  1. Isn't that really expensive. When I looked it up its like $20 for 1/4 lb. How many baits will a 1/4 lb do.
  2. Hi I was recently looking through a Facebook group where a guy asked a question about using a lacquer automotive clear coat for his crankbaits. This caught my attention because I was looking for an affordable clear coat for my baits. Some one in the comments said it worked for them so I bit the bullet and bought a quart. I am now experimenting and finding that it is causing the paint to lift on some of my baits. I found that if I do a couple light coats of rattle can clear enamel the lifting is pretty minimal and hardly noticeable. I am just wondering if any of you guys know of any other things I could do to stop the lifting. Another guy talked about using floor wax as a midcoat, so if any of you guys have any experience on that your thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Also if any of you guys know of any other budget options cheaper than kbs could you please share them with me. Thank you, JT Henriksen
  3. Yeah I kind of just wanted to see if I could do it so I could switch rods like this to cork.

  5. I just bought a used fitzgerald stunner hd and the handles on it are a little worn out. I've heard about people replacing handles and I'm just wondering what I would need to do that. The handle is roughly 4.3" and the butt is roughly 2". There is also what I think is called a winding check at the end of each piece and there is a little bit of accent wrapping with epoxy. And help or links to instructions would be greatly appreciated. Thankyou
  6. Better yet. I can get it for $66 on the dot.
  7. Hi I am looking for recommendations for a cheap cranking rod. I don't use crank baits too often so I am looking for one "do it all" rod that I can feel comfortable using at most depths and with lipless baits. I want to spend under $80 for this rod so my options are pretty limited for specialized rods. The rods that I'm looking at are the Dobyns Colt 705cb, the 13 defy black cranking, and the Powell diesel 705cb, and the St. Croix 7'2" MH power in a M action. The Powell will be on sale at TW this month for at least 30% off and I have a way to get a good discount on the St. Croix. If any of you guys have any experience with these rods or know of any other good rods that fit into my budget let me know.
  8. Thank you and the comment about my comment, I had a hard time saying that but I think its true. One of them has a good daiwa rod but then has a 20 year old 1000 series reel that the gears grind when reeling in anything with resistance like a spinnerbait, and the other one has a combo that the reel handle broke on the last trip of the year reeling in a 1 lb bass. I just wanted to get them something that wouldn't break.
  9. The rods they currently have aren't really sufficient for bass fishing so I took MN Fisher's advice and got them each a 7' M abu garcia vengence for $20 a piece and a abu garcia orra s 3000 series for $30 a piece
  10. Thank you for the reply. That's actually works out perfect too because we're from Minnesota so they'll be able to use those rods if they ever go walleye fishing too. Some friends and I are taking a little bit of a road trip down to the pure fishing clearance store in spirit lake, IA tomorrow so I'm gonna try to not buy anything for myself (I don't know if I'll be able too) and get each combo for under 50 with the deals they have there.
  11. Hi. I am a senior in high school whos been fishing in the high school league throughout all of high school. With the pandemic this spring and summer I started taking 2 middle school aged boys out fishing with me and they both seemed to really enjoy it. The only problem is that neither of them have a a good setup, so this year for Christmas I want to get each of them a combo. I just have no idea what kind of setup to get them. I've grown up in a family of fishermen so I've always been able to use my dads rods so I never really felt the constructions of having one rod so I just want to know what kind of setting I should get on their rods. I think im going to get them spinning rods because they have no experience with a bait caster, but would gettimg them a MH be to heavy for that. I know I think a 7' MH rod is the most versatile for casting rods but does that hold true for spinning as well. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you
  12. Thanks for the help. I just got a boat. It's a 14 ft v hull with a 60" beam. I'm just wondering what kind of plywood I should get. Everywhere I look everything I look at that is rated for exterior use is pressure treated. I've seen that I could get marine grade but the price is a little high for me. Is my best option marine grade or is there something a little cheaper that will do the job?
  13. Hi I am a junior and high school from Southern Minnesota and I'm looking into decking a jon boat and I have some questions for people who have some experience in this area. I would like to be able to have another person and myself in the boat and I'm wondering what size of boat I should be looking for? I've read that I shouldn't do anything like a 1436 but then there's tons of videos on YouTube of people doing builds on that platform. Also my budget for the boat is $1000(this is before I do anything to it and I already have a trailer) and I'm wondering if I will be able to buy a used boat big enough with that or should i save up a little more? Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you
  14. PSo with this whole quarantine thing I've gotten into painting crankbaits with my free time. I originally thought that I would be able to just use clear spray paint to clear coat them but I found that when I do that it causes the acrylic paint I use to blister. Because of that I've started looking to other options. I keep reading about 2 ton epoxy but I would need a bait turner to do that. I also read about KBS clear coat, but I have some questions about it. Can I paint it on and the hang it or do I have to dip it. I ask this because I would prefer not to buy enough of it to be able to submerge the bait and then after a couple baits, have the level of the clear lower to the point where I can no longer dip. If you have any tips about KBS or other budget friendly clear options that would be great.
