  1. I was crappie fishing the other night and a herd of bass came in to see what was for lunch, we caught several that we're around 3lbs on 4lb test.... So I lt just depends exactly what you are doing, on my spinning rod I use 6-12lb braid.... On this new bad ass shimano baitcaster .....um no thanks I'll pass.... It has 12lb fluorocarbon on it I've used braid for years but I'm not that brave....lol
  2. I just bought a shimano reel, and rod, at full price 100 for each. The reel is a slx 151hg, I'm right handed but I've always fished left... Idk. The rod is a slxcx72mh, I like both the rod and reel very much this is also my first personally bought baitcaster. The reel is amazing honestly, very easy to set up, and it casts extreamly well. I mostly fish for bass, but also fish for crappie, but also do some salt water trout and such... I picked a rod that suited me and my likes. But I'd urge everyone to remember that each slx rod has different specs.... My rod is SLX CX 72 my it's got a extra fast action, but also handles lighter weights well I do a fair amount of throwing soft lures so I needed a rod that would be good for 1/4 oz weights but the other 72" shimanos don't do well with lighter weights.. overall I so far would give the reel a 8 because it doesn't have magnetic drag, and the rod a 10 I love the rod.
