  1. Great rod. If you want slightly more backbone, the TTU711HFB (7'1" Heavy fast) is the big sister rod to the one mentioned above. I have two and they are my do-all jig rods.
  2. Now I know you ain't about to buy no regular ole Tat. ?
  3. Out of curiosity, what kind of top speed are you getting out of that setup?
  4. I'll say, I've already changed out the inductor spring in that particular Coastal to a stiff one. Even with the giant inductor, it already pitches pretty OK. I just don't see the point in keeping all that extra line/weight on it, so figured one of these spools would probably be a noticeable improvement.
  5. Which shallow did you get for your Coastal? I have a one Coastal that I pitch with 98% of the time. Wouldn't mind having a shallow spool in it.
  6. There’s nothing wrong with the jump pack, you just needed to use the “manual override” setting. Anytime a battery is below a certain voltage threshold, you need to put the pack into manual override to jump it. If you don’t know how to do this, consult the manual, or give a quick google. I have 6 different NOCO jump packs, and two NOCO chargers in my boat. I’ve had a few of them for 5-6 years. I’ve never had a single issue out of any of them, and I’ve used some of the packs HARD. Even for thing like supplying constant 12V (manual override mode) to trailer winches and other “off label” uses.
  7. Showing out of stock now. Mines too geary for my tastes, but functions great.
  8. I’m 6’6” and 275lbs. I could bolt 6 DCs to a rod and technically not have an “issue” ?. But the MGL is a noticeably more comfortable and nimble on a 7’ composite after one handing squrebills for a few hours.
  9. Nah. You'll be fine. I use 20lb Sniper on multiple jig setups. Sometimes with backing to save a buck, sometimes straight flouro. I never have any issues. I've thrown bladed jigs on Sufix Advance co-poly lately though. Works great.
  10. I browsed, but like 95% of the fishing stuff I clicked on was "excluded from sitewide promo".
  11. Then get the 7'3" MHF.
  12. Agreed on all counts. Although from everything I've read/seen, the Curado DC actually gets a little more distance than the Scorpion DC's I-DC5. (Higher end DC reel's could be a different ballgame) I'm a Daiwa guy, and pretty much fish Zillions these days except for some Shimanos I crank with. My thoughts on these two reels are related to throwing crankbaits on 12-14lb flouro.
  13. It's just a braking system. The same as "SV", "Mag-boost", "MCS", etc, etc... No one needs any of them, but some of them do have their benefits/uses. To be clear, my intention wasn't to pick apart the "DC" system or weigh its value. It was to say that IMO, the MGL 150 is just a better performing reel than the Curado DC.
  14. I just view "DC" like I do any other braking system. I don't think anyone needs it, or doesn't. In my experience, it's far from the "safety net" that some seem to think it is unless you set it on 4 and add some spool tension (which ruins any casting performance). Everyone I fish with with can backlash a DC real just as easily as a traditional reel. The Curado DC's are fine. They fish OK. But the 150 MGL outshines them in all facets IMO.
  15. Warning, there's not going to be much worth reading in this post, lol.... Just putting this out there. I've fished a couple of Curado DC's on my crankbait rods for a over a year now. They're OK once you get used to the "DC", and how heavy they are. But I've been eyeing the MGL 150s since they were released. I finally caved and picked up an MGL 150 6.2 last week and fished it over the weekend. My conclusion is..... Why is anyone still using Curado DC's? The MGL feels WAY lighter and is more comfortable. It was throwing KVD 1.5s and 2.5s further than my DC on the same rod, AND quite honestly, the breaking system is more versatile and more predictable than the DC. I never got more than a few loose loops in 4 hours of fishing squarebills in 12-14 mph wind. I always end up overrunning my DC's a couple of times in similar conditions. On retrieve, they feel pretty much identical. Fairly smooth, with just a hint of "micro" buzz. I don't think I'll be buying any more DC's. YMMV.
  16. Fonts? ETA: Ohhhh, the text on the reel. Yep, the alcohol/solvents in suncreen and OFF will do that.
  17. “Zero adjust” is just a marketing term, and a knob that’s harder to turn. All SV reels should be set up the way @txchaser described. Regardless of whether they have the “zero adjust” “feature”. If you add any pressure to an SV spool via the cap, you won’t be happy with its casting performance.
  18. I don't think that theory holds up. I have a few Coastals with aluminum plates. Only one of which has stayed relatively smooth. Conversely, I still have two regular Tatula 100s that have stayed relatively quiet. I think it's just more hit or miss these days.
  19. Ah, the ole Tatula noise lottery. Many will play, few will win. But really, none of the unsupported pinion Tats stay quiet or smooth very long unless you get really lucky. The always do their job, and they keep on tickin (pun intended), but they can definitely be geary. The answer is… Sell it and get a Zillion. As long as JDM Zillion SVs can be had for ~$40 more than Tatula SVs, there’s zero reason to ever consider buying a Tatula SV IMO. As far as uses, a Daiwa 8.1 SV is a great bottom contact, dock skipping, jig pitching reel.
  20. The “star” of my Midway order has to be this knee-jerk two piece rod order. Rebellion 6’10” for $86. (again an “open box” item but wrapped in original plastic with tags) Im not sure why the Rebellions don’t get talked about much. This may be the nicest fit and finished rod I’ve purchased in a long time. It’s flat out beautiful in person. No idea why I thought I needed a two piece rod, but I’m not mad about it.
  21. Ummm.. yea... I have all my fishing stuff delivered to my office. ? Out of sight, out of mind.
  22. Midway order arrived today. The Curado box is definitely a little worse for wear, but doesn't appear to have ever been opened. The seal was still on the box, and the reel is wrapped up like new. So I'm not sure what "Open Box" means at Midway, ha. The 7'4" TFO Glass rod I ordered was the same. In a nice tube, wrapped up with tags, obviously never been out of the plastic. One bent guide, but I can massage that back into place. I'll say though, the TFO Glass rod is not exactly what I was hoping for. It's the MH Glass, but it's a beast. like, I'm not sure casting a Frittside 9 is even going to load it up much at all. It's also anything but "parabolic". The taper is honestly way too fast for it's intended purpose IMO. The blank also has a pretty noticeably curve to the right, so it's definitely not "built on the spine" (which I usually like my more moderate rods to be). It was $70 though. So it is what it is.
