  1. The owner did put a dozen grass carp into the pond. We're just looking to get this slop off the top to speed things along. I had thought about some pvc pipe, capped on the ends so it floats and attaching something to it to collect the weeds as its pulled along.
  2. "I feel the need...for speed"
  3. I had a recent conversation with the owner of a local pond that I fish. He's been having a weed problem for the last several years and we were discussing ways to possibly clean the floating weeds and scum from the surface. The pond is several acres and a jet ski or small boat can be put in the water. We were trying to come up with something that could float on the surface and be pulled by the boat. This device might have small tines or something to catch the weeds and then be dragged to shore and emptied. The weeds don't cover the entire pond but there are enough to make fishing a real pain as every retrieve collects this junk and thus spoils most every cast. Any thoughts on how to clean this pond's surface?
  4. Years ago, I had a similar situation to Glenn's. I was a witness to an accident but somehow things got messed up and I was listed as being involved. Then my insurance company got involved and I had to straighten that out. It didn't get as bad as it could have, but was unnerving and inconvenient. Given the litigious nature of society today, I unfortunately would probably not do anything. I might try to control some bleeding but as far as moving anyone, I would not do that. Unfortunately, no good deed goes unpunished. I'm not sure how not doing anything could get you in trouble, but I suppose it could.
  5. These guides are quite small. Not sure if even 30# mono would go through them. Braid would not be an issue obviously. I won't be fishing when ice would be a problem. Do they offer better casting, less line "wobble" going though the guides. Smaller guides = less weight, even though there are more of them. For a reel, $100 or less. http://www.wright-mcgill.com/skeet-reese-2/sf-micro-honeycomb-rods The heavy cover rod is the one I'm looking at.
  6. I've been looking for a new rod for chucking heavier spinnerbaits, crankbaits, jigs, etc, usually between 1/2 to 1 ounce. I ran across these Skeet Reese rods at Gander Mtn. They have a heavy/fast action, 7'6" rod for line up to 30# and baits up to 1 1/2 oz. It also has the micro guides, which I'm not sure about. Seemed very nicely balanced and light weight, but the guides bother me. Anybody own any Skeet Reese rods in general and micro guides in particular? What do you think of them. Also, what reel would you pair with it that would have some decent line capacity and drag power?
  7. I agree there will be a lot going on, but one thing it won't be is the end of the world. I'll be getting the pool ready all the same.
  8. I wonder if the heat wave that occurred on the 8th and 9th was caused by the solar flares that occurred at that time. The flares have since subsided and so has our temperature. Only in the mid 60's. Next year they are predicting coronal mass ejections much worse than the ones that just occurred. Could be in for some serious heat next year.
  9. I'm not retired....I'm just plain, old tired!
  10. So the glaciers are melting. Not long ago most of North America was covered by ice. It melted. They had global warming back then obviously.
  11. An ineffectual endeavor to place an insignificant sphere in an obscure hole with inadequate tools.
  12. Clean up in aisle 7
  13. Has anybody tried these yet? Picked up a pack of 5" at Gander Mtn. Tried it once, but didn't have the action I thought it would have. Then something took the tail off it, so that pretty much rendered it useless. I was afraid maybe short biters or blues might be able to rip the tails off them easily. Only had the opportunity to try one so far but I'll give the rest of the pack a go. http://www.lftlures.com/categories/soft-plastics-lft-hyper-worm-5-hyper-worm
  14. Wow, that is beautiful. Guess what I'm going to have to save for.
