  1. I don't fish the swim jig that often but when I do I use 2 main retrieves. 1) A long cast and let it sink on a tight line rod tip at about 10 O'clock and reel the bait back at a pace that just keeps the bait off the bottom and or ticking the tops of the cover. I will add in a few ticks with the rod tip, but that is pretty much it. When using this retrieve I generally use something I feel will mimic a craw fish in color. 2) Again make a long cast and burn it back letting the legs of your trailer sort of act like a buzz bait. This makes tons of commotion, yet it's subtle. (if that makes sense) Occasionally I'll kill the bait just past where I think there should be a fish laying. When using this retrieve I like to use something I feel resembles the baitfish that are being fed upon in your particular body of water. For me it's blue gill, for you it may be shad or something else. Hope that helps a little bit, tight lines Pondboss
  2. I live in Guthrie, and there is some pretty good Suager/Walleye fishing here at the local lake. From what I hear it's one of the best lakes for Sauger in the state. I've never caught any, but I don't fish for them. It's also a good Crappie lake when the season is right. Lake Hefner is a good lake to catch any fish you can think of. Walleye, Largemouth, Smallmouth, Saugeye, Cats, Crappie, along with White Bass and Hybrids. I'm a school teacher, so I'm free during the weeks now that school is out. Shoot me a message and we can set something up.
  3. I got a cheep pair at Academy(tournament choice) and they work just fine on any rings I've needed to change.
  4. If the teaser killed the action, I'm not sure they would make them. When you pause the bait the teaser tail gives it added action by slowly falling and fluttering on its own.
  5. Carolina Rig, Drop Shot, and Deep Crankin my guess though is these are "typically" either deep water applications or more vertical. I typically fish from the bank, so I'm way out of practice with these presentations. To the OP though, Jimmy Houston once told me to real a spinner bait so that you can just see the blades flickering. The water clarity will dictate how deep you can fish your bait. I have always listened to his advice when fishing a spinner bait and have always done well with them.
  6. just waiting for the ones on top to swim off the screen. Great work on both, but the bream looks ridiculous.
  7. Used to live on Lake Ray Hubbard in TX had my own boat ramp, the whole nine yards. I loved that house and running crankbaits in my pool. I'd say give me my old house back! lol But if it's some place new, I'd say Table Rock.
  8. Thanks Von that is exactly what I needed. Awesome!
  9. When it comes to topwater fishing, I tend to listen Jigfishn10. The Spook in his avatar says it all.
  10. sounds pretty sketchy to me, making someone else spend their hard earned money on a used product that is supposed to be new is pretty awful.
  11. I'm a fan of the top 2, like jbass I'm a craw bait basser.
  12. I'll take 2 in 1/4 and 2 in 3/8
  13. Thanks for the help, I had already looked into those and wasn't sure. Maybe I will give them a shot anyways.
  14. Pretty good for a "toy camera". But you gotta play that fish more when he gets by the boat, let him earn his 15 seconds of fame
  15. I dunno honestly, but I did catch a fish today right after breaking off, landed this fish and he had my fluke from the previous cast stuck in the corner of his mouth. Not sure if you wanna call that anger and aggression or starving. lol Either way it saved me a bait and a hook.
  16. I would go with marabou or buck tail. When I was a kid we used to tie our own striper jigs with buck tail and they were great. It's stiffer than marabou, but I think if you had a strand of reflecting tape in with the tail it would fluter and shine as it slowly fell. Marabou kinda has it's own life with the flow of the bait, adding extra to it may take away from it. I'd go straight marabou or add a bit of flash to the more ridged buck tail.
  17. S**t tickets ) never heard it called that before. Sounds like you pack pretty light. Here lately I've been doing the same. 2 rods an old back pack from college with about 10 bags of plastics and a 8x10 tackle box. One rod (7' MH)with 30lb braid 14 fluoro leader for jigs, flukes, and t-rigged craws. The other rod (6'6" M) for smaller stuff like cranks and spinnerbaits.
  18. I T-rig it, and skin hook it on the back side. That may be why I don't get very a long life out of each bait, but it sure does add to my hook up ratio. A while back I had a post on here about fishing flukes and having an almost zero hook up percentage, since skin hooking on the back side, my hook up rates have sky rocketed.
  19. I'm fishing the fluke on a 7' MH casting rod using 30lb Spider Wire with a 3 ft 14lb Vanish Fluorocarbon leader . Using a walk the dog retrieve with long steps.(2 count) It is probably walking and working anywhere from on the surface to 2 feet deep depending on how it wants to swim.
  20. I have tried the stick worms, and they have not done well. I've only been able to conjure up one bite and a couple of follows. The fluke seems to really be the ticket. But who knows? Maybe tomorrow they will be smashing the stick worms, after all it is fishing. lol What is the differences between a trick stick and a senko?
  21. I tell you what, I've got these fish figured out using the Fluke. (green pumpkin/black fleck and Arkansas shiner) Went twice today for about an hour each time and got 9 keepers. Had a few other bites that didn't work out the way I'd like them to, but 9 fish on 13 bites ain't bad. Especially since I broke off 2 of them.
  22. Who is he? I'd like to ask him some questions about tournament fishing. Please PM me
  23. Went back today and threw the fluke. I never had to even put my tube in the water. I caught my limit on about 20 casts. When the sun went behind the clouds and it got dark the fish stopped biting. But it made for a good outing and a quick finish. Now I have loads of time for honey do's. lol
  24. Guess I'll try going weightless with some flukes or trick worms. Avoidance sounds like an ideal plan, except it's really close to home and my land is 30 minutes one way. That being said, I guess I'll have to tolerate it and hopefully clean up in the bare spots and cross my fingers with weightless stuff. Thanks guys, Pondboss
  25. The weeds are everywhere, all depths and is speratic at best. Don't get me wrong there are places to fish where you can come back with nothing on your bait and catch fish, but man oh man I just know there are loads of fish in all that junk. I was in my tube today and got passed by a LMB that would easily go 5 lbs, but couldn't fish for him because he just slipped into the junk and disappeared.
