  1. White or chartreuse.
  2. Great information Phil! Always interesting to hear what life is like in other parts of the country. I can see wanting to live on a lake in Florida...but Nebraska(?) I have two buddies who live on lakes up here...one near the Platte River...house flooded two years ago...18" of water in his basement. The other barely missed getting flooded. My sister has a cabin on a sandpit lake. All are nice, but for the price you pay...I'd rather live on my 3 acres with my 40x30 shop, and trailer my boat to the lake.
  3. Will be fun and interesting to watch this thread. Nebraska taxes are very high, but schools are some of the top in the nation (my daughters HS was ranked in top 1000 nationally), and roads/infrastructure is well maintained. But the d**n taxes...property tax is $10k a year...even have a wheel tax on vehicles(!). Doubtful I will ever move...family is here...we are super close. I would opt for Wyoming, but the wife refuses to move anywhere colder. And then there is family...did I mention we are close. Good luck with your search! Enjoy!!
  4. ^^^ Solid 8 for sure ^^^ One of my all time favorites...
  5. I have a few swim jigs in my box...but never tried them.
  6. Welcome! Love that you are fishing...OUTSTANDING! Lots of great advice here. Good luck!!
  7. Wise words from A-Jay! I use Adobe Premiere Pro to edit videos...I have a photography side business...did lots of stuff for my daughters HS sports teams. I have had so-so luck with Wasabi Power batteries for my Hero 3+. None of the batteries last long in the cold when I'm deer hunting. I got this for my GoPro...hook it to EasyAcc 20000mAh Portable power bank...not water proof, but will power the GoPro for a very long time.
  8. I haven't videoed fishing, but have used my GoPro Hero 3 and 3+ in the past -- hunting trips, daughter's softball, vacations, etc. These little action cameras are nice, you can get waterproof housings, different mounts, can even attach to fishing rod or shotgun barrel. Battery life not great...but you can add external battery pack. I think GoPro is up to Hero version 9 now. I am sure others have better advice and suggestions...but this is a start...Good luck!
  9. Ice just melting here...and my Boat is in a state of transformation...I have not even wet a line yet this year...so I guess I'm still "undefeated." : )
  10. Old Mepps spinners. And Panther Martin spinners. Parents had a cabin on Platte River...sandpit lake in the area...used to grab my fishing pole, tackle box and ride my bike back to the lake...would fish all day catching crappie and small bass. Good times!
  11. Congrats! Great write-up!
  12. If you can make a bait caster work with light tackle, by all means, keep doing it! All my bait casters are rigged with 30 lb braid and bigger. I switched to braid back in the early 1990's...hated the birds-nests with mono, and braid had so much more sensitivity. Most of my spinning rods are rigged with 6-8 lb mono...I can throw some pretty light lures a long, long way. Works for me.
  13. Walked down to the shop...my XML Ti does not have the Recoil guide tip. Tip has a ceramic insert. Good to go! Thanks for all the words of wisdom.
  14. Anyone have issues running PowerPro through titanium guides? Don't think I will have any issues with my Cabela's XML Ti spinning rod...Thoughts?
  15. Not bass fishing, but walleye...I've been to the Silver Water Wheel Lodge in Canada four times in the past 20 years. Our preferred method of catching "eyes" is a simple lead-head with a live minnow on the back. They have minnows flown in every other day. I'd rather fish for Pike or Smallies, but the buddies who go on this trip are hardcore walleye fishermen.
  16. This boat will run all day on a lone walmart deep-cycle batter powering MinnKota 40lb trolling motor...battery sits in the back of the boat, connected to the trolling motor with 6 gauge welding wire. Trolling motor and wiring is 20 years old. I replace the battery every 2-3 years. Keep a battery tender on it year round.
  17. Back in the mid 1996 me and some good buddies trekked down to Lake Fork for some bass fishing. We were young, few of the guys worked at Cabela's HQ in Sidney, NE...Fished hard throwing everything but the kitchen sink...couldn't catch a d**n thing. A few locals suggested we get some big shiners, rig slip bobbers and fish the timber. The bigger the shiner, the better. Had a BLAST! One guy boated an 8 lb bass. I haven't fished that way since that trip. Anyone toss out the shiners lately?
  18. Met Roland Martin at the Omaha boat-show last spring. We walked up and talked for about 20 minutes...Super nice guy! It was towards end of the day and not many people around. We talked fishing and turkey hunting. Didn't even know he had a YouTube channel until recently. I've been watching his videos...and will keep watching...
  19. Curious what lure / technique you start the day with...and then what lures to you move to... I try to be on the water before daylight, and almost always start with top-water: buzz-bait or W-plopper. From there I move to my tried-and-true favorites: Blue-fleck t-rigged 7" worm Spinnerbait Senko or Slug-Go Square-bill crank or Rattle-trap Jig+trailer If the bite is slow I will transition to the following: White power-grub on a lead-head Drop shot Super-floaty worm Ned rig What is your pattern, and why?
