  1. Something else that may hinder casting distance is having your leader to long. I try to avoid letting the leader knot from entering the reel or otherwise you'll hear that ticking sound of knot making contact with the guides. I keep it simple and make my leaders the length of the rod.
  2. Swim jigs and keitech easy shiner have done well in the minimal grass lakes I fish.
  3. Congrats 👏 Super nice Smallie
  4. Lol, but we're talking about HOURS on the water. 7 hrs = 3lbs per hour 😂
  5. All near death experiences came in my youth and involved heavy alcohol use. Most memorable and not something I'm proud of. My girlfriend " wife for 38 years now " had a red Mustang and was at a big party in our small town. Left drunk and totalled her car coming off the mountain, ran off the road into a large Oak tree, buckled the entire car and smashed the windshield. Bought her a Toyota Celica to replace her mustang and ended up totalling that car while heavily intoxicated colliding into an RV. There's more instances before I finally grew up but I'll refrain.
  6. We have many here and they are definitely bass attractors. Spinnerbait 1st and wacky finesse worms on 1/16 head with weed guard on the outer edges. I don't let my bait penetrate the center of all that art work.
  7. 🎵 Some days are diamonds some days are stone 🎵 -John Denver. Fun and enjoyable - I'm a 10 Hours on the water - I'm a 10 Giant bass ? Well my total weight for the day usually exceeds 20 lbs 😀
  8. Got on the water at daylight and the fish were hitting a top water Jerkbait. Caught a mixed bag of smallmouth, largemouth, Crappie and my very first Walleye caught on a gravel dog. Enjoyable day.
  9. For years I took 2 rods and caught fish now there lies 14 in the rod locker 😳. I only own 1 heavy for frogs, medium sees most of the action with braid but I'm throwing a lot of finesse in clear water.
  10. The only time mine makes a clicking sound is when it's folded on the bow and I hit the switch 😳. I would see what it does in the water but I have 3 trolling motors in the garage that makes no sound when spinning the prop.
  11. Only in the cold months do I pay attention to east facing banks. But love shaded banks during afternoon sunlight in the clear water I fish.
  12. Wow, I've seen a lot at 63 but never that.
  13. Update: The bodies were discovered at 6:30 pm Eastern. Thanks for the outstanding responses. They weren't wearing PFD'S 😔
  14. Not trying to be insensitive with the topic, feel bad for the family and and friends of the 2 men that capsized and drowned, very sad. My question ❓ is would you fish a 2100 acre lake knowing that bodies are below the surface somewhere. Myself and my fishing partner were scheduled to fish this lake tomorrow and I simply can't, my mind would be on the victims all day. It's a very deep lake and very remote.
  15. I have a 17-1/2 ft Lowe and 24v 80lb thrust. Wife and I often camp on electric only lakes and can run all week on a charge. It's the starting battery that needs charged, running 2 Garmins.
  16. Just bought a Dobyns Sierra after I snapped an expensive formidable rod in half........ actually like the Dobyns better. The Sierra takes full advantage of the rod length and gradually loads up......me likes.
  17. Super flukes were a problem for me for years getting a good hook set. Nose hooked greatly increased the ratio as did the Gamakatsu superline 3.0 screw lock. Will never throw a fluke any other way.
  18. Surprisingly never done it. About 20 years ago my buddy had a big smallmouth flop between his legs and buried a treble on each leg " Jerkbait " ........quite the site. I had to yank the hooks completely through and snip the barbs. It wasn't a pleasant experience playing surgeon between my buddies legs 😳 But he's still alive today.
  19. @gimruis My Border Collie loves the boat but can only take him when the wife and I are just cruising the lake. Fishing with him is a nightmare especially top water......he dives in after it. 😔
  20. Seen it on several occasions on my boat, not fun. We pulled the barb threw and cut it .
  21. My wife's panfish 2000 reel has 6lb Sunline Syper, no problem. The coil spring comes into play with heavier fluorocarbon line on shallow reels..... nightmare.
  22. I'm in VA, your good until midnight then you'll get locked up, tarred and feathered.
  23. Ha Ha , the wife and I will be in Maine for 2 weeks in July, Bar Harbor......we shall see 😀
  24. Wife and I camped again on a small 19 acre lake that was beyond clear, 20 ft visibility. Bluebird skies so every fish was caught early on Jackall flickShake GPC.
  25. First time experiencing them and they have a significant impact. We live deep in the mountains in western Virginia and our property joins National forest. It looks like January here, trees stripped clean and millions of them crawling on the house. And get this ! Actually had to put the truck in 4wd to come up the driveway, was spinning in catapilar juice. I've pressure washed the house several times already. I've heard stories about them but never knew they could wipe out an entire mountain. Anyone ever experience these critters ?
