  1. Anyone on here from the NoVA area? I recently moved here and I've been exploring the area, but will be pretty much clueless on where to go in the Winter as some of these reservoirs start to close until the Spring! I'm bound to a pedal Kayak and the bank, but would love to share some information if anyone is out there!
  2. Thanks everyone for the replies As of now it is still all up in the air. I've been thinking and might try and either sell or trade the Ranger for a F150, that way I'll get decent mileage and still be able to tow a 17-18' boat with a little more ease.
  3. Hey, I see your from Massachusetts. I'm from there too, but I came down south for college and fishing, because this is where it's at. I'm on NC State's team, I don't think any colleges in MA have teams yet, not enough interest in bass fishing. good luck man
  4. Hey, I currently own a 4x4 Ford Ranger v6 3L and am looking to buy a cheap used bass boat to get me started. I'm looking to get a fiberglass boat, I've already been through the aluminum stage. My problem comes with the fact that I'd have to tow my boat 14 hours up the coast twice a year (to school and back home for summer), these trips would be over a two day period so it wouldnt be a straight 14 hour drive. Do you think it would be possible for me to tow a 17' Bass boat with my current truck? I know I should upgrade the vehicle, but being in college I cannot do both at the moment. Thank you
  5. Tell him that the bass in that given body of water are poisonous and known to be deadly for humans to consume due to radioactive materials laying on the bottom of the lake.... ;D Or, just explain how catch and release allows the growth of trophy sized fish and gives you the chance to catch it when it grows bigger. Bass tend not to grow while sitting on a dinner plate.... I'm 100% catch and release but I see no problem with someone keeping a COUPLE of bass as long as they are abiding by the rules and the lake has a healthy population.
  6. They aren't neccessarily "rules" but rather tips or guidelines. Obviously the bass do not read the same articles and magazines as us, we're the ones trying to figure them out after all and since they are wild, living, creatures, you can never predict what they will do and be 100% correct all of the time. This is why there really are no "rules" on what to use in order to catch bass. With muddy water I'd go with darker colors anyways. It's easier for bass to find a dark silhouette in muddy water which is why I'd stick with something as close to black as possible, or something that gives out big vibrations like a colorado spinnerbait in muddy conditions. Pink and Chartreuse work better with slight stains IMO.
  7. Hah, that must have stung for a while I've set the hook on a small bass and had the rod nail me in the forehead, knocking my hat into the water and nearly throwing myself out of my small 8' basshunter ;D
  8. No one has even got close yet? That's it, I'm changing all my guesses 1: 3.5lbs 2: 4lbs 3: 3lbs 4:3.75lbs ;D
  9. I'd say the original picture on the first post of this thread weighed somewhere between 3 1/2 and 4 1/2lbs. I'd just go ahead and call it 4lbs even. She's definately not a 5lber but at the same time she's bigger than a 3
  10. 1: 6-02 2: 5-01 3: 5-10 4: 5-07
  11. Tritz, I'd try topwater frogs around any weeds you can find for starters. I'd then try a wacky rig or weightless texas rigged worm in shallow water and then working deeper until you find the fish. If nothing else prevails, try using a spinnerbait and look for a reaction strike, this could give you an idea of where fish may be holding.
  12. Hey everyone, Recently recieved some money for birthday/high school graduation and the amount that is not going into the bank I'll be using to purchase a new spinnerbait rig. I'd like to know what type of line is best for spinnerbaits, I've been using braid in the past but that's only because I've been fishing them with my heavy duty froggin' rod. I'll be buying a Shimano Citica paired up with a Loomis Spinnerbait rod or a Carrot Stix. I fish spinnerbaits pretty much everywhere including through lily pads and in both murky and clear water. What type of line do you use and what lb test is best suited for nearly all applications? Thank you
  13. Buckmanjr is the ultimate sportsman; even though he caught probably one of the biggest bass to be photographed in a while from Massachusetts, he still went ahead and released it after taking the photos. 8-)
  14. Hey everyone, finally got on some good fish. Found a shallow pond that is just ON FIRE right now. Over the past couple of days I've fished it in my little BassHunter Jon boat for a total of 5 hours and caught around 100 bass. It's so productive that I may try and buy a 1 or 2GB memory card for the camera and start having my bro do some filming, maybe make a couple vids. The average size of the bass that I've caught has been 2lbs. Here are some of the better fish... 3lbs 5oz 3lbs 7oz 4lbs 7oz 5lbs 0z 5lbs 1oz 5lbs 5oz 5lbs 13oz
  15. Hey man, Congrats on the qualification, I've been trying to get in contact with you but it seems like we're never on AIM at the same time. I was trying to qualify for the same championship just last weekend but couldn't manage to find any quality fish. Good luck and shoot me an email when you find out if we're rooming together at NCSU, if I find out before you then I'll PM you or something. Peace -Mark K
