  1. I'm guessing your using braid, it happens.
  2. Seems like a plethora of knot threads lately.......wait, this is a fishing forum.
  3. I can really relate to this as I remember when fishing was all about eating and if you wanted to catch fish you used crayfish, mad Tom's and minnows.......the picnic table was always full of scales.
  4. " blizzard " " dumped " and end result was 1/4" of snow. Lol
  5. That's a serious equipment upgrade. I'd be anxious to try it out so I vote....take Friday off and get on the water.
  6. I believe T-rig would be the first inductee into the fishing HOF out voting the spinnerbait. Lol
  7. Yep, looks like my yo-zuri with is 2 trebles. Similar.
  8. I've had several 5.3L over the years, definitely a flagship engine for GM. We use to drag race on the weekends back in the 70's in our little town for entertainment and can tell that with a stock engine " ok maybe headers " , a 350 was hard to beat in the quarter for a small block......and they held up. Another super good engine for durability but lacked performance was the inline 4.0, still have one. My latest truck has the 5.7 Hemi but can't say I like it better than my 5.3's. Oh, my 1970 Nova with a 307 was very under performing. I actually got beat in the quarter by a farm use truck, seriously. This thread brings back a lot of memories.
  9. I feel the same way with the exception of Jerkbaits.
  10. I don't think I've ever casted with my left hand, I'm right handed. Always 2 handed cast with a baitcaster and 1 hand with spinning but can retrieve either. I'm either no good or don't like back handing casting gear.
  11. Been cutting quite a bit of firewood, up to 15 cords now, bought another Echo. Playing a lot of cards with the wife in the evening, couple shots of tequila also. Watch fishing videos on YouTube. I'm either home or fishing, that's really it.
  12. Another trick that was told to me which I've used on 3 - 4 day camping trips is to freeze water balloons. Couple of frozen chunks the size of softballs will still be there after 4 days.
  13. Research RX bass baits, possible affiliation to confuse the tax collectors.....problem solved.
  14. Funny you mention this. My parents ran a tropical fish store back in the late 60's, when it was a craze. They used a solution of Hydrogen peroxide for transport.
  15. Good idea ?
  16. This was the wife's catch of the day.
  17. That is truly remarkable work and such beautiful fish. 7lbs is a lot of smallmouth.
  18. Does the whopper plopper come stock with split ring, have a couple but don't throw them much. I prefer direct tie to about everything but that surely doesn't mean everyone does. Lol
  19. Had one of those crazy days today. Was watching radar this morning to get an idea when I could head out to my local lake as it was raining. Got to the ramp at 12:45 this afternoon, had boat in the water when my phone rang.....the wife. She said she bought a hutch and needed the truck and I replied " I'm fishing ". She's A type personality and said " you can fish anytime, come pick up this hutch " so I said give me 1 hr. I had the lake to myself and it was overcast, lake was like glass so headed up in cove close to ramp and on 3rd cast I get big hit on Jerkbait. I knew instantly this was my best fish of 2020. Weighed 5.4 including plastic fish gripper so reach into utility/ lunch bag for my phone to get pic......ahhh left it on center console after wife called. I'm 100 yards from truck so decided it's best not to stress this mama full of eggs so release her back to her bed. I troll back past the ramp and my truck for another cove and elected not to grab phone because I only had an hour to fish. Breeze blowing back into next cove so grab spinnerbait and BAM, oh wow, this one weighed 5.7. My best fish in 2020 up until this outing was 3.9. Had time for one more small cove. 2nd cast and big hit, drag working, MH rod bent and I said " no way ". This fish weighed 6.1 and I'm sitting in the boat laughing now. Get home, wife waiting on me and i tell her about how her phone call prevented me from sharing some awesome pics of beautiful fish. She laughed and started singing that song " nothing from nothing means nothing ", true story folks.
  20. Been fishing since the 70's and never heard of them but they certainly look enticing. I'd have no problem throwing them Texas.
  21. If you went up and above your means to purchase and are afraid to use it, that's one thing. But with any piece of equipment, general care should be taken. I try not to " bang " up my fishing equipment and expect many years of use out of them. Enjoy your new rod & reel , be careful.
  22. Weightless Senko is a really good heavy cover bait but prefer wacky around docks. I don't consider this technique to be finesse and used on light tackle though. Like a Gamakatsu EWG 5/0 - 4/0 which requires a MH rod and fast retrieval casting reel to get them out of the rough, that's my preferred way to fish them. Oh, really like ZinkerZ.
  23. Been pulling RV's for 30 yrs and never a bearing failure by following your maintenance intervals......your good.
  24. Suspending Jerkbaits
  25. Amazon just recently had the Speed spool for $78, bought a couple and hard to beat. Imo They're back up over $100 now.
