  1. One time 25ish years ago I was fishing a spinnerbait on a 2pc rod. I hooked a fish and as I was fighting it, the top section came loose and went shooting towards the fish. The line broke. I lost my fish and the top of my rod. That was the last 2 piece I have ever owned.
  2. Do they sell these at bass pro?
  3. I have started using this braid for most things that require heavy line. It is some awesome stuff and I run it on all my jig rods and swimbait rods. I run braid to leader on most things except punching I go straight braid.
  4. You can get generic tails to replace them from sites like backwateroutfitting.com Also, abs baits helicopter but if you get resin ones they cast significantly better.
  5. I am pretty good at skipping and I will say all you can do is practice. It's all about having memory in where you release the bait and at the proper angle. Honestly I can skip the best with my 1/2 oz to 1 oz jigs using a 7'6" Heavy rod paired with a tatula sv. I have a heavy 6'9" skipping rod but for me the longer 7'6" rod allows me to get parallel to the water easier and I can skip that baby like no one's business. When skipping spinner baits and chatterbaits I usually just use my 7'3" mh. I don't change any if the settings on my reel, just train that thumb and practice.
  6. Depends on the brand and what you are doing. If you go with maxquatro or a thinner braid, 65. There are so many braids now from 4 carrier all the way up to 16 carrier. Everyone has a preference but in a traditional 8 carrier I would stick with 50#.
  7. I honestly believe bait scent does 2 things: 1. covers up our scent and other things that would steer them clear when finicky. 2. When they do bite they hold on a little bit longer making it easier to get a hookset. I use procure now. On everything.
  8. They do make them but only sell them at shows I guess. They were at the NE Expo this past weekend.
  9. I have tried to like glass-type rods for chatterbaits and just can't get used to it. I much prefer an xf graphite rod with direct feedback.
  10. Certain places one bank fishes and are casting in tight quarters. Walking through brush and trees it is easier to navigate. Othere than that I have nothing. The shortest rods I use are 6'9" for jerkbaits and an old spinnerbait pistolgrip - the rest are all at least 7'.
  11. This is going to be a fun bait. Now to get a 10/0 beast shake head?
  12. This one is going to hose me
  13. BTW, the rod is a Leviathan Omega Swimbait rod rated for 2-6oz.
  14. Finally got my rod to pair with the Ryoga I got. Really excited to try this puppy out!
  15. I didn't post pictures because he would really like a stock replacement. A modern handle would not work due to this design. The handle goes on the outside of the nut.
  16. Green: BGC 7" Glider Black Talon AFL Glider Toxic Baits Wad3 Jackhammer Jig Brown: BGC 7" Glider I Slide 135b Vision 110's Lucky Craft Square Bills Jig You forgot the lures...
  17. This handle is proving to be a tough one to acquire.
  18. After reading the spook thread it made me think of a funny thing that happened to me a few summers ago. My community has a bunch of bodies of water and I will drive around and hit a bunch of areas and sometimes run into people. I usually take it upon myself to help kids out so they can catch fish and learn something. I frequently hand out lures and advice and it makes fishing more rewarding. Well there was a kid and an old gentleman sitting in a chair fishing. He was casting out with his spinning rod upside down and just straight reeling in a popper: no rod twitches just steady reeling. The kid was just fishing a bobber and worms. I asked the man how he was doing and he said he caught a few at the other spot across the lake but hadn't caught anything here yet. Insert me explaining that usually a popper is fished differently. I explained the ways I typically fish it and told him he may have better luck. He proceeded to tell me he has been fishing longer than I have been alive and he didn't need my help from someone fishing for sharks(I was tjrpwing a large wake bait at the time). Darn it if on the next cast did he not catch a 4# bass. When he picked the bass up he held it up and said "I bet you have never caught one this big with your fancy schmancy gear." My ego was rightfully knocked down a few pegs and I told him nice fish, got in my var and went home. Anyway, that got me thinking that there are more than a few ways to skin a cat - I should be slower to judge how YOU fish a lure. Are there any lures you don't fish traditionally with success? P.S. I am still not advocating for fishing a popper as such and definitely not supporting upside down spinning reels!
  19. The Rapala creature baits are pretty good. I got to try them out last summer when I got a few before release. Did well on a free rig.
  20. I have a 10:1 reel mostly for buzzbaits... Of the baitcasters I fish frequently I have the following: 5.x:1 - 4 6.x:1 - 8 7.x:1 - 14 8.x:1 - 4 10.x:1 - 1
  21. Weird response man - you initially asked if it was best on Casting or Spinning, opining that it would best suited as a finesse tactic but then claiming you were open to fishing it on casting gear. Then a video on how to fish it is presented and you discount it and claim your opinion as fact. Jeez. I fish the free rig on a baitcaster since it ends up being over 1/2 oz rigged. But you do you.
  22. Put them on a rod and see how they feel to you. This is the best advice I have ever been given to see your preference. Since they are close to the same reel, this would be the deciding factor for me.
  23. Alphas, especially the new ones are long because of the T-Wing. That mechanism forces the reel to be a bit longer
  24. The Daiwa Tatula rods clock in right around $150 and are very nice.
  25. Nice review. That price tag is what gets me. My limit is usually in the 200-250 range.
