  1. do as much research at home as possible prior to going to the lake. have a plan and an area picked before you get there. if that doesnt work move out or in depending on conditions. between google earth and contour maps you could have plenty of good starting spots already marked on your graph.
  2. Is a ribbon tail worm a thing of the past? I've got a box full but never pull them out and debating on taking them out of the boat. I never hear locals talk about using them and nobody I fish with even mentions then anymore. Its either trick, monsters, or senko.
  3. Is fishing down there that tough? I've fished the last four days down there with very little success. People talking about getting on schooling spot bite but I didnt find much of that going on while I was down there. Fishing docks and rocks seemed to be where most fish came from during our tourney. I found myself fishing both but barely got a limit both days. I spent a lot of time on water willow also but doesnt seem like that really holds fish too well. One guy said he would catch most of his keeperd within 200 yard stretch, so the lake must be really area dependent. We fish down there every October and this was my second year but still struggling. I"ll keep going back and hopefully figure it out.
  4. When I fish my club tourneys i seem to suck at catching fish early. Therefore the later in the day when trying to catch a limit I rush which makes the situation worse most likely. When I pleasure fish, I can catch fish any part of the day but go back to similar places for the tourney and dont have any luck. Fishing with 5 in the box makes it so much easier but I dont seem to get this chance often. Any tips?
  5. Revo SX has been sold.
  6. reduced $150
  7. lets hear some on the water reviews of jerkbait and topwater? they are alot cheaper than others.
  8. Cleaning out my shed and ran across a few reels. All have been used but no real damage just a few scratches. Can send pics by email. All three for $175. Shimano citica 200 hg 7:2:1 Abu garcia revo sx 6:6:1 Duckett paradigm cwx 100 7:5:1
  9. with all the new jerkbaits out and hadnt seen a recent post about other alternatives. what is out there that everybody is using besides megabass, i just cant think of losing a 25$ bait. I lost a stunna the other day and that was bad enough. Thanks
  10. i dont have the pro but have live and the rings on lowrance i have not been able choose the distance, it just sets them automatically. may not know what i'm doing though. you can find the on/off for rings from home page-settings-chart i think without going to my unit. i know on humminbird you can set the distance.
  11. My use and the way i fish has change depending on the lake I'm fishing. I have found that it is more effective at some lakes than others. Lakes that have a lot of trash fish and when you scan with it you see stuff everywhere I find myself no relying on it. Maybe I'm just not in the right spot but put me on other lakes and I'll put 30-40 in the boat each day with it.
  12. little late for this but Mayo has been fishing pretty good. fish are finally getting off the bank. how did your trip end up going? going during the week is the better option for sure as the weekend can get out of hand. 3 fish tournaments have been taking 12-13 lbs to win.
  13. I I agree, I keep trying nicer reels and find myself going back to these. Spend the extra money on the rod.
  14. Are the hooks on the stunna jerkbaits just junk or what? I've had to replace the hooks on three different baits in the last two weeks. What should I be using as a replacement for better hook up? It seems the dinks have no problem getting to the boat but larger fish I keep losing them, I'm not sure if its how they are hitting the bait or what. Some of them come up and throw it but some just can tell by feel they are better fish. May need to be looking at a different brand. Thanks
  15. all the talent it seems this kid has, it shows he's still a kid. the penalty for blowing thru a no wake zone and now this. with that size of a bag i'd be setting at the tanks 30 minutes early. his weight is now zero for day 2 due to taking a call and someone telling him he was late. he may get back in AOY depending on how good he fishes for smallmouth, but this would have separated him in the rankings.
  16. freeloader with core tackle hover rig for FFS is great. been catching them all spring on them. was hooked on them from the first cast, brought in a 3.5 lb.
  17. i'll make these changes and give it another try. mainly targeting fish in the 10-15 ft depth. i'm running active target 2. pretty good using it swimbaits and other baits but havent figured out the jerkbait deal yet.
  18. Was listening to the bass after dark podcast on jerkbait fishing and most of the anglers claimed to use most jerkbaits straight out of the pack with very little modifications and have success. I'm having trouble getting them down to desired depths therefore and not catching the fish i'm targeting. I been using both depth of Berkley stunna, Yozuri, and also have some Rapala deep husky that i've tried. What could I be doing wrong that they dont get down. I've got FFS so I can see the lure and know where its at. I can catch fish on them but most of the time its schooling fish so they dont have to go deep. I'm using 12 lb copoly line on a baitcaster.
  19. Mackintosh, Cammack, and Graham-Mebane are all close by. They are not big lakes and not open all the time but fishing I've heard is good. They are all city reservoirs I think.
  20. i've been trying a different braid each time i need another spool but havent found one to stick with yet, one thing with braid i try to at least look for some with a 300 yard spool so i can get more than one reel out of it. i've tried to the following and with last two going on spools this morning all in 15 lb test. beyond braid - loses color, junk yozuri - decent just small spool sufix 832 - loses color, wind knots power pro spectra - noise going thru eyes berkley x9 daiwa j braid grand
  21. Headed down next week for three days, one day to pre-fish and two day tourney. I've never been to the lake. Whats the water temp right now? I know the cold front this weekend is going to push it down and fish will adjust. Local lake I'm fishing right now fish are moving up bigger creeks following bait, hopefully Gaston will be about the same.
  22. Bringing up an old topic but I am need to the same part right now, ereplacements says that the part is obsolete so that is not an option. I'm not sure what the spirit lake place is and the other link is in Canada and website doesnt want to pull up. Wonder will any other dust cast fit this reel? Thanks for any help.
  23. i've been using sunline sniper for leader on spinning rod but keep breaking line on hook set. i've tried palomar and gman youtube knot. any other ones to try? tired of losing fish...
  24. fall season would definitely be better for Falls than summer. the fishing is good there offshore during the summer but I went last year after not going for many years and the amount of boats there on a weekday was crazy. and of course many of those had no business being on the water with jet skis and wake boats. i'm sure it will fish a little tougher in the fall but plenty of options on where to fish.
