If I was honest with myself, I'd be able to only carry three colors in any soft plastic:
- junebug
- green pumpkin
- white
And that's pretty much in order.
I've caught on other colors, and I keep that stuff around just in case, but it stays at the bottom of the bag.
Interesting.
One of my silent gripes about spinning rods is that so few have any useful grip area above the reel seat. And that's because I choke up on the rod as far as I can – there is so much more control up there.
Soft plastic colorways are like fashion trends, people fall in and out of love with them on a cycle. Eventually, even my beloved junebug will fall out of style.
Some of my most fun (if not productive) days on the water have begun with me finding a bag of some random worm/thing that I forgot I owned in the bottom of my backpack and thinking "what the hell? let's give it a shot."
You can learn a whole lot on days like that.
Losing production of a favorite color crankbait sucks.
I still mourn the loss of one specific colorway on the academy house brand lipless. Still haven't found anything that'll replicate the confidence I had with it.
Plastic worms are about all I catch smallmouth on.
little TRDs
finesse worms
trick worms
curlytail worms
They all seem to work just fine for me. As long as they're purple.
Bean's favorite show is birds and squirrels in the feeder that's suction cupped to one of the living room windows.
I'd give anything to watch her come face to face through the window with a big ol raccoon. She loses her mind when another cat comes onto the porch.
