So there's no detriment to fishing strength or rod durability by using an extension?
Oh, ok that's a rod. I am looking for a blank, but thanks for trying!
Where did you end up @NorthernBasser? My previous punching reel just died on me. Any runners up to the Curado MGL? I don't want to drop that much on a reel that's only used part of the season.
Graphite gets fewer sucker bites according to the father in law, so it must be fiberglass. Also for durability, he's a barbarian when it comes to rods,?.
Yeah, 5wt seems about right, just need to find one in the price range.
My friend's father in law broke his favorite rod (allegedly death by raccoons) and these were basically the specs. As a present, we're trying to recreate it because it was discontinued. It was a Berkley Trout Dough rod.
Fiberglass was the original material and will be used for bluegill, sucker, and carp fishing lol.
For a special project, I am trying to find an 8' ultralight/light 5/6wt 2 piece fiberglass blank with moderate action around or under $50. I found one at Jann's Netcraft but it's backordered until it isn't, lol. So anyone know of another blank that fits this bill?
I'm not saying "don't", but I have three X-rays and I wouldn't even consider a fourth if I was building a Spybait rod. Finesse jigs, sure, but not Spybait, or really any kind of moving bait.
I don't have enough money to treat my gear like it doesn't matter so I am very careful with it. But I also don't have enough money to buy stuff I am not going to use. So I treat it nice but use it fully.
My bass boat is loaded with stuff but my kayak is a simple affair. Two rods, a tray of lures, and a container of soft plastics. I like both experiences for different reasons.
