  1. Easy answer, level up the Champ 733 to an Extreme HP 743C I went from a DC703C to a DX743C and the DX is worth the upgrade. It feels so much more crisp and way more sensitive for sure. If you already like the balance of your DC733 and just want a better version, the DX is the way to go. If you are willing to pay retail for a new DX, there is a used Dobyns Xtasy DRX723C on ALF right now going for the same price as a new DX743.
  2. 30% off retail is already pretty good. Usually you see 20% discounts, sometimes 25% if you buy 2 or more rods. Sometimes there's a 40% gift card back on a Dobyns rod purchase. This time of year is sale season at the usual online tackle shops. Veteran's day is coming up, then Black Friday, then the holiday sales.
  3. I like a DX 743 to cast 1/4oz better, but I dont have much cover to deal with. If you use a heavy power victory for heavy cover reasons, a DX 744 is probably the right way to go.
  4. I am a dobyns fanboy, so take this with a grain of salt. With sale season coming up, you can probably get both of these rods for under $150. Sierra 734 for moving baits and treble hook stuff Kaden 744 for your jigs and t-rigs.
  5. I never made the connection with the name of that rod and the monster bass lake in Mexico. Neat!
  6. Magic eraser really is magic, aint it? It took that U-40 right off. I probably helped that it wasn't totally set. Now I dont know if the cork was previously sealed because it seems like its totally clean and smooth. I guess I get a second go at coating it. Thanks FrnkNsteen.
  7. Thanks for the suggestions. I'll try that when I get home tonight. I'm usually pretty OCD when applying U-40, but since it was a used rod I thought I wouldnt care if it wasnt perfect. I didnt take too much care to use a light coat and also didnt spend time to wipe the excess. I noticed it after it dried. The excess is enough to make me annoyed with its appearance. Never gonna do that again.
  8. I picked up a used rod and I couldn't tell if it had sealed cork, so I figured I would take care of it. After cleaning it and applying U-40, it seems it might have had a very light coat because the new coat appears to not have soaked in at all. Anyone have any suggestions on removing the excess U-40?
  9. Amazon.com : TRUSCEND Fishing Lures for Bass Trout Jighead Lures Paddle Tail Swimbaits Soft Fishing Baits Freshwater Saltwater Jigging Bass Fishing Lures : Sports & Outdoors Dark sleeper knock off that works just as good. Five 2.8" for $8, Amazon prime day price. Edit: Got my delivery today and it's 6 pieces, not 5.
  10. If I was in your shoes, I would try either a Dobyns Champ XP 744C or Extreme HP 745C
  11. Curious, how do you like it for bottom contact? Can you feel pretty good with those light baits on the end?
  12. You are able to load and cast 1/8oz lures on a GLX 843? I had an NRX+ 843 and I can't imagine it being able to load and cast anything that light.
  13. If anyone cares, I did a live chat with TW support and they were not sure where the web developers put the Used item section link, but said the current workaround is to search for the word "used" in the search bar and it brings up the used item section. https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/search-tackle.html?start=0&count=20&searchtext=used
  14. Does anyone know where to find the used section? It used to be on the clearance page, but I am not seeing it anywhere.
  15. If you can be patient for a sale in the used section of ALF, the Expride B 7ft medium was almost perfect to me in every way for 3/8 - 1/2oz things. I picked one up for $190ish + tax. I wanted a little lighter power for lighter things, so I sold it to get a medium light, but for that weight range, it was awesome.
  16. I had a cork handle tatula 7ft medium spinning rod at one point. It was a medium, but more power than I was expecting. I think it would be good for dragging 3/8 or 1/2oz lure packages. I didnt like how it loaded with things under 1/4oz and close to his rated max.
  17. 7:1 ratio is the MH/F of the reel ratios
  18. I always thought the lews LFS frame was the best, but recently picked up a Tranx 150 and it's so tiny. I imagine the Curado 150 MGL is the same.
  19. I am also a Dobyns fanboy but I was super impressed with the sensitivity and balance on an Expride when I had one. The handle thread issue irks me as well. I choke up when I hold spinning rods and have 3 fingers in front of the stem also. I dont mind holding onto a rod blank, and actually prefer that versus having a handle possibly muting any sensitivity, but I dont want to feel threads. I mounted a Stradic to a Champion XP 732 and it was ok, but I dont recall if there were any threads exposed when it was locked down. If anything, there was probably some exposed threads in front of the lock. I should have paid better attention, but I was impressed with the balance of the Stradic on a cheaper Phenix Feather that I was testing at the same time so I kinda ignored the Champ XP. I scoured google images to find a picture of a Extreme HP locked down on a Stradic but come up short. This is the closest I could find, a Tatula mounted to a DX703SF in Punch Fishing's video review. It doesnt look like there are any exposed threads and I assume the reel seat is the same on the full handle 7'4. I really want the Extreme HP 742SF to be comparable to the Expride 7'2 ML, but if the Expride is a lot better, then Expride it is, cork foregrip and all.
  20. I have both a Miravel 3000 and a Stradic FL 2500. Both are worth their price and fish fine. The Stradic is noticeably higher quality in all aspects. The weight issue is subjective to the rod you are putting it on as well as your preferences for balance. I had the Miravel on a 7'7 Phenix Feather. The rod is very light but also a little tip heavy because of the length. The light Miravel didnt help balance it out. The Stradic felt much better on that rod and my old Symetre FJ (9oz+) feels even better than that. The Stradic balances perfect on a 7ft Expride and I would think the Miravel would do the same, since that rod was not tip heavy, or at least not as much as the Feather. I sold the Expride before I could try the Miravel on it.
  21. sorry off topic from your question, do the bantam and the curado 150 mgl palm the same? or does one feel smaller than the other?
  22. I use the RP knot (very similar to alberto) for all connections of braid to mono/flouro. Its very easy and quick. The knot is especially small with 6-7 turns on 10 and 15lb braid to 10lb nylon.
  23. Dobyns also makes a heavy in the Champ XP line, DC705SF
  24. Looking for opinions from anyone that has handled both Dobyns Extreme HP and Shimano Expride Spinning rods. I'm specifically trying to decide between an Extreme HP 742 and an Expride 7'2 ML. Anyone think one is more sensitive than the other? Is one more powerful than the other? I had an Expride 7' M but I sold it off since I dont use spinning too often. It was very versatile but I think I want to be more specific with my spinning gear's use when I do need it. I will mostly throw dropshots (mosquito and light-wire EWG) and light t-rigs and jigs, 1/4oz and less. It will be paired with a Stradic 2500FL if that matters.
