  1. This is how I tend to do it as well. Check the weather, try to plan my week around that. Doesn’t always work, and some days become “spontaneous fishing days”
  2. I started fishing about a year and a half ago. I went through the usual pitfalls of a new angler; buying too much stuff, thinking you need one of every lure of every color and size, and all of that. I decided over the winter that I was going to try to commit this years season to learning 2 types of lure, mine being jerkbaits and big swim baits. Does anyone else go into the season with this mindset? (I’d imagine I’m not the first person to dedicate time to learning a specific lure) or do you tend to just go out and mix it up until something happens?
  3. I fish from the bank exclusively, so my list is a little different than a boat angler. Excluding tackle, in order of importance: 1. Polarized sunglasses-I will go back home to get them, I don’t care. It’s not worth going without them 2. Fishing Pliers-I’ve never personally been stuck by a hook bad enough to require amateur shore surgery, but the fear is enough. Again, I will go home or if I’m too far from home, I’ll buy a cheap pair of needle nose. It’s not worth getting a treble past the barb in your hand 3. Rubber boots-I have a pair of rubber boots from Huk I got on the cheap, and they’re great if you’re stuck to the bank and need to step out into the water a bit to grab a fish. Won’t necessarily turn around to get them but I’m always mad when I forget 4. Scale-again, I won’t go back home for it but it never fails, if you want to catch a PB go out without your scale to verify. It’s almost a guarantee.
  4. I gotta say, I’ve been a long time lurker of these forums, reading your posts as far back as 2012. Your attitude and outlook are one of the biggest things I’ve taken away from this site, regardless of topic. Thanks for being a great help to my fishing. on topic: I should be fishing, but the weather radar lied and said the rain and lightning would stop around noon when I got off work. Hasn’t stopped yet, holding out hope it stops soon.
  5. For me, catch fish apparently. I went out and threw one today, water temp around 48-50 deg. Use a lift and drop, slow retrieve, burned it, and had no luck. I also noticed it seems to run almost sideways, but that could just be my technique. They seem to “blow out” and even moderately fast speeds but I was also using an 8:1 reel
  6. Thank you! Another question and thing I’ve had trouble with: how do I know when to keep trying with a specific lure/presentation and when to switch? I tend to throw 2-4 times one way/speed/method, then slow down/speed up, and then try another piece of cover/new spot/ new angle. Since I’m fishing from the bank, getting to new cover/spots can take a minute walking through the trees or bushes.
  7. Hey all, I started fishing last year, and throughout the year I got more comfortable fishing T-Rigs, Ned rigs, and jigs. Since it’s winter and I can’t go out, I’ve been reading a lot of stuff online and fishing these “fast” vs “slow” depending on conditions. When I first started, “slow” in my mind was letting it hit the bottom, and sit there for 15-20 seconds, hop/drag, another 15-20. Even my “fast” fishing was probably a good 4-5 second rest. As I’ve learned more, watched videos, and read articles it seems that “slow” is my “fast” hahaha. So what would you say the standard “slow” and standard “fast” would be? Thanks!
  8. Hey all, I’m heading up to Lafayette IN for the weekend and was looking to catch some bass/walleye/sauger/pike etc, anyone know of some good spots? Father in law said the Wabash River is not a good place, I’ll be fishing from the bank if that changes the answers. thanks!
  9. Hey everyone! Newer angler from SW Ohio. I’ve been lurking around here for a while, and seeing all the great information decided to sign up. This seems like a great community. good luck and tight lines!
