  1. The more light penetration , the lighter color the bass will be. I'd have to say that I don't agree with that. In the ponds I fish the darker muddy water always seems to hold light colored almost pale fish, as the clearer water holds darker, greener fish. If the sun can't get through the water to the fish they can't get a nice tan. Makes sense to me. ;D
  2. To answer the question of why not get your hooks at Dick's? I know there isn't a Dick's in Oklahoma at least that I know of. Try Academy they seem to have everything I want and usually at a better price than Bass Pro.
  3. I go to bassmaster.com you can go to the fishing tips tab and find best times to fish. It tells you next to the times what the phases of the moon are. I try to plan my fishing accordingly and 90% of the time the fishing really picks up during those times. (for me anyway)
  4. I'd have to go with #2 but #3 is real close
  5. Thanks for all the info guys, and the jokes. For some reason I always kill fishing weightless plastics and yet I always forget about doing it. Thanks for the refresher. I'm fishing my first tournament next weekend I'm looking forward to using my new "trick" worms.
  6. Generally I like to fish fast moving baits but will slow down and fish the worm occasionally. I've read a lot of people on here use a trick worm. What kinda tricks does it do? And how do I fish it? To me it looks pretty much like a basic soft plastic. What gives?
  7. I've fished ponds all of my life and the best bait for me has always been a 1/8 strike king mini king in white or chartreuse. Buzz the sucker right under the surface. I"d been having hook up problems lately cuz the bait is moving so fast so what I did was turn the trailer hook upside down more likely to get snagged on stuff but if you can see your bait just under the surface the only thing you should snag is bass.
  8. 7-10 on a Bill Dance model spinner bait white with a blue head and a Colorado blade. Had a palm sized sunfish in it's mouth and craw fish tentacles sticking out of it's throat.
  9. fishing from the bank until I get my boat finished but I'm sure on the days I don't wanna mess with it I'll go back the where it all started from The Bank
  10. I"m a switcher too with the bait caster but stay with the same hand with my spinning gear. I need to learn how to cast left handed for these summer time bass and throwing buzzbaits.
  11. I'll have to check into one of those and see what happens. It's just so frustrating knowing that you are surrounded by fish and you can't get them to bite.
  12. So I went out today and fished a couple of the local lakes after I got off of work. We have got a few inches of rain over the last couple of days so the lake levels are up a bit. (even though they are still way down) At both lakes bait fish were everywhere jumping around and swirling on the surface. I would assume that would mean they were being chased by something. Unless bait fish just like to get dry for a moment or two. : I tried spinner baits of all shapes and sizes, buzz baits, stick baits, rattle traps, and every kind of plastic worm I have. Nothing I only had one bite and caught that one and only fish. What gives? Any Help would be appreciated.
  13. I'll try that swimming a jig idea and see what happens. The weather has kinda cleared up a bit wind wise anyways and the rain has stopped for a while think I'll try it down at the lake for a bit. Wish me luck
  14. I've tried adding the trailer hooks. Again No Dice! As I said in a previous post it's like they are biting with their mouths closed. Maybe they are just hitting the blades. The next thing I will have to try is putting the trailer hook on upside down. That may take away the whole weedless idea but may get more fish on the bank. The strange thing is it seems like the presentation is what they want. Something super fast running through their territory. When you get a hit you can cast several times in a row at the same spot and get popped just nothing sticks. It sure is kewl to see the V swimming for your bait it just sucks when they crush it and nothing happens.
  15. Well I'm not sure it's happening to everyone but here in Oklahoma we've been getting hammered with rain the last few days. With the water rising and essentially spreading out the fish the bite has seemed to go cold. When I get bites nothing sticks. I was fishing the other day with a buddy and had my spinner bait knocked out of the water several times and had fish come out of the water after it as well. No Dice! > We tried plastic worms no takers not even a bump, it seemed they would only hit a fast moving spinner bait just barely under the surface. What do I need to do to make these fish hang on when they are smashing the bait? Does this have anything to do with the rising of the water and the fact that what once had some visibility is now as dark as night? Is it possible the fish are swinging and missing? If so I sure wouldn't thing they would miss so many times. Any help would be great.
  16. Unfortunately I don't have a web cam so I can't post a pic of the blade. But you can create your own. All you have to do is take a normal willow leaf blade curve side up, take a nail put it it the middle of the blade (widthwise) more towards the top of the blade (lengthwise) and hit it with a hammer just enough to make a small endentation. When you run the bait you'll see what I mean. Looks neat and works like a charm. 8-)
  17. Nope looks nothing like that. I"m sure it probably is comparable when it is in the water though. The biggest difference is the baits I've made have smooth blades except where I have placed the dent. And the biggest difference of them all, mine only cost me a buck at Academy or Wal-Mart that thing looks espensive. Looks like a great bait but if you can get the same results and save some cash, I figure why not.
  18. Just thought I'd let some of my fellow bass fisherman in on a killer I stumbled on. I was fishing one windy day and a huge gust took a long cast and threw it into the rocks on the d**n. As I jerked my bait out of the rocks it came flying at me like a bullet thankfully I was able to get out of the way and it pounded a sharp edged rock beside me. When it hit the rock it put a slight ding in the blade. Now when you retrieve it the bait looks like it has another eye swimming above it. I continued to throw that bait and I've killed them on it ever since. Since then I've taken a small chisel and kinda popped lil dents in the bigger willow leaf blades on my baits and man it's hot! Give this a try I'm sure it will work for you too. 8-)
  19. 1. Helk yeah they catch fish 2. I kinda fish on the gaudy side of the spectrum on real clear water. Right now I've been experimenting with the Lake Fork brand hot pink lizard and electric orange worm. I believe Jimmy Walker said it best "Dynamite!" ;D
  20. I've been doing pretty good. Ive caught fish every time I've gone out. The only thing that has really fluctuated has been the size of the fish. Here lately I've been catching a ton of ity bities, but not to long ago I was catching 2-4 #ers. I probably go fishing once a week on average. At least once every ten days. Good luck with the weather
  21. I was fishing in Minnesota one summer and hooked a small mouth, about 5 ft from the boat a big pike shot out from under the boat and basically cut him in half. About 20 minutes later my dad caught a big pike when we cleaned it later that evening it had about half of a small mouth in it.
  22. I'm just interested in possibly joining a bass club any info would be awesome.
  23. I'm an avid fisherman and love nothing more than pulling a big ole bass. Tell me about your club. What are dues, do you have meetings? Boats only? If so I have no boat how could I participate? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
  24. If that doesn't work you could always tie on the biggest treble hook you can find and put on a huge weight and start snagging! ;D
  25. I have a feeling we are kinda the same in the way we fish. I generally "powerfish" with fast moving baits and in pretty shallow water. I completely understand were you are coming from when you talk about being in a "slump". I get in those sometimes too. Being a golf professional I'll say this if you keep it simple and trust yourself you'll do just fine. The hardest thing about golf like fishing is keeping it simple. I find that when I'm having a hard time both on the course and on the water that I'm pressing and trying a lil to hard. Calm down a bit and know that you are the best angler you know and you'll catch one on the next cast. I think you'll find you'll not only have better results but you'll have more fun too.
