I had one get tangled in my fishing line a couple of weeks ago. I was close to home so I carried the rod home, got heavy gloves, then cut the hook off the end. I cut the other end and he fell to the ground, apparently was able to shake free of the short piece of line and took off. They buzz my line all the time but this one just didn't have his radar working.

WOW!! I'm glad I wasn't on board but if I was I'd sure be glad to have that pilot. Experience when it counts.

The story is always the same, died in a plane crash. Can't they get more creative, like eaten by a shark while scuba diving, or parachute failed to open while skydiving? Maybe it would hold my interest more.

Here in PA we have a very handy guide which can be found online. Its by PAopencarry.org. I have printed a few copies and keep them in my glove compartment, should I need to refer to them.

That's what I was going to suggest. I always leave the plastics lying around by themselves for a few days before I put them back in the bag, if i ever do. Sometimes I just put used ones in the tacklebox.

Sometimes the bass don't even give you a tap, just pressure. I've been fishing Sluggos a lot lately and the blueys are tap tap tap. The bass just swim away with it. I have been watching the line and letting them go for about 2 or 3 seconds, then setting the hook. Even with that length of time I have only deep hooked 1 bass out of the last 50 or so I've caught. Some of the bluegills have actually been grabbing the tail of the Sluggo and swimming off with it, then when i set the hook, I pull it from their mouth. I saw one do it in the shallow water. He was determined!

Actually, I have been fishing the Sluggo a lot this year, and have had very good success. I love the wounded minnow action. I was using it at the pond the other evening and after the nose was torn, it ended up automatically being wacky rigged. I still caught 3 more bass on it. It did a very good imitation of a minnow, on it's side, struggling in the water. The 3" ones have been very productive. Don't think I've caught more that a few this year on a senko.

My biggest Northern Pike, to date, swiped at, and missed, a buzzbait 3times, within 1/2 hour, before I finally got him on the 4th. I don't know if he continued to be annoyed with the thing and finally had had enough, or if he just kept missing it. But keep after them.

Hey, we just had a 17 yr old girl, riding through a parking lot on the hood of another 17 yr old girl's car. She slid off and the driver ran her over. Life flighted to the hospital. You can't fix or legislate stupid.

Never tried rigging them weightless on a EWG. I'm going to give it a try.

After the skirts have deteriorated on a buzzbait, or spinnerbait for that matter, has anyone ever fished them by simply threading a curly tail grub onto the hook? Has it worked for you? On a related question, is there an easy way to get new skirts into buzzbaits and spinnerbaits, or is it simply not worth the effort to replace them.

The metal used on the front lip is definitely thinner, approx. .025 v. .03 by my measurements. The biggest difference though is how the cup is made. The older models have a distinct dish or bowl in the lip. The newer ones are simply bent to form the curve. It's subtle, but noticeable.

Thanks for the feedback, guys. I did notice that the Mojo seemed more tip heavy than either of the other two rods. I was, frankly, really impressed with the weight and balance of the Gander Mtn. rod. Plus, it came with a 5 year, no hassle guarantee, if I remember correctly.

I am looking to get a new rod, a medium light for throwing smaller, lighter weight plastics, such as 3" sluggos. I have been looking at the St. Croix Mojo, 6'9" ML, an Abu Vendetta, 7' ML and a Gander Mtn Titanium, 7' ML. Both the Abu and the Gander Mtn. feel lighter. I think the Abu has a little faster tip than the St. Croix. I have a St Croix Avid that I really like. How does the Mojo compare to that, or the other two rods for that matter? The St. Croix is $20 more than the other two, but I would spend that if it were the better rod and because I believe the Mojo is made in the U.S. Correct me if I'm wrong there. Any thoughts? BTW, the Mojo is listed as being for drop shotting, but I'm not sure that matters. I'm sure it would work for my purposes.
