  1. I haven’t fished a plastic worm in close to 20 years. I’m specifically talking about the 10” arena of plastic worms. Are these best fished as a T-Rig hooping on the bottom or as a slower straight retrieve? I’ve ordered three packs of googan mondo worms in 10” in watermelon red, Red flake, and June bug. I’m really excited to see what I can do with them, but I keep finding myself wondering what the best method would be. I feel they are too long for my shaky head setups so I think T rigging them with a 3/8oz weight and a 4/0 hook would be good for some action. Maybe a lighter weight or even weightless? What is your experience with worms this length?
  2. I own one old(12 years) quantum spinning reel from Wally World that is still going strong. Haven’t had another since though.
  3. I completely understand friend. The lews reel I bought was amazing out of the box. The retrieve is still the smoothest I have ever felt to the point that I have to look down while retrieving to make sure the spool is in fact moving. The cast however....sounds like an electric weed eater that is wide open on throttle when casting. A very Geary sounding “WEYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY”. The side plate doesn’t want to close completely either. It snaps shut for sure but there is a bit of flex and play in it where it doesn’t mate up to the side of the reel. I’m thinking I’m gonna send it to lews and see what they can do. My other Abu’s and my one Tatula 100 are perfect. I understand that there are duds in everything, but this was mostly a reminder to not venture away from what I know.
  4. I am particularly fond of the older round reels as well as the newer model Revo line. I recently bought two Revo SX’s from bass pro on sale and one of them ended up being a dud so I swapped it out for a Lews tournament SLF and I can’t stand it. I wish I had just swapped it for another Abu.
  5. Picked up a new Abu Garcia ALX bc in 6.4:1 from sportsman’s outfitters for $129.99. Told the wife it was too good of a deal to pass up.
  6. There’s gotta be something in it for them.
  7. 1) Abu Garcia 2) Daiwa
  8. I think it’s hit or miss possibly.
  9. This topic literally made me go check the three bags of finesse worms I have from YUM and all three look like they have a couple ounces of oil in the bags lol I don’t remember that when I bought them a few months ago. My 20+ bags of Zoom finesse/trick/curly tail worms and all bags of craws do not have any oil in them.
  10. I absolutely love helping my local shop like that. Their prices on tackle is only pennies on the dollar more expensive than Walmart plus they sale Used older reels for really good prices. For example, I picked up two older Abu round reels (5000D series) in pretty great shape for $50 a piece a couple months ago. Those will be my catfish rigs. I haven’t pushed for a discount on anything as they normally surprise me with their prices already especially when they have a huge tote of clearance prices soft plastics mostly a dollar a bag or so of YUM and Missile baits. They don’t really have the hugest selection of stuff as they are a small setup, but they are good people and always love to conversate especially at the gun counter.
  11. I asked this exact question when I bought my first bait caster this year and got some great advice here! DVT should be here shortly to give you some good insight.
  12. I too was wondering this because I nearly have a whole five gallon bucket full of bagged soft plastics that I will need to figure something out with. The Walmart shoe tote looks to be a good route.
  13. I haven’t had any luck on swim jigs with any trailer. Match the hatch or swapping it up hasn’t produced anything for me....yet.
  14. I’ve had some good luck with those too lol
  15. Yeah I mean there are a lot of opportunities around, but a lot of that is land that is owned privately or isn’t passable for me. Bridges with those culverts and other piping cover I have no clue where they are. I’m not originally from the area my wife is so I’m still learning the land so to speak.
  16. Noted lol my man cave is ten times or more what that bag holds maxed out.
  17. I wish I had places like that to fish in my AO.
  18. They are in the same Plano box as the jigs I just forgot to mention them. I will admit that I have only caught one small pound and a halfer on a spinner this year so they really don’t see much priority over the plastics which are steadily serving me well. I have a maxpedition gear slinger that I have thought about changing everything over to, but I keep talking myself out of it because I Keep wanting to fit all the same stuff into the smaller maxp bag and it constantly doesn’t work lol ten pounds of stuff in a five pound bag cliche type of deal. That and I can make up every excuse in the book to pack upwards of ten packs of plastics and all three of those trays along with other “possibles”. Edit: The few times that I have attempted to downsize my current bag to just the stuff that I know I will use, my wife ends up wanting to use one of the lures that I had taken out the night before. It never fails. So I try and keep up with what she wants to use as well. I think my bag clocks in at around eight pounds(ish).
  19. What do you guys take with you? I take my backpack whether bank or boat as it carries what I use primarily very easily. I bank fish mostly as well. Here’s my load out: I am primarily a plastics fisher because it is simply more enjoyable for me. The KVD senkos are for wacky rigging as well as the smaller pack of Zoom Houdini Magnum’s. The Reaction Innovations Spicy Beavers were a sleeper hit on the water for me as I had never even heard of them prior to buying a pack just to give it a try. My wife didn’t want me to open up the Plano trays because of the cats we have and hooks and stuff. One tray is terminal tackle with shaky head jigs and T-Rig off set hooks of all sizes and bullet weights. The other is full of different swim jigs/skirts/trailers and the other is a bit of top water and crankbaits. Items not pictured are a ziplock bag with a roll of toilet paper(in wife’s car) and a can of sunscreen as well as my water bottle. The items in this back are always changing of course especially the different plastics. I do need to pick up a couple spools of fluorocarbon To keep as well. Nothing like a bird nest that ruins an existing spool so bad that it has to be removed and not having anymore on hand.
  20. This is exactly why I am a fisherman and not a hunter. I do go hunting sometimes, but not with the enthusiasm as I do for fishing. I can bank fishing in my honey holes all day long in nearly triple digit heat and not catch anything and feel like I had the adventure of a life time every time. I cannot for the life of me fathom why folks want to sit in a tree or blind in (insert cold temp.) and struggle to suppress a cough or not let that fart slip out. I don’t have that problem while fishing lol
  21. Just today for example, the wife and I went to a local spot where there were a few other people. The other folks were very distant to us somewhat so it initially wasn’t a bother until they brought their kids out to the bank and the screaming and hollering started. Gunfire does not pierce the air like a screaming child does. The two kids(boy and a girl) were crying and screaming because they couldn’t pet the ducks that were in the middle of the river so they started acting out and getting louder. We packed up and left a few minutes afterwards because that is one thing I will not set through.
  22. Admittedly I was both intrigued and skeptical of the T Wing system aperture prior to trying it. Can I tell you exactly what the T wing offers or improves on over the standard line guide? Nope. I have noticed that the Twing doesn’t hold on to the residual “goop” that floats on the water after retrieval. By no means am I saying it’s a deal breaker to have a standard guide do that, but I have noticed that my spool of fluorocarbon does not retain that brown color from the water. My tatula 100 feels leaps and bounds more quality than my Lews tournament LFS that I bought at bass pro.
  23. Exactly right. I have particularly found my “quality comfort zone” in the $100-$150 dollar range for reels and roughly $80-$100 range for rods. I have worked a lot of overtime the last two months to get what I wanted in that range and it works well for me. Found an Abu Garcia ALG low profile reel on sportsman’s outfitters for $129.99($250 reel) and bought it without hesitation. Deals are there so long as you look and are patient. Now I just have to find a rod...
  24. I thought the magforce didn’t start until the Tatula models?
