  1. Just ordered the top-of-the-line Gill jacket from there for $210, thanks! I will wait until we can travel to stores for bibs... I really need to try them on with my Chris Farley torso and Barney Rubble legs. thanks again everyone
  2. Nice to know I wasn't the only one. That is exactly what I was thinking this morning... they should have recessed that dial! I may just exchange for another. I did notice that I was able to avoid the issue by changing the grip, but sure enough, I would go right back to palming the way I always have, lol thanks for the comments
  3. Should have mentioned, I am using a Lew's 7'10" MH (moderate tip) with 12-lb fluorocarbon, I was throwing a Strike King 6XD (not 8 or 10 XD). I also failed to mention that I basically monkeyed both settings on each reel, basically all morning, with (likely) all possible combinations covered until I got the longest distance. Have done all of the studying up on how to cast, how much line to put on, etc. I do find it hard to believe that some reels don't cast as far as others, with all else being equal. Thanks for the comments... very helpful!
  4. My son has the Lews BB1, and that is one I was considering. Oddly enough, my buddy uses an old Pro Qualifier, and it it is his deep crank reel as well. thanks
  5. Thank you all for the guidance!
  6. Hi everyone.. I am in the market for a reel that can cast as far as possible, price not really a factor. I read reviews where they say "casts a country mile", but the couple I have purchased cast "OK", but not really anything to write home about. I have seen where Dave Mercer talked about how the Abu Garcia REVO EXD was "designed for long casts", however I also know how marketing can go. Just wondering what some of you out there are getting (truly) long casts for deep cranking-- 45-50 yards (actual yards-- not estimates, not "paces") thanks in advance
  7. Off topic, I know... but I just got a Tatula 150. I am having a problem, when palming the reel after the cast, with my left hand adjusting the magnetic brake knob back a click almost every time I cast due to the location/design of the knob. Do you have this trouble as well?
  8. I talked with a young salesman at BPS a couple of years ago and he was claiming 5:1 was "super slow", and 9:1 was the new norm for fast reels, and 7:1 was "average". I told him I remember back in the 80's where Abu had 3.8:1 and 6:1 was considered "screaming fast". I am sure the fish haven't changed... but went right over his head, lol. I wish more reel models were offered in the 5:1 range.
  9. Willing to pay in the $500-750 range. I agree on the Gore-Tex. When you speak of Frogg Toggs, do you mean that light, papery stuff they first introduced? Or their high-level gear as well?
  10. I did a quick search and could not find anything recent... Want to get rain gear that is better than the traditional Frogg Toggs "paper suits". Been looking at Huk, Navis, and others. Not sure if I trust anything made by Bass Pro Shops/Cabelas as of late. Suggestions? Looking for bibs and a jacket. Not the type who will fish in a downpour for half a day, just want a good set where I can fish in scattered showers, and maybe even survive through a passing storm cell. Price is important, but not really looking to go cheap either. New member here, thanks in advance.
