  1. I stay away from Fluoro due to weak knots. With line that thin you dont have any room for error. I found fireline in 8# or gliss in 10# gave the best performance on a BFS setup.
  2. Top water? Man, that was so long ago, I don't remember... lol. For the ones you asked about I usually use 30 or 40 lb braid to a 10# or 12# mono leader.
  3. Of anyone I have ever watched, he is the most infuriating. He attacks people in the comments and he is truly terrible at using baitcasters. He obviously has very little understanding of how reels work.
  4. Kalins or Zman
  5. I was watching a video with jerkbaits, and in it, they stated people had problems with Vision 110's breaking. Has anyone had this problem? I have been fishing a few of them pretty hard (I am by no means easy on them) and haven't had any break. I also have not tried the provoke jerkbait - what are yinz thoughts on them - Good, bad, indifferent? The wraps are an interesting concept but I can't see that not affecting the baits buoyancy. Fun story - I would also like to add that yesterday I had my first experience getting a treble stuck in me. I was low on replacement hooks and changed the back one and the front ones on a Vision 110+2 and left the stock one in the middle. Anyway, I caught a small bass and the bait caught in my backpack as I was unhooking the bass on my kayak...as I was pulling the hook out of the backpack, I unfortunately hooked my thumb on the onky katsuage hook on the bait, past the barb. So I clipped the hook off by the split ring and then was able to poke the hook point out another part of my thumb and clip it off at the barb so I could back it out. I would say the stock hooks are really sharp hooks. It didn't hurt at all but that sucked and I don't want a repeat of this. Lol
  6. What? https://japanlureshop.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=+Bantam. 270 dollars... https://japanlureshop.com/daiwa-20-tatula-sv-tw.html. 184 dollars...
  7. The Bantam MGL also costs twice as much as a Daiwa SV 103
  8. I have a Laser Mg Speed Spool, a super Duty Wide Speed Spool, An American Hero combo and a Mach Crush. They are OK but for me if I tey and get everything out of it I get fluffing every other cast and the performance just isnt there for me. I pick up any one of my Daiwas and I easily pick up 20 yards. It could be the fact I am used to the Daiwas since I have used them for 25 years because I know others like them. I have seen a lot of big catfish caught in them too. But I have also seen a lot break off - the drag on them is terrible and the line is grinding on a pin that keeps the line rolling... I wouldnt trust it for any significant fishing
  9. I have owned: Daiwa - absolutely my favorite brand and has never let me down. Pflueger- their spinning reels are ok but never impressed me. Lews - I have 4 and they are a big let down. Abu Garcia - once a long time ago they were great I hear...my experiences have been underwhelming. Syongyang or something- it was 20 bucks and about what one would expect. KastKing - I have 3 and they just dont feel refined and failed on me more than once. Mitchell - decent spinning reels for cheap. Zebco - haha. Great for kids catching gills. Cardinal- Worked for me when I was a kid but now Abu owns them so I imagine they are junk. I have never tried or owned a Shimano. I dont know why, but Daiwa has always been good to me so I never saw a reason to try them as they were never readily available to me. And I have never seen anyone with a Shimano that showed me any reason they outperform a Daiwa. Oh, I also have a GH100 I got off Ali Express...uggh, is all I have to say.
  10. I started fishing with Zebcos in the 80's as a kid. We had spinning reels but I absolutely hated them... I decided I wanted a better reel to go on my pistol grip ugly stick....so at 15 years old we went to K- Mart and I bought a reel that looked like a fancier zebco, or so I thought. I got a daiwa baitcaster...a Daiwa Triforce I believe. I spooled it up with spiderwire and my dad told me I was an idiot for spending that much on line... There was a learning curve to using it but I didnt have any trouble getting it to work. I never looked back and will always try to use a baitcaster whenever possible....still hate spinning gear.
  11. I fish it on light line but I use 20lb braid to an 8 lb leader with a baitcaster... I cant imagine jerking with a spinning reel.
  12. Its really made.for a slow crawl. What ratio/IPT reel are you using?
  13. Top water fishing is a ways off for me. Ned Rig Spinnerbait - willow/colorado tandem with silver willow and gold Colorado blades in bluegill color Jerkbaits - Multiple sizes in perch colorations S Waver 200 Lipless Cranks
  14. The chatterbait outperforms a spinnerbait at night - especially when it comes to bite/hookup ratio.
  15. Yes, the original reason I got these hooks is because I broke one of the original hooks after hooking my backpack. These were very close in size so I tried them out - they worked well.
  16. 6.3:1 on both the 300 HD's. My 400 HD is 8.1:1. The Winns are ok but I mostly use them for throwing 1-2oz swimbaits, chatterbaits and large spinnerbaits. They are not quite as refined as the HD's IMO. I do want to get one of the updated ones though...probably this fall.
  17. I have 5 Lexa's - 2, 300 Winns; 2, 300 HD's and 1 400 HD. I am very happy with all of them and haven't had any problems with them. I use my 300 Lexas for throwing Double Cowgirls and Super Cowgirls for hours on end. Never have any issues.
  18. I replace them with Daichii light wire trebles and use Daichii light wire red hooks on the front.
  19. One technique I have used for years is to cast onto the other shore if you can and then bring it into the water. This is a dynamite technique with spinnerbaits...
  20. Black Baits G2 Shellcracker and a Bull Gill
  21. I think you should specify what you mean by small pond...I think small pond is something a half acre or less.
  22. I miss those days - I need to move out of these overpressured waters and back to the sticks. The idea of 6 pound bass is long since gone...I have an orgasm over 2 pound bass.
  23. I am thinking of ponds that I can stand at any location and cast over the other bank. I have a few.ponds I take my kids to that the biggest fish isnt even a pound. I dont think I am throwing my 6 oz swimbaits there... It all depends on the size and depth of the pond...
  24. Depends. But normally throw the same things and downsize a lot. In smaller bodies of water your first couple casts are the most important and it is even more important that you make your casts a good 20 yards from the shoreline when possible.
  25. Rage lizards do great in the spring
