  1. Where's the best place to find a co-angler? Fishing Tuesday night bass at Geist most weeks. I've got a boat but am still learning. Open to another person my skill level or if someone experienced doesn't have a boat, I'm willing to learn and let you call a lot of the shots.
  2. 1. Fish the Moment - As far as teaching, no other channel comes close and I put it in here because it is clear Jonny absolutely loves what he does (fishing). Randy too. 2. Richard Gene the Fishing Machine. A simple, humble approach to fishing and the guy knows his stuff...a really skilled angler. I love how he appreciates each fish...it's comical after awhile as every one is a "Beautiful fish" but he'll gently release them opposed to the drop kicks half the guys do. 2. NDYakangler. I'll put this on when I want to go to sleep peacefully. So calming. 3. Greg Blanchard, though his videos are getting a bit too "produced." 4. Realistic Fishing. Simple vids, funny personality. 5. Catfish Dave. Quite a character with a dry simple humor. All the videos are about the same but I just get a kick out of them. Edit: I stand by that these are in response to the original post - people who love to fish. Sure I've got others but they didn't make the cut for that criteria.
  3. It was really all throughout days 2, 3, and 4 of Bassmaster Elite at lake fork. They dont show what hes doing in full, but you can piece it together over time little bits here, little bits there.
  4. Thanks for the reply. I suppose that settles it. Back to the TM. Yes he made it look easy but that was incredible. I went out today and made a lot of progress. I noticed on his graph the gain was quite high compared to where I was. I normally ran blue color but turning the gain up to 75 to 78 in amber worked well, and I could see lures further. I also set color gain to 100 percent. I had the range at 70 ft and I could see a 10xd and some other lures that far out, but I couldn't see a jerkbait past about 20 feet, so I'm still not sure how he was seeing them so far. The returns were just a lot smaller. But even with the above, it was still a struggle keeping the lure in the cone with the pole mount. I need 3 hands! And nice catch btw!!!
  5. I know this has been a hot topic the past week in the fishing world. But it does go to show that operating one of these units takes quite a bit of skill. The first time out with mine, it was clear it is nowhere near as easy as it looks. I am getting better, but Patrick has this nailed down so I want to learn from what he was doing, which he obviously doesn't explain. I was wondering if anyone watched and can confirm what I saw. For setting it appeared to be in forward mode on the amber color. From what I could see, he obviously has it on the trolling motor, not a pole mount. He then has spot lock keeping him in a spot, but when he casts, he shuts the TM off and then uses the foot pedal to keep his lure in the cone as he drifts a bit. Most of the time it looked like he was casting into the wind. After hes done, he jogs back up to his spot. Was this what you guys saw? I've been using spot lock with a pole mount but with any light wind, I dont see my lure for more than a few seconds in the cone. Shutting the TM off and just mounting it on the TM and using it as foot control sweep seems pretty good. I just would like another's opinion before I rerig the dang thing.
  6. What lb do you recommend? I got that size from a chart here.
  7. Also, bonus question - I used a Keitech on the war eagle. I have another one that has a trailer hook. Do you use a trailer when you have a trailer hook? Seems like it would not work...
  8. I've been slowly working through different types of lures. Tonight I tied on my first buzzbaits. It was awesome! I got bit within seconds - small fish. Then the problems began and I started spewing money. I'm using 20 lb braid with a palomar knot. I was throwing a 3/8 warpig/wareagle whatever it is with a 3.something Keitech. When I got hit by a second fish, it broke off instantly (felt bad for him...). I figured I messed up the knot somehow, but it's the only knot I tie and I haven't had any other problems in the past. I tried again with a Booyah Squelcher and at one point backlashed a bit hard and zoom it went off the line. Does anyone know what's happening? Is 20 LB braid too thin, or is it slipping or something? I've been using fluoro leaders on my T-rigs and swimbaits.
  9. Hey thanks for the feedback. Sounds like I'm not too paranoid and I'll just keep getting used to it. Much appreciated!
  10. I got my first boat last year. In that year I came up the boat ramp with the trim down, broke off the rear transducer when my transom hit the riff raff, got stuck at the ramp for 10 minutes because my kill switch was off, came in at a slight angle and nailed one of the trailer tailights/cracked it. Nice scratches on boat too...good thing I bought used. Just last week I hit a sandbar going slow. Luckily no serious damage yet besides the transducer mount. Motor seemed OK after coming up the ramp a few feet. Anyone wanna go with me next weekend? Who knows what I'll do next.
  11. Just feedback on the Vibe. It's a decent Kayak, just heavy. I'm selling mine. After using it 10-15 times, it's just too hard on my back. I'm going to look into a peddle kayak if I get another. Looking at the Native but they are pricey. Anyway, my advice is go as light as possible.
  12. I got my first boat last year and have learned a ton. It's a Lowe FM 165 V Hull, so I know it sits higher than a lot of bass boats out there. The only thing I'm not clear on is whether I can handle wake waves along the sides or at the transom. When I'm out on the main lake fishing and I get wakes coming by from pleasure boaters, I try to swing my nose towards the wave. How much do I need to be worrying about these? I feel like I spend a lot of time worrying about those waves rather than fishing, and if I can just take them at my transom without a worry then I'll quit messing with it. I did have a big wake hit me at the back corner late last year before I started doing this. I'm not a great judge but I think maybe it was 2ft-2.5ft. The first one was fine but the second one seemed like it would cut the wave but it didn't. By the 3rd or 4th roller I'd been moved about 20 ft and almost slammed a dock. After that I've been paranoid.
  13. Total noob question. I've only used a baitcaster for a season and love it, but any time I want to pop the rod or jump a jig my slack line is getting caught on the last 1-2 eyes of my rod. Gotta stop everything and undo it with my hands most of the time. Is this common and a technique problem? I've searched high and low for the solution and haven't found a thing.
  14. Wow thank you so much. Just to be clear, the green circles are in this snapshot? I have attempted the Carolina rig and a big football jig with rage bug in the yellow area after witnessing the same. Morse is very heavily fished and I can see at least some type of fish holding on sonar in this area. But I was told by a fellow angler it was a waste of time.. so I let that go. Everything you're saying makes sense so I'm going to give it a fair shot. Any tip on how to work something like this? Sit on top of the flat and just cast in a circle? Or approach the flat from all different directions and not go on it?
  15. You're definitely right. Only reason I have been avoiding worms is because the water is very stained....was trying to use other things with more action or noise. What worm setup do you recommend for muddy water? Plastic worms...how slow are we talking? I definitely feel like I move it slow, twitching and letting it fall, but I dont let it sit for more than 1 to 2 seconds. Pretty stained lake but I'll probably still give it a go. Have not tried drop shot though. Will look into that! Thank you!
  16. Long story short. Grew up fishing occassionally, usually with orange pumpkin worms. Bought a fishing boat this year so have been pretty serious about it. Probably been about 12-15 times now since August 1. I'm at a loss as to what I'm doing wrong. I have caught one bass on an orange pumpkin (of course) only because I swear I hit the poor fella right on the noggin! I tell you guys...I dont think I am clueless. I have watched hours of YouTube vids from BassResource and other instructional. I have thrown a t rig, Carolina rigs, crankbaits, tubes, topwater. I know we are in the fall transition...I look for bait fish, points and pockets, throwing shad colors, etc. I am fishing Morse Reservoir north of Indianapolis. Watched a guy today go fish the same spot I was fishing and pull out two with the same spinnerbait. An older guy came up to me after and asked me if I tried by the dam. Yes. Did you use worms? Yes. How about crankbaits on the points. Yes. Anything anyone suggests I seem to have tried. I use braid on my reels...starting to wonder if the fish can see it but I hear that's a myth. Also wondering if I'm doing something wrong with the boat or trolling motor...freaking the fish out or something. Does anyone remember some newbie mistakes you used to make and maybe I'm making them?
