  1. I know other anglers who fish that lake, it's actually a tributary that connects to a brackish river, at the beginning of it some people catch crabs, also can find eels and stripers chasing gizzard shad. big carp in there aswell
  2. 2019 was a great year for Me, I considered this year a redemption year for me in terms of fishing, I always fished for bass most of my life but stopped fishing in general in 2016, this year I have returned to this wonderful sport. It's great to be back! Hits: -Finally got back into bass fishing in April. - Learned a lot of new things about the sport from bass youtube channels such as Bassresource, Tacklejunky81, Realistic Fishing, and NDYakangler. also the Bass Resource forums. - Mastered Baitcasting - The Zman chatterbait and the texas rig win "Lure MVP" for me. (50+ bass were caught in total this year) - Finally caught a bass on a whopper plopper. - Caught my first bass on a normal spinnerbait. (always used inline spinners) - Learned more about how bass are and what they do in each season. - Caught my first smallmouth bass. - Organized my tackle better than previous years. - Won a local tournament after a 3 year hiatus from the sport. Misses: - Needed to slow down when the bite got tough. - Missed out on trying jigs in the summer. - Missed out on using braid when the bite was hot. - Failed to reach 100 bass by November. - Underestimated the NED Rig. - Never got to try out Crankbaits more. - Wasn't able to fish more locations.
  3. Can the fish even move around in that thick matted stuff? or they just suspend in it?
  4. ah that type of grass, yeah that stuff is a problem here in NJ at this one place I go to, can't throw anything in there and it almost takes up the entire lake during the summer months, nothing gets through it. This is the grass I'm talking about, it's from this once place in North Jersey, bass are in there but not a huge number of them, it's actually out of control and they finally started treating this body of water in September for it.
  5. I don't really know the difference but what would be a good wire jig hook for a medium heavy rod? Medium or heavy wire? I know light wire is obviously for finesse.
  6. When you say grass do you mean weed beds? I tried fishing them through weed beds earlier in the summer in a tournament and I got snagged up a lot.
  7. they work really well during the spring and summer months, I burn them through the water column and the reaction bite can be great if you found a school of fish, this time of year honestly I would start throwing spinner baits and cranks or fish the chatterbait slower. My last chatterbait fish I caught was in the beginning of October since then it's been spinners and jigs which has been catching fish and soon the NEDs will have to come out since the water temp is dropping.
  8. I might order some of these jigs, I tried making my own football jigs with the BOSS brand jigheads but the hook already bend on a fish the other day, the jig is the Sniper XL right?
  9. Also, for good bluegill color swim baits I would go with the sun gill color, it works in almost any water clarity like GP.
  10. Try chatterbaits! They work in almost any water clarity and I fish ponds here in NJ that have no shad! Only shiners and sunfish. Here are some brutes I managed to get this past summer with chatterbaits! Try the zman version in Green Pumpkin and Black and Blue. Works in almost any water clarity! is the trailer the rage swimmer 4 inch in electric shad? great clear water swimbait!
  11. I'm not the biggest fan of spinning gear like I used to be, would finesse jigs work on casting gear, a close friend of mine throws the war eagle brand finesse jigs on his 7'0 lews MH, but everyone else keeps advocating spinning tackle for them.
  12. Do you throw those jigs on lighter casting rods or spinning gear?
  13. Very interesting, never knew bass preferred crawdads without claws. I always thought they got excited and tended to bite more when the craw would get in the defensive position. These actually look pretty cool, reminds me of the zoom hawgs a bit, what size hooks do you throw on them?
  14. Hey BR, Gonna be ordering some new creatures/craws for texas rigs and finesse jig trailers. Since it's fall and the bite is starting to slow down a bit with the bass getting finicky what would be some good craws/creatures that have little to no tail/claw action? Tackle warehouse just simply has too many options and I can't choose, can you guys help a fellow angler out with some recommendations?
  15. I fish ponds here similar to you in New Jersey, yesterday me and my cousin wen't fishing at a local reservoir that was twice the size of my usual ponds. the air temperature at it's highest was only like 53, 4 hours and we didn't get anything, the water temperature there was reading 61, I tried jigging and finesse spinnerbaits and didn't get anything. this past Friday I went to a pond I frequently fish and managed to get 2 on a spinner bait and 3 more on jigs. it was about the same conditions except the air temperature was around 58. I think in the winter time and late fall it's probably better to fish ponds if you don't have a boat and can track them down easily.
  16. Has anyone tried getting in touch with Glenn or any of the other admins? maybe they can address the slow issues, I only go on here with my computer so I can't really speak for the mobile guys.
  17. I never understood people saying stuff about fish seeing thicker line, but at the same time why use lighter lb leaders?
  18. do the fish see it at all? i heard they see thicker fluoro.
  19. Hey BR, I've been using mono and braid on my two baitcaster setups (one for texas rigging and jigs) and the other for my big moving baits (spinners chatterbaits and swimbaits) for my braid setup I use 6lb leaders of fluoro, I plan on switching out these two combos to straight fluoro. what would be a good lb test to start out at? My jigging/Texas combo: Reel: Pflueger President XT, ratio: 7:3:1 Rod: Shimano Sellus 7'0 MH fast Moving baits combo: Reel Enigma ippon, ratio: 6:4:1 Rod: 13 Fishing Defy Black 7'3 MH fast
  20. why would jigging be difficult? I would insist it definitely is a slower style of fishing but the same can be said about texas rigging, most kids are very impatient with fishing in the beginning, that's honestly why a moving bait is better to start them off with IMO
  21. hahahaha I know this feeling.. what have you been throwing? Lol!
  22. Never had luck with a dropshot from the bank. It works better if you found a school out on a lake. The boat guys here swear by it.
  23. This topic I remember seeing back on one of the bassmaster classics back in the day. A guy was going around asking all the pros what style of fishing they would teach/recommend to a kid or new angler. Of course 90% said fishing a plastic worm because of the simplicity of it and how it works year round. I was surprised though because it seemed like none of them brought up any moving baits like spinners or cranks. If I was teaching a youngster or new angler to the sport I would definitely start at spinnerbait, it's probably easier then a texas rig, especially for the impatient kids. Also works pretty much year round. You're just casting and reeling back spinnerbaits. Another style of fishing i'd teach would definitely be wacky rigging. What about you guys? What would you as a bass angler teach a beginner?
  24. Every summer in august I go Fishing for Blues and Strippers down in Delaware and we fish the beach in the mornings, and one day I was in the surf casting a spook into the small waves and a Seagull picked it up and dropped it about 100 feet out into the middle of a blitz. Let's just say that I had a very productive day...
