  1. I'm planning on picking up one or two of these rods along with a travel bag to keep on in the truck, or use as a carry on. How many of you have used, and would recommend these rods? Also, assuming I will mainly be fishing for trout/smb/lmb what models would you recommend specifically if I were to choose two to cover my bases? I have grown up using spinning rods, and have never used/owned a baitcaster, but would be open to giving it a shot. Let me know what you think!
  2. Those look like nice rods as well! Yeah, that's the way I'm leaning. I'm currently considering this model of the Orochi XXX jdm line. It's a two piece rod. https://tackletrap.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1066_2409_2411&products_id=10659
  3. Update: Considering looking into 2 piece options because this rod will see more action from shore than my others. I have to travel hours out of town to find a place with decent trout fishing, and most are stocked ponds. This is further complicated by no longer owning a truck, I'd be worried about damage to a 7' rod during transport. I really like the look of the Legend Tournament Walleye Series, but it only has two piece options for ML power rods, which have a luring rating of 1/8 - 3/8 vs. the 1/16 - 1/4 I had been interested in. I'm currently checking out Megabass offerings like the Whipsnake in addition to others that fall within this price range ($200-$300). I had also taken a look at travel rods briefly for this purpose, but a 4 piece rod seems like it could have problems.
  4. For those of you who have recommended or fish st. croix rods, how much of a difference will I feel between their various lines when handling a similar power/action rod? I've noticed light action F/XF rods in several of them, such as premier, avid, tournament bass/walleye, trout, etc. Even the 4 piece Triumph travel rod looked interesting.
  5. I appreciate the feedback, that sounds like a great rod! I'm surprised an extra fast tipped rod performs that well with trebles, I was under the impression more moderate actions are used for that purpose. I guess that's counteracted by the light power of the rod? Also, the rod is rated for 1/16oz - 1/4oz lures, in your experience is that range accurate? Looks like St. Croix's are pretty popular on the lighter power scale. I'll add the premier to my list to check out! Thanks for the input!
  6. Received a second Stradic ( own a 2500 FL ) as a present recently, and haven't decided where it would best be put to use. I've been considering a trout/small mouth rod or something similar for inline spinners and the like, but don't really have a strong opinion. What size/power rods should I be investigating that would balance alright with a 6.5 oz reel? Bonus: What would you pair this reel with ( in your own arsenal )? Reel stats: ITEM CODE MONO LINE CAPACITY (#TEST/YD) WEIGHT (OZ) BEARINGS GEAR RATIO RETRIEVE PER CRANK (IN) POWERPRO BRAID (LB/YDS) MAX DRAG (LB) ST1000HGFL 2/270, 4/160, 6/110 6.5 6+1 6.0:1 30 10/95, 15/75, 20/65 7
  7. I'm looking to purchase line for a couple of identical spinning rod setups for crankbaits between 1/4 - 1/2 oz. The rods in question are 6'6" Moderate Fast Fenwick's, and the water here is crystal clear (if that matters). These are the lines/diameters I was considering: Yo-zuri Hybrid Ultra Soft #6 / Mist Green / .10 in. | .263mm diameter Sunline Shooter Defier Armilo 11lb / Grey / .108 in. | .274 mm diameter Any opinons/suggestions are welcome!
  8. Hmm. I've been looking into other reels in the range. I'm wondering if I can get away with using slightly lighter line on this rod given my uses. I don't really intend to throw frogs ( no dense vegetation where I'm located ). What kind of line weight do ya'll usually use for topwater lures, spinners, and swimbaits 3/4 oz - 1 1/2 oz or so? On a side note, got both of the rods in today. I can't say I love how the spinning rod feels compared to the others I've recently purchased balance or weight wise, but I'll have to see how I like it once I find a reel for it. I like the feel of the baitcasting rod more, with the exception of the hook holder which is in my opinion poorly located.
  9. Would the 200 be as beginner friendly as the SV?
  10. This will be a multi species rod, striper run a little more than largemouth. Don’t want a 50 yard run on a 40 yard cast to spool me. I’ve had it almost Happen once on a bass rod when I hooked into a 12 lb striper.
  11. Thanks for the feedback everyone. They just dropped to 79.99 as expected so I picked up the 7’3” casting rod, as well as a 6’9” Medium spinning rod. I’ll keep the reel suggestions in mind, I’ll have to figure out what diameter line Okuma uses for its rod guidelines, but I’d like atleast 120-150 yards of line on the reel if possible. I’ll look into the Tatulas for sure, what kind of gear ratio should I be considering?
  12. Hello, in an effort to round out my collection and finally get around to learning how to use a baitcaster I've been looking into the 7'3'' Heavy version of the following rod: https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Okuma_Tournament_Concept_TCS_a_Casting_Rods/descpage-TCSA.html?from=basres It's rated for 1/4 - 2oz lures with a line rating of 17-65 lbs, and I anticipate it dropping down to 80 dollars or so with the TW sale tomorrow. Seems to have pretty good reviews as an all purpose rod, which would be nice as it will be the only rod I own over a 3/4oz rating. I was hoping to throw out spinnerbaits, some top water lures, and swimbaits with the rod. It'll see alot of use in open water for striper and largemouth. Do any of you have experience with this brand, or something with similar line/lure ratings? Also looking for reel suggestions that'll handle 17-20lb mono diameter line. I'm willing to spend 100-150 for the rod and reel individually, so any suggestions in this range are welcome.
  13. I've heard the Fuego has issues with flexing under load. Something to consider, although not everyone seems to have this problem. I have no personal experience with either reel though, so take this with a grain of salt. I'm planning on ordering a couple of Okuma Epixor xt's due to Tackle Advisor's review of them, may be another option to consider. You can also find them at a lower price point than either of the other two reels. However if you're sticking in that price range, I hear that if you can handle the weight, the BG is superior to any of the aforementioned reels.
  14. Wasn’t really all that interested. Just wanted to know what made the rod worth that kind of money 10 years ago. Seems like most of what was offered in it that was “premium” at the time, such as the titanium guides, the light weight, and the sensitivity ratings are common place in much cheaper rods today. I’d be hesitant to buy anything that’s been updated twice without a very deep discount.
  15. Just curious how old tech has held up the past 10 years or so, specifically with the Daiwa Steez thats on sale at TW today. https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/catpage-DAIWAROD.html?from=basres Assuming the price drops sub 300, makes me wonder how this holds up with modern day offerings by megabass and the like in this price range. Anyone have thoughts on the matter?
