  1. Sunline is my preferred Flouro but have yet to exceed 12# but only for casting reels. I won't let Flouro get anywhere near a spinning reel except the last 8 feet.
  2. The big fish hit big baits theory is true more often than not but my only DD bass came on a 4" culprit worm. Still much prefer targeting bigger fish with much less action vs boating dinks all day but let to many hours pass without cooperation from the big mouths......I become a dinkster.
  3. The company start-up is very interesting, actually legit. Have several of the Speed Demon Pro's, rod and reels and very impressed.
  4. Some of these threads have got some age to them and I may have already posted. Lol I don't usually cut corners on gear but also try to stay in the best bang for the buck category . I do carry a time tested, bullet proof Mitchell 300 mated to a lightning Rod but can feel an instant gain in balance and performance when I grab higher end gear. Off balance and a couple of ounces add up on repetitive motion.
  5. I'm a very stubborn fisherman. Predetermine where I'm fishing and tie on what I'm throwing the night before so I don't have to carry as much. Tomorrow for example will be Neds, Neko's and Jerks, nothing else.....2 spinning and 1 cast.
  6. I made a large order of soft plastics, brand name stuff that makes the claim " floating " . Well , I proceed to fill up a 5 gallon bucket up with water only to find these things RACE to the bottom, about as fast as a penny would. These are several big name brand Neko worms. So I'm back where I started with 1 brand that actually floats as all the ones I have could be thrown in an onion bag and make a great anchor. Can anyone recommend a true floating Neko worm that actually floats. Oh and can you throw it in water before recommended it. Lol
  7. An entertaining read. On a side note, lived on Fort McClelland in Alabama back in 1980 and did my share of destruction with various weapons.....mainly firing at old military Jeeps.
  8. I can relate to being a minority in electronical devices and there use in locating fish. But nothing wrong with relying on instinct and weather patterns to know when and where might be optimal. I'd continue on your current path and enjoy every moment your on the water. Strangely enough, the youth really have a grasp of technological advances......me ? I just have to keep casting.
  9. Positive thoughts.......you'll be setting a hook in no time.
  10. Spinning is always left but baitcasters are either hand, have lefts and rights on boat.
  11. I started completely over, all tackle, rods and reels and a boat..........in very unappealing fashion. Garage fire from frayed extension cord 7 yrs ago left behind only ashes. Yes, I can laugh about it now.
  12. I asked that same question on here a while back. One of the local lakes I've fished with good success was lowered to do ramp and dock work. Never got a single bite that day so suspect it has an effect. Always search for excuses when I get skunked......yep, low water. Lol
  13. I am retired and can't think of a better way to spend it than being on the water. 4-5 days a week is plenty and can be taxing at that, fishing all day ain't easy. Lol Fishing is very rewarding and enjoyable but shouldn't be the endorphin that produces personal happiness but rather an event that brings joy.
  14. Wife and I have been RVing for over 30 years and we always stay at campgrounds on a lake. She loves hanging around camp reading while I'm on the water fishing. Occasionally I'll pull her on a small raft behind the boat, I'm still fishing while she relaxes. At home she is a very driven business woman and workaholic.......while I'm off fishing somewhere. Lol Harmony.
  15. We call it Shenandoah crossing resort but same lake. Yes, fishing is better than Anna. Lol Anna was my favorite lake to fish in early 80's but pressure and development changed that.
  16. I did use long leaders before " 20ft" and for the reason you mentioned, re-tieing. Never felt like I was compromising the braid either. Was watching a video of a well known pro fisherman who used shorter leaders to eliminate knot contact......tried it and been doing so ever since.
  17. Something I've learned and you can experiment for yourself. Whenever your leader knot is in the spool, you'll feel it hit the guides. BUT a shorter leader where the knot remains outside the spool, you won't feel anything, longer casts. Luckily " usually " when I have to break off, it happens at the hook and not at the Alberto........braid to Flouro here.
  18. 10lb average is ridiculous.
  19. I actually went through quite a slump after I allowed myself to be bombarded by info overload, my fault. Wanted to try a new technique everytime I hit the water instead of relying on years of experience and instinct. Lots of good came out of it though as I've learned finesse fishing which has become a staple on my boat. It's best to eat an elephant one bite at a time.
  20. I remember fishing a non pressured farm pond late in the evening with a Jitterbug and had a huge bass blowing up on it 8-10 times on 1 cast without hooking it.......that's a terrible ratio.
  21. I'm not a big fan of fishing in " Chocolate milk " but fish still eat. Double colorado blade black spinnerbait would be my first choice......then maybe go home.
  22. Oh wow, I'm pretty much a minority here. I and my entire family have been around beer drinking , whiskey, Scotch you name it, my entire life.....even family owned breweries. Drinking is a part of every function or get together whether it be a Christmas party, cook out, camping on the river or a wedding. No pride here, I'll drink anything and often.......blame the heritage. Lol
  23. I prefer bright nights and top water......caught my biggest on Buzzbaits , Jitterbugs and whopper ploppers. When the sun goes down, I'm usually indulgent of spirits, can be quite comical on a boat but fun nonetheless.
  24. Try turning it sideways on the cast.
  25. Does a floating Jerk bait count as top water ? SM harrass it here in the rivers, bone no doubt.
