might buy two. Jk. thanks for the super valuable info.
  11. I’m gonna meet my brother and some friends in OK. If this pandemic would just slow up a bit. targeting stripers. I’m taking a Heavy casting rod with a Abu reel that gets good distance. (Shore fishing) i want to bring you a spinning rig as well. I only have Med rods with 2500 series reels. Too light? I’ve never fought a big striper before. I could use my 4000 salt reel, but I don’t have a heavier rod. Trying Not to buy a new rod for this random trip.
  12. Thanks. Readily available at my local shop. Thanks
  13. Good luck. that’s a bucket list lake for me.
  14. Interesting. I once tried a Yamamoto shad shape and it looked awesome to me. The bass? Dunno. It was very streamlined
  15. I kinda like having the swimjigs, (any jig for that matter) in hand when I am trying to find a trailer. so I didn't order any. any suggestions? I only have tried a Kietech paddle tail thing. I got a great hit. sadly only ONE great hit on that swim jig at Clearlake, but it was enough to tickle my fancy. it was like the bass slammed it hard and it stopped cold. I really want more swim jig bass. it is so much fun..burning that bait thru the spring grass. not too tall, not too short grass.
  16. The correct answer would have been Fresh Fish AND ham and eggs please. hungry!
  17. Bananas are such an awesome and portable food! So funny fishermen freak out. anyone know the origin?
  18. Hobie scupper holes are reinforced. I think they would handle an anchor pole. nut my friend used a trolly and jabbed stake thru the ring. It was very effective. I need to come up with some anchor option. But I’ve done well three years now just floating around.
  19. the back and forth action of a Hobie Mirage drive is like the most natural move in the world. and I ride a man bike all the time. if I had to pick an advantage of a pedal, it is the instant reverse. strangely enough I have the movements worked out that I can fish most windy days. I just aim into the breeze and kick every once in a while. the world today, we can find a kayak that fits anyone's needs.
  20. I fish my hula grubs Texas rigged with a worm hook pegged. waiting for success this spring. It looks mighty tasty.
  21. I’ll talk. Inho the PA 14 is the boat to have if: you have transport figured out. I think it screams “kayak trailer”. It’s a heavy MOFO. It feels cumbersome and slow, but to be honest my friend can stay by my side if I don’t sprint. He has a 12 -360. when I ride in his, it is the most stable thing ever. I can face the side standing and pee over the edge. You can almost walk around the deck. I step forward In front of the pedal drive easy. the 14 I would never stand rods behind me. I would love the horizontal rod holders. I paddled an old version of the 14 and it’s like an island stable. in the end, I don’t have kayak trailer storage. The 14 is too much boat for me. Helping my friend move his 12 is a chore. There is a place I like to fish where we have to get kayaks over a cattle fence. I can’t even invite him.
  22. Speedos? That’s a Lowrance image I’m thinking we don’t need to see. At least the magnifying water droplet could come in handy.
  23. Perfect knife. I just gutted them. I’m not a fillet guy. whole fish here.
  24. I got TWO! 1 lb fish but I will take it. One of them was on a TUBE. fun. also brought home two large Crappie for dinner. I might go back just to target them. They are schooled up tight in deep water. Easy to find.
  25. I recall vividly last January. Frustrated and fish less. I even sank a spinning combo into 50 deep water. It was awful. I caught my first bass Feb 1 on a Ganatrel. Haha. this January is a carbon copy. I haven’t lost a rod yet! Phew! But the fish score is the biggest goose egg. headed out again in a few minutes. Trying to knock the ugly off of me. I’ll take a dink! Let’s do this. Good luck to all of you fishing this January day. Good luck!
