  1. So what are your opinions. Are carbon (CFX / Forecast) grips more sensitive than EVA or cork grips?
  2. Any "tips" on wrapping the tip top? Although it gets harder wrapping guides as you go towards the tip, Injust can't figure out what the best way to wrap the tip is. It's only supported on one side of it and not very stable. Any help would be appreciated.
  3. How far off the guide foot do you start your wrap? Is it just personal preference or is there a functional reason?
  4. Making for family and friends I think it's more meaningful. Maybe it's just me.
  5. I'm just wondering what everyone is using to hand write on a blank. I know I can get labels, but I like the personal touch of writing.
  6. What are you using, high build or low? Why do you prefer one over the other? If you use both, what are the situations you would use high over low and visa versa. Is it just the look or is it a functional reason?
  7. That's why I was asking the question. I'm kinda lost as to what would be good for that combo. Thanks for the suggestion.
  8. I have a guy that wants a rod built that he can pitch and skip 1/2 oz. jigs. Any blank recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
  9. It's a 7'6", med/hvy, mod/fast action.
  10. I just had a guy drop off a St. Croix Legend Extreme rod to have a hook keeper installed. I didn't know much about this rod, but he told me it's a $600+ rod. What makes this rod so expensive and what would be a comparable rod blank to build this quality of a rod?
  11. So, you don't think removing 3" from the butt will affect the power?
  12. I know it can be and is done all the time, but what is the affect on the blanks action. I'm building a couple of rods. Both blanks are 7', one being fast action and the other is moderate fast action. Both rods a medium heavy power. Because of deck space, I need to shorten both of them at least 3". I don't think taking material of of the butt changes anything in the action, but to what degree will it affect the power?
  13. This is my thought also. I've just heard people talking about adding weight to the rod for better balance. I didn't want to build a rod and find out I wasn't using all this new technology. As I've stated here before, I haven't built a rod for over 40 years and back then there wasn't any talk about balance. It was all about how a rod felt in your hand. Thankfully, it sounds like it's still the same today.
  14. Sorry if this has been discussed before. I haven't seen anything on this topic. I'm just wondering what makes a rod balanced? Is there a specific spot on the rod that the weight is evenly distributed? Should it be balanced from a spot on the reel seat? Is it different from angler to angler? Some like their rods more top heavy or vise versa? Am I over analyzing this? Give me some or you thoughts. Thanks in advance.
  15. All great recommendations guys, thanks.
