  1. It arrived yesterday and it looks and feels great, very light for a glass composite rod. Cant wait to cast with it later
  2. yeah the crankbait rod they sell was only 150 or 160 with SiC guides too, I don't think you will find many rods from other companies using SiC guides on rods under $200. I can only vouch for the crankbait rod I have never heard of the pride rod company, are they good quality?
  3. hey, those who own any, what do you think of their limited offerings? I have only owned the cranking rod with orange accents for 5 or 6 years now, and it's pretty awesome. it says the guides are SiC too, very uncommon for a rod under $200 from what I can tell. it just feels nice in the hand and the fit and finish seems really nice. I like the blank being high gloss, but maybe thats also because it's a glass rod lol. I've heard back then the rods were higher quality or used to be made in USA, something like that. I can only speak for the cranking rod and it's awesome
  4. I guess that's very true for a lot of situations
  5. I mean, I don't own a boat or expensive sonar/fish targeting equipment, but I think just getting out there and discovering what will hit your bait is part of the thrill. I am a bank fisherman, and even if I don't catch anything, I still enjoy walking around and the outdoors. it may be the old school way but I think it's more fun not knowing what is lurking in a body of water and trying to find out
  6. well hopefully it can do the job 😃
  7. yeah I just ordered an expride 7ft 2 glass composite rod can't wait it will be here tomorrow 😎 out of all fishing techniques, crankbait fishing is my favorite
  8. thanks, interesting point about it being important using a two piece rod to achieve the effect. I do own 2 dedicated crankbait rods but I was just curious about this yeah that would be the more critical thing, and like you mention different companies go by different standards. a medium fast rod for one company might be more stiff compared to another's medium fast
  9. hey guys I know there are a lot of rods made specifically for crankbaits, usually made of a glass composite and are typically more moderate action. but can a similar rod perform almost the same? Say for example you have a 7ft medium heavy moderate glass composite rod, but instead you use a 7ft medium fast action rod. does stepping down in power allow the medium rod to have more of a "parabolic" action better suited for using crankbaits even though it is fast action? or do you just simply lose backbone to the rod by doing that and it wouldnt make much difference? I was just wondering about your opinions on this...
  10. yeah I get all that just saying my point is the guy already said he won't reveal the name of the company, for reasons of his own I'm sure, so trying to get him to reveal it isn't going to work just to leave it at that. I have learned on here since joining the forum when someone says they won't mention a brand name or company name, they usually mean it, they just move on with the conversation or different topic etc. that's my point basically
  11. I just said sea guard because I remember seeing some rods at the store with that brand advertised on the tag, but I could still be and probably am completely wrong about the brand he was referring to. Yeah it's important to help people, I agree but he only said their titanium frames tend to break. he was not implying shady business practices or the bad morals of the company by deceiving people with false advertising or anything like that....you kind of took it to an unnecessary/unrelated level for some reason
  12. I can't confirm or deny anything, but I know of rods equipped with "sea guide" brand guides. he did not mention that brand....but I am not expecting an answer because I'm assuming he wants to stay respectful and not smear a company's name which I completely understand
  13. yes alconite is solid, but if a rod is not overpriced and has fazlite instead it's still pretty nice. Just something about the blue/grey color lol..
  14. i have seen the recoil guides only a few times browsing rods online, it seems they are very rarely used on rods, and the rods they are used on seem to always be very expensive. why is this type of guide used on high end rods? are the guides expensive, or are they just not as popular as typical guides with an inner ring?
  15. oh ok valid points there, I guess it can be said pretty much anything Japanese made is going to be high quality. Japan is a leader in the fishing industry after all but I also hear Sweden or Finland is too
  16. that's interesting, another guide that people don't mention much is Fazlite. it's not the premium one but they still seem pretty nice....by the way your "woah son" thing at the bottom reminds me of what I hear roland martin say sometimes when he is catching fish in his videos lol 😄
  17. is that a Japanese company or Finnish or something? I'm not familiar with guide manufacturers
  18. interesting points..so would it be safe to assume that you believe Fuji guides are the best quality guides on the market ? I'm not even sure who the competitors would be honestly, i don't buy components or build custom rods
  19. My first 3 largemouth this year, I lost 2 trying to set the hook too early. only 1-2 pounds but still happy I pulled them in 😎
  20. hey guys, back from my break and will start getting into my fishing again, hope everyone is doing well, just wanted to ask a question or opinion question...between rods made with Alconite, SiC, or Torzite guides, how much of a difference can really be felt in terms of smoothness? I only own rods with maybe Alconite guides so I can't really compare myself. it seems like they would all "perform" very comparably, but can the difference really be felt or noticed?
  21. hmm that is an interesting idea, and as we know braid lasts a long time too
  22. yeah I get your point, unless they released testing footage or data which I didn't see. when they arrive i will do a "pull test" myself to get a general idea of how much muscle I need in order to straighten it out
  23. the bass or panfish i usually encounter in my fishing areas are probably from 1-5 pounds, so i guess 12lb breaking strength is sufficient. I was wrong to order the small rings at 7lb break strength...they feel like they give out too easy. good thing i didn't spend a lot on them 😅
  24. I agree, I did a pull test myself and it didn't take much strength for me to bend it out...so I ordered slightly larger ones with 12 pound rating break strength, these should be ok
  25. I bought another pack of split rings, they are slightly larger and say rated for 12 pound breaking strength, I'm assuming these are suitable without problems
