  1. All the pieces are never used, all upgrades purchased from Navarre Kayak Fishing. I purchased these with the intention of getting my own Sportsman 120 PDL, but those plans fell through. Everything fits both the 106 and 120 PDL. Includes: - Floating propeller nuts - Flexible locking knob - PDL drive insert - Upgraded PDL steering knob - 1.5" rear seat risers - Upgraded rudder bolt - Replacement stock propeller - Two scupper valve plugs Perfect set of upgrades for an Old Town Sportsman/Topwater PDL owner. Looking for $150 obo, possibly plus shipping depending on location. Worth about $200. I'm local to Denver, CO if you want to pick up. And I want to sell the whole kit together.
  2. Do you think a 2000 size Vanford would pair well at only 5.3oz? Any thought whether the rod would be able to handle 1/8-3/16 or 1/4oz shaky heads in addition to similarly weighted drop shots? From what I've read it seems to handle between a medium-light and a medium, which makes me think it would be good for both of these techniques.
  3. What do you guys think? For use of drop shots, shaky heads, ned rigs, wacky/neko rigs. How does it compare to the 6'10"? What reel would pair well with it? Thanks!
  4. Not to take over the thread but I just had a somewhat related question. For those who use a fishfinder with with yak attack switchblade/cellblok configuration, does it add a bunch of drag to the kayak when you're pedaling? When I get mine I don't mind drilling holes (thats what I did with my Topwater 120 paddle) but the ease of removal of the entire system is definitely a draw for me
  5. So I'm coming up with a bit of a long term goal - purchase an Old Town Sportsman 120 PDL and a trailer to tow it. I currently live in an apartment in Colorado which makes things a little more difficult as far as storage, but they offer covered parking spaces so I figured I can rent one of those to store the trailer with the yak on top of it, and lock everything up so no one steals it. Are there any concerns about storing a kayak on a trailer long term? Will it be okay being somewhat exposed to the elements (albeit under a roof) of Colorado? Anything I should know or be concerned about? I plan on getting a Malone ecolight single kayak trailer that Old Town also sells on their website. FWIW, someone stores their jon boat on the side of the road leading up to the apartment complex, locked up, and I've never seen anyone mess with it. So I'm not super concerned about someone trying to nab it. Thanks!!
  6. I've used it, its quality and shipped fast IIRC
  7. I've caught trout on a 1/4oz bitsy bug jig. Snakehead on a shakyhead Numerous catfish on cranks
  8. When I had it, I used the side and top bags for soft plastics and accessories, and the main body of it for tackle boxes, granted I had a bit more space to keep them attached with a sit on top kayak and it minimized what i needed on the "deck". Hope it works out for you.
  9. I'm almost certain I did. It was a tiny neighborhood pond that I fished very often because it was nearby. Never caught anything over a pound and a half over the 3 years or so I fished it, but one day caught a five and a half pounder on a spinnerbait. It was crazy to see nothing big for years, and then out of nowhere a monster
  10. Not sure if its exactly what you're looking for, but I used something like this for a while when I had my kayak. It fits into a standard milk crate, and it has a shoulder strap you can attach to carry it with you outside of a crate. I thought it was a good solution to being able to keep my tackle together regardless of if I'm on the yak or beating the bank, and you could totally bring this thing onto a boat with you too. I only ended up getting rid of it when I upgraded to a blackpak and realized I like a backpack style better than a shoulder bag when I'm hitting the bank. Gonna invest in a Shimano Blackmoon backpack soon for the bank-beating I think.
  11. Does anyone have opinions on these rods? I was thinking of making one my next purchase for more finesse stuff than I use my Dobyns Sierra 693 for (so light shakyheads, ned rigs, drop shots, wacky rigs, small swimbaits, things of that nature). I'd consider either the Megabass Levante or Orochi XX as they both have the "shakyhead" model, but the ALX Maestro seems very similar and the price is right in the middle. I currently have an ALX Zolo Deputy I use for jigs and texas rigs (1/4-1/2oz) which has really impressed me with its sensitivity, but have never used a megabass rod. Just looking for opinions from people who have used either one of the three. And while I'm at it, what reel would you pair with these? I was thinking a Daiwa BG 2500 with either straight 8lb braid, or braid to light fluoro leader. Thanks! Appreciate the input!
  12. I also drive a CRV ('05) and think its great. Had to buy aftermarket roof rack cross bars because mine didn't come with any, but I'm 5'6" and had no problem loading my 12' kayak on top. I use straps that hang from the ceiling to store my rods, there are spots for 5 but I can lay more on top. Leaves the trunk and back seats open for storage and/or people
  13. This is the right answer IMO
  14. Got one on a frog years ago, fishing a super shallow pond absolutely covered in lily pads. Had a huge blowup. Caught some decent bass out of there too, one of my favorite spots to fish. I picked up a large branch and did what I could to get leverage to get the hooks out without getting my hands near its mouth, but after a long struggle and the hooks not budging a bit I had to cut my line. I still think about that sometimes, I feel awful about it.
  15. I've done it and caught fish, but it definitely isn't ideal. A medium rod just doesn't have the power for good hook penetration especially if you're in heavy vegetation.
  16. This is super helpful, thanks a ton! I like that idea of using the 743 for topwaters, and having a cheap combo in the car at all times just in case you find something that looks juicy.
  17. I haven't fished or posted here in quite a while, but I'm determined to get back into it. Mental health is no joke, but now I'm feeling better and want to do a bit of spring cleaning and organizing of my gear. I have my staple rods and reels, but I also have some that I've accumulated over time and don't know exactly what to use them for at this point. I'd also like input on what I should be using my staple combos for to maximize chances of success and enjoyment. Hopefully this doesn't end up being too long, but I'd appreciate the input! Okay, to start off, my staple rod and reels. These are combos that I've purposefully put together and want to keep together, but also make sure I have the right idea of what I should be using them for. Spinning: Daiwa Kage 6'8" medium/fast "Jerkbait" w/ Daiwa Legalis 2500 Jerkbaits, but what kind? Size? Hard/soft? This is a rod I haven't used much as I don't fish jerkbaits often, so I never really figured it out. Are 110s ideal on this rod? Flukes? Smaller sized hard jerkbaits? What line do you recommend? Dobyns Sierra 6'9" medium/fast w/ Daiwa Regal Airbail 2500 General "light/finesse" gear. Weightless t-rig/wacky worms/senkos, light weight worms (less than 1/4oz), shaky heads, drop shots. Casting: G. Loomis IMX Pro 7' medium-heavy/fast "843 MBR" w/ Shimano Curado MGL 7.4:1 "Do-all" rod. If I bring just one rod it's this. Spinnerbaits, chatterbaits, t-rigs, jigs, small swimbaits/paddletails, cranks in a pinch Dobyns Champion XP 7' medium-heavy/moderate-fast "705CB" w/ Shimano Curado 6.4:1 Cranking stick. Low/medium diving squarebill crankbaits, lipless crankbaits(?), do people use this for spinnerbaits/chatterbaits too? ALX Zolo Deputy 7'1" medium-heavy/fast, Shimano SLX 8.2:1 Jigging/texas rig rod. Up to 1/2oz, mostly 1/4, 5/16, 3/8. Dobyns Champion XP 7'3" heavy/extra-fast "736C", Daiwa Tatula 8.1:1 Frogging/flipping/pitching/punching stick. 1/2oz up to 1.5oz weights I feel like with these combos I have most of my bases covered for the bank/kayak fishing I do. The only thing I feel like I'm missing is something for big swimbaits (which I have never tried fishing) and something for real deep cranking, which I didn't previously have a use for but may now as I've moved from the east coast out west to Colorado. And then I have the rods and reels that I've used at one point or another, but aren't in my general rotation. I'm considering selling them unless anyone here can put together a combo for a good purpose or use case. Rods (all casting): Abu Garcia Silver Max 7' medium-heavy/fast Duckett Micro Magic 7' medium/moderate "Cranking" Dobyns Fury 7'3" heavy/fast "734c" Reels (also all casting) Abu Garcia Silver Max 6.4:1 Daiwa Fuego 6.3:1 Daiwa Fuego 7.3:1 Daiwa Fuego 8.1:1 Shimano Citica 6.3:1 And that's everything. So like I said, I'm sort of looking for confirmation that I'm using my current combos for their ideal applications, and then possible uses for everything else. Thanks in advance!
  18. If you can't afford to pay your employees a livable wage for a full weeks work, you shouldn't be in business.
  19. Frankly, $18 an hour is poverty with how expensive everything is nowadays. I'm not surprised he's not getting any applications. Especially from younger people like me who were told over and over growing up to go to school, get good grades, get into a good college and work hard to graduate only to be met with jobs that pay less than $40k a year. The sentiment that nobody wants to work any more couldn't be more wrong, people just don't want to work a job that breaks their body for tick poor compensation.
  20. Hey y'all, I just recently moved across the country from Delaware to Colorado and am looking to meet some people to fish with and learn spots to get on some bass. I'm north of Denver, around the Thornton/Northglenn area. Any tips or info would be appreciated!
  21. Today my new Shimano Curado 150MGL was delivered, so I took it to Cabela's to get some line and since I was there I decided to get it spooled up. I just recently moved and my tools for spooling line are in a box somewhere, so I figured it would be easier to just get it spooled while I was there. The man doing the spooling is a little older, and having a bit of trouble getting the line tied onto the reel correctly, so he asks his coworker for a hand who then walks off to help somebody else without so much as a response to the man who was helping me. Then the man who is helping me seems to get it figured out correctly, eventually, but as soon as he steps on the lever to start the spooling machine my reel flies off and gets a small gash on the surface of the reel. I saw it happen, but wasn't able to get a good look at the reel until he was finished spooling it. All said and done, the reel has line on it and the scratch is just cosmetic, but I'm still annoyed that my brand new reel now has a scratch in it because the guy at Cabela's wasn't able to attach it to the machine correctly. Am I wrong in being annoyed?
  22. That's another thing, I recently moved and have no idea what to expect as far as fishing conditions. Used to live in Delaware fishing lots of small ponds with lots of grass so braid was almost a must. Just moved into Colorado, haven't been fishing yet but I figure braid + leader will give be enough versatility to figure it out
  23. I recently ordered a Curado MGL 150 to pair up with my IMX PRO 843mbr, but I can't decide what to spool it up with. I intend for this to be a multi-purpose rod, throwing anything from senkos to spinnerbaits/chatterbaits to small soft swimbaits. Sorta a bring one rod and go type of situation. What would you spool it with? 30lb braid to leader when needed? Is 30lb too big for the MGL spool, even though its the 150 size? Thanks!
  24. I have one, it's honestly one of my favorite rods. I use it for texas rigs and jigs from 1/4 to 3/8 or 1/2oz, great sensitivity and I find it balances fairly well with my Shimano SLX.
  25. Not something I have a lot of experience with but maybe check out the Megabass Flap Slap
