  1. The same thing occurs with reels outside of shimano and daiwa. Anyone can fly to china and with enough capital have rods made for them. Depending on how much you invest determines the quality control, etc. Its like buying a car from the ground up -I want this blank, these components, this reel seat, etc. It sucks for the companies actually spending time and money to r&d this stuff, put it on the market and then a year later have knock offs competing against them. The upside is it creates competition and brings the prices down to put decent equipment into fishermen's hands. I highly doubt most of this stuff would be legal if made in the U.S.
  2. http://wackyworm.com/ They don't have things on their website- you have to call.
  3. My local shop wackybworm has them in 3", 4", 5" and 6". They come in any color you can imagine...
  4. I don't know what he did outside of fishing, but I bet he would make one hell of a used car salesman.
  5. Speaking of modern fishermen the most famous is probably Michael Hsiao or 1rod1reel from Maryland.
  6. The only one I know off the top of my head from Pennsylvania is Mike Iaconelli. Oh, and Joe Humphrey's...legendary fly fisherman.
  7. This all depends on the size of the Senko, does it not? Are we talking 3, 4, 5, 6 or 7" senkos? ?
  8. Looks like a Smithwick to me. I think it is a Rattlin Rogue Jr. Those are discontinued if it is...
  9. 3' deep sounds more like a creek to me. I would guess there has to be some holes that are deeper. If there isn't any in the immediate vicinity, there probably is within a few miles and that may be where the fish went.
  10. When buying Christmas items on Amazon I threw these in...I am excited to try some tungsten ned heads to see if there is much of a difference.
  11. It's not even a possibility. Too warm for the ice to be solid enough for ice fishing and too cold for open water fishing.
  12. Courtesy of @roadwarrior I got some nice stuff in the post today. No one ever has enough rage bugs. Merry Fishmas!
  13. I have seen those rods break a lot. I have never personally had one but a younger guy I fish with has a few that are missing the eye inserts because they fall out. Honestly I would stay away from them.
  14. It seems Santa bought a Tatula SV TW in a 7.1:1 gear ratio.
  15. Got mine out today - I had to wait for the local shop to be open. They are only open Friday and Saturday this time of year and when I stopped last Friday they had something come up and weren't there. Luckily it will still arrive before Christmas. I also had a small note but sealed the box up before putting it in...oh well.
  16. I can hook you up with a sure fire wacky senko. The key is going smaller. ? I don't like White lures. It probably comes from fishing so many bodies of water that shad are not the predominant forage. I always have confidence in bluegill and perch colors, but whites freaks me out.
  17. We always used them trolling for walleye and occasionally hooked a smallie.
  18. Maybe the old chopstick or the chugger? It's a vintage lure that looks like a lot of other poppers. The hula popper makes a deep noise but that's arbogast. This is currently on ebay: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Lot-of-3-Cotton-Cordell-Poppers-2-Great-fishing-colors-Classic-Vintage-lures/202849278496?epid=1900587554&hash=item2f3ac25a20:g:JBIAAOSwAVldK9bZ
  19. Be warned...there is no dabbling. Get a few huds, some s wavers and gantarels...the next thing you know you are looking at 200 dollar custom swimbaits.
  20. I have done this on worms before but I used a threading needle with thin braid through the worm and tied it to the hook. That way when the worm does rip off you don't lose your components.
  21. I remember the days when I could easily go out with 2 rods and feel I had the world by the short hairs. Now I have a hard time whittling it down to 5 in my yak. I usually end up taking 4 casting, 1 spinning. Casting rods: 7'6"-7'9" - H 7'2"- MH 7'- M 6'9"- M Spinning rod: 7' -ML The brands are minor detail and more so user preference. I wouldn't get hung up on the brand and use what you feel is best. As far as my list goes, the only thing I would swap out would be one of the rods for an XH if I am fishing with big swimbaits or some other technique specific bait.
  22. As long as you have 4 inches of ice, it's good. In a week you can easily get there.
  23. Everyone's going to ask - what price range are you looking to stay within?
  24. I have found many semkos in stocked trout. Each time they are completely stuck and there was no hope of the fish passing it.
