I was below the Pickwick Dam last Thursday with all the generators on but not spilling, about 85,000 cfs. Didn't see any debris there. Fishing was OK for this time of year.
Nice video, Glenn! Never thought about coconut water.
When I was little, Grandpa would always bring a hard boiled egg. Lots of protein and it comes in it's own package. Doesn't need to be refrigerated either.
I usually bring a lunch meat sandwich or maybe a sub, water, a small energy drink, and maybe a Coke. Also like fruit such as an apple or orange.
What about you? Anything particularly easy to eat?
What do you consider a hotspot? And what are you after? I know this is a bass fishing forum, but around Memphis there are fantastic catfishing opportunities. The Mississippi River has crazy opportunities (and dangers). My PB on the Big Muddy is an 80 pound Blue Cat. And I hooked one much bigger once. Kinda makes bass fishing seem like an entertaining side attraction.
Happened to be in the area yesterday and swung by the Yellow Creek boat ramp. The parking lot was almost completely full with empty trailers! There were about 8 - 10 boats in the water by the docks waiting to go out or go in. It was crazy. All kinds of boats. Pontoons, lots of bass boats, and ski/pleasure boats.
Heard from a friend that fishes Pickwick frequently and he hasn't ever seen so many boats on the lake during the week. I guess folks that aren't working because of the virus are out fishing.
Fishing below Pickwick Dam can get you multiple species. I caught LM, SM, spotted bass, white bass, yellow bass, drum, blue catfish on the same day! Also have caught crappie, bream, sauger, skipjack, and stripers there.
Just joined recently. I live in a Memphis suburb and have been fishing for close to 60 years. Started out going to an annual family fishing trip before I could walk. We always went to Lake of the Woods in Canada and caught walleye and pike.
My introduction to bass fishing was in the late 60's. My Dad was a charter member of the Memphis Bass Club. I remember going to monthly meetings with Bill Dance, Charles Spence, and a few other good fishermen.
Started fishing the Tennessee River below Pickwick dam with a college roommate about 20 years ago, mainly floating minnows.Sometime after that Dad and I started fishing the Mississippi River initially for stripers. Then one day we drifted shad and started catching catfish. Second time out doing this I hooked and landed an 80 pound blue catfish! We did quite a bit if catfishing after that, but would always make time to visit the Tennessee River with my roommate.
