  1. Sorry guys, this has probably been covered several times before but I could not find any info in previous posts. I am curious to know if the type of jig head matters. Can 1 type of jig be used for all different situations(open water or heavy cover). I am going to stock up and would prefer to only have to buy one style of jig.
  2. I just went out and bought another spray bottle, poured it that and it sprayed fine.
  3. checked it and it didn't come loose.
  4. I tried using this stuff on my line and the spray top is not working. The directions said to shake well before using and that is when it stopped spraying. Any advice..
  5. I picked up a bottle of this stuff today at dick's sporting goods. A couple of weeks ago I used reel magic on my line. If I apply this to my line now will it cause a problem because of the reel magic. The website says not to use on line that has been treated with something else. Any advice...
  6. Round valley is a great place to fish. Very deep lake in certain parts. You can catch some monster lake trout in that place....
  7. What special do they have on this stuff for members? How does it compare to reel magic?
  8. If I am using jigs, does it matter what type of baitcaster I am using? It seems that alot of people like to use heavy line, and I have been using 15 lb line on my daiwa procaster. I know it's a low level reel, but I am having trouble using jigs short distances. Casting it is not a problem. I am a beginner at using jigs and trying to get better. I know some of the problem is the fact that I am not a very experienced person pitching a jig. Is a faster gear ratio better for this type of fishing?
  9. I have a fiberglass rod that I use for crankbaits, topwaters and spinnerbaits, and I have 12 lb co-polymer line on the reel. Is this ok, or should I use a different type of line?
  10. Do you apply this stuff before you put line on your reel, or after.
  11. Can anyone recommend any good books or videos about bass fishing?
  12. Thanks for the replies guys. It seems like alot of you make your own jigs. How do you do that? What would be the advantage of making your own?Does it cost less to make your own? Where do you get all the materials to do that? Sorry for all the questions..

    Jigs

What's everyone's favorite brand for jigs?
  14. I was thinking in the $50 dollar range. Has anyone heard of sea striker glasses. The reviews on basspro shops seems to be pretty good. The water I fish is usually clear. What color lense would be best for that. Thanks in advance.
  15. Do polarized glasses really make a difference when you're out fishing. If so, can anyone recommend a good pair that's reasonably priced. Thanks..
  16. Thanks for the info. I plan on trying different things. Was just curious about the trout imitators. I plan on getting a new rod and reel specifically for this. The rod I have not decided on yet. The reel, I think i will be going with shimano calcutta te 400.
  17. If you are fishing a lake with no trout in it, can you still use something like the huddleston delux. Does that make a difference?
  18. Thanks for the info. I have been using baitcasters regularly for the past year now and have gotten better at using them. Especially with heavier baits. I guess in my ignorance I thought that certain lures had to be used with a baitcaster, not a spinning reel. When I was fishing yesterday, I switched the lure over to my spinning rod and solved that problem. This info leads me to another question. I have a 6'6" fiberglass crankbait rod, which I use for cranks, topwater, spinnerbaits. Is it OK to use this rod for other applications besides crankbaits. Or should I invest in other rods to handle those other types of lures.I figured when I'm throwing baits that could use an extra split second for the fish to get a good hold on it before setting the hook, I would just use the glass rod.
  19. I was out fishing today and I was trying to throw a small jerkbait. It did not weigh that much. I was having trouble casting it. Are baitcasting reels made to throw lighter weight baits. How do you know what baitcasters are made for these situations. Also, what is the difference between baitcasters that sit low and ones that look bigger from top to bottom. I am still in the beginner stage when it comes to using a baitcaster and I am curious if some of the higher priced reels will help with casting distance or is it the skill of the person using the reel that determines distance? Thanks in advance for the advice.
  20. I have 2 questions for you experts out there: 1) is yo-zuri hybrid ultra soft for spinning tackle only? 2) My local sporting goods store has a new daiwa rojo on sale for 69 bucks. Does anyone have any experience with this reel. Is that a good price for it? Thanks. Oh, by the way, I was down at lake wylie visiting my brother last week and finally caught my first bass on that lake after several visits. Early morning and late night topwater bites were out of control.
  21. I am new to using a baitcaster as well. I am having the same problems as you are. What I have realized is that you have to practice with these things. Using a spinning reel is much easier. What I have done is gone and bought practice plugs and sit in my yard practicing as much as I can when I have the time. Try casting underhand also. I seem to have better luck doing it that way now. The better you get at it the more confidence you will have. But until you get to that point it will be very annoying sometimes. There is a member on this board, reel mech who has a link to his web site. Print out the basic baitcaster set up 101(something like that). It's great advice on how to practice.
  22. Thanks for the input..exactly what I was looking for. You guys ever get anything off of ebay. There are auctions for lucky craft cranks, used, coming straight from japan. If I can good deals off there I might buy them. What's your opinion. Also what brands for spinnerbaits. Thanx.
  23. I went to the store yesterday to stock up on some gear for the season and it was a little overwhelming with all the different choices available. I want to buy some crankbaits, jigs, jerkbaits, topwaters and soft plastics. I would like to try and narrow down the different brands out there I have been seeing. If you had to choose maybe 3 different companies in each category to choose from, who would they be? Thanks in advance for your responses...
  24. Ok guys here's the deal. I went back to the place I bought the reel from, ramsey outdoor, and I told the guy working the fishing dept what kind of problems I was having. He told me to bring the rod and reel in and he would take a look at it. I went home got it and went back. He tied on a 3/8 spoon(rod is a mh, fast action, rated for lure weight of 3/8 to 1 ounce, 10-20 lb line). He starts flipping it behind the counter a good 20 feet easily. He does it several times, no problem. He then says let's go outside and try casting it. Holy crap was he casting this thing a friggin mile. So then I look at him and say ok it's not the reel or the 17 lb test line, it's me. I bought a couple of practice plugs. I tied on the 1/2 ounce plug and start practicing. I am doing exactly what I saw the guy in the shop doing. I can't get this thing to go anywhere. I'm really confused now. Does anybody have any suggestions on how to practice with these things so I can get better at using a baitcaster????
  25. I went to one by me yesterday and they had 20% off on all rapala.
