  1. Your setup is absolutely fine for what you want to do. Personally i prefer one piece rods but grew up only using two piece. The 12lb Fluoro is fine. I personally wouldn’t go heavier than that. If you find your boy casting as far as you want you could drop down to 10lb or 8lb line. I wouldn’t go lighter than 8. Flouro is nearly invisible and sinks so Texas rigs and drop shots are perfect. For a first setup a medium fast action rod is a great all around rod. Very versatile for different weights and techniques. St Croix makes great stuff. I have a mojo bass rod and love it. 6’ 6” is a great size for accuracy over distance. Shimano is like the Cadillac of fishing reels so no worries there. Your first starter setup is way above my first $35 combo from Walmart. Have fun with the setup and experiment with different techniques and lures. Then you’ll be sucked in like the rest of us and have 20 setups just because. Good fishing!
  2. Used to not manually flip and have learned to always do that. Want to say plfueger says to in the directions as I think it is easier on one of the bearing if you manually flip. Input from a 5 year pond fisherman so take with a grain of salt.
  3. Looking to add another casting rod to my collection and wanted to get your opinions on the speed demon pro rods by kastking. I already have a couple of them and think they are very nice. Question to you all is for $110 should I really be looking at something else? For another $20 I can get a st Croix mojo bass for example. I would prefer to be able to go hold and feel the recommendations and have a dicks, Cabela’s, and bass pro within an hour and a half of me. So things those stores carry are preferred. Thinking I want a medium heavy rod for the Daiwa tatula ct reel I just ordered. Thanks in advance for your opinions and suggestions.
