  1. In addition to having a spare set of bearings and a dedicated floor jack for the trailer, you need to check the trailer spare to make sure its properly inflated and not dry rotted. Also, I would think that you will probably get between half and 3/4 of your normal fuel economy while towing a boat. As someone said above, whoever is supplying the tow vehicle shouldn't have to pay for 1/3 of the gas, or if you did, then they should by you a dinner or something.
  2. Hence the very first phrase, "This is by no means best practice."
  3. I had never broken a rod until this year either and then I broke two in two weeks by high sticking one on a 1lb fish and picking one up off the deck that was under a cleat. I have learned my lesson.
  4. This is by no means best practice, but I have a 13 year old Revo S that does that and I have cleaned it and could not resolve the issue, so I have resorted to the old standby trick of dunking it in the water for 4 or 5 seconds about every 1.5 hrs, lol. works like a champ
  5. I reel spinning reels with my left hand because my dad handed it to me like that when I was 4 or 5 and then when I got to be 10 he threw his right handed ambassador on a rod and said, "when you can cast this you can cast this you cast anything." Old habits die hard I guess because I have tried to use them the opposite and I look/feel like a spaz.
  6. If you want one "do it all" rod, it would be hard to beat a 7' MH. Now whether that is casting or spinning is going to be determined by what you mainly fish. If you are fishing lighter finesse style mostly, but might throw a T-rig with a EWG, I would go with a spinning. If you are fishing bigger baits around any real cover then I would go with the casting. If you can spring for both go with a 7' Med spinning and a 7-7'6" HF Casting that has a little softer tip.
  7. Just started tying crappie jigs, and thinking about getting into the bass jig tying. This may be my first one to try.
  8. As others have said make sure you get the Magnum Super Flukes, you can cast them much better and they generally do catch a better grade of fish. Someone also mentioned fishing a Fluke on a jig head and that reminded of catching some on scroungers.
  9. I would try a weightless Magnum Super Fluke. Your numbers will go down, but you will catch some bigger fish. They are an El Salto stand-by.
  10. I have the President in a 2500 size and really like it, I also have the Lews. Its a wash on quality. I was able to find the President for $25 at Academy so I stocked up on them though.
  11. Good to hear, I'm looking at picking up the St croix premier in a MHM for squarebill/top water, but have also been looking at a Falcon Bucoo
  12. Just from my personal experience, I found 12' to be the max length to haul comfortably in the back of my 6.5' bed. I have hauled 14' jons back there, but it sticks way out. I rarely do it anymore though, because I got tired of having to lug the battery and trolling motor to and from the water to the truck. Now if its a real small pond, a naked jon boat with a skulling paddle is pretty handy or a jointed kayak paddle that you can take down to use as a skulling paddle and make whole for "running" from one end to the other.
  13. How is the action on the Mojo MHF? I have a Mojo in the Slop N Frog which is a HF, but mine feels like a broomstick and should really me a XHXF.
